Another scheduled mini-post. Things should get back to normal semi-soonish. Thanks for your kind comments despite my absence. They're so appreciated. I'll be around to visit as soon as time permits. Here are a few more photos from a previous visit to the cottage.
It was a perfectly beautiful sunny day and Frank and I were about to go out fishing. We looked to our right from where we stood on the dock and wondered if the gray skies were just passing through or if those clouds were building up.
A few minutes later we had our answer. We had enough time to empty the boat of everything which wasn't waterproof and head into the cottage to wait it out.
This photo wasn't in taken in black and white but the weather seemed to turn everything into monochrome. The storm lasted only a few minutes and the sun shone shortly afterward. No damage done. This was not the worst storm we had while up at the cottage. I'll write about that one another time.

The sky looked almost solid in the second picture. Quite a scary thing to be out in.

Nuts in May
i can feel the energy of that sky through your pictures...storms are entrancing to me...
Your images covey a true feeling of a storm process. Beautifully atmospheric.
Enjoy the last days at the cottage dear friend;)

What a beautiful place to relax and unwind. And your storm pics are amazing. That sky...wow!!

Wow. Beauty in the weather.
There's something very involving and fascinating about an approaching storm ..
Love the B&W effect on the bottom pic.
Excellent shots, Hilary - made me shiver from the cool dampness!
Oooh, thanks for taking us along with you - I could almost smell the singed ozone from those photo's. It is still a beautiful spot, regardless of the elements.
just...WOW!
As always, amazing photo's! I love storms(as long as they aren't harming anyone or anything) and these photo's are wonderful at capturing it. Happy Sunday to you and yours.:)
amazing how the lack of light can make a photo lose its color.
The power of nature...I remember a quote I heard once, I guess I better say pharphrase...'one moment the weather is softly nursing you and the next moment it may try to kill you.' I think this is especially true if you're in a boat.
Storms at once fascinate and scare me. I like this one from the comfort of my sunny kitchen.
excellent weather photos.
I also like your 'semi-soonish' return.
I remember those summer Canadian stoms that were so hard to predict and could be so devastating. I should blog about our adventure out by Eagle Lake years ago. It was really frightening.
I love a storm like that! Beautiful light in that first shot!!
Wow, that really does look monochrome! I'm glad you weren't caught out in the boat far from shore. That storm does look like a doozie!
I don't know whether it was intentional or not, but I liked that you caught the finger pointing at the clouds in your first picture. I could almost hear the dialogue about whether it was safe to proceed with the fishing trip or whether it would be wise to wait. The storm clouds in the second picture were awesome.
I like a good storm but not when I'm ON the water. Inside by a fireplace is better.
Gorgeous pics, as always.

Lots of action in those pics! I love them.
Boy, can i relate to those "take you by surprise" lake storms! Once we got caught far from our dock in one. Very scary. Great captures!
Wonderful. It literally "rolled" right in on you! Glad it didn't last long, though, so you could get your fishing in ;)
Dramatic images there.
Have a great time. :)
GREAT photos. I especially like the second one. I find storms fascinating, even when slightly inconvenient. :)
Your pics are the next-best thing to being there. :)
That middle shot is fabulous with its play of light and dark. I love a good summer storm!
WOW! Just as well you weren't out on the lake when the storm struck! - Dave
It's absolutely lovely, Hilary. A true pleasure to behold. I hope you've been having a blissfully relaxing summer, judging by the scenery? That looks as if it might be the case, it's truly lovely there.
I remember all last winter, waiting, and waiting for spring to get here. I say, while the weather favors you? Enjoy the outdoors :-) There will be plenty of time to catch up on blogs, soon, when the snow falls again.
Until then, enjoy yourself :-)
Interesting how the storm strips the color and makes things look black and white.
Thanks everyone for stopping by and leaving such kind comments. I'm back in catch up mode again for a bit.. at least until my next time up at the cottage, which I hope will be soon. :)
Wow. Your usual excellent work is mostly close-up shots, or at least close to the subject shots. I don't recall seeing such vistas here before. And they're as swell as the other stuff. You're a gem, Hilary. Love it.
Amazing how fast the front moved in and turned your sunny day into a monochrome night. You captured wonderful contrasts. At least you were cozy in the cabin.
Oh my, I'm loving these photos! I told the carpenter that painted this garden room that I wanted the blue shade you see right before the clouds build together and it's about to storm.

Revealing photos. It is amazing how fast the weather can change.
I hope you enjoyed your time at the cottage.
Oh Hilary, that cottage looks like a little piece of heaven. Available for rent? :)

Amazing place and lovely photos. Not sure how I fell into your blog, but good to meet you.
I so envy you and Frank your peaceful cottage summers. Even your sudden rain storms. Enjoy them for as long as you can.
It is amazing how quickly things can change weather wise. Those are great pictures.
Hilary: Great capture of a fisherman's worst fear. A quick approaching storm front.

Love a good storm to clear the air. We have had an overly hot summer so we beg for storms to cool things down. Looks great in black and white!
Just beautiful! Reminded me of my own favorite lake.
I love the light in all of these, Hilary. Such magic. It's as if the sun is finding it's way ever so delicately yet directly to exactly what it wants.
I love the clouds over the lake. Very foreboding.
I like the colors and contrasts in all the photos. I think the second one is magnificent.
Looking forward to hearing about the bigger storm.
To all of you who stopped by to comment, I thank you immensely. You folks are the best! :)
Storms do make beautiful pictures! My son caught a photo of an evening lightning storm at home. I posted it in our blog. Cindy
Wonderful captures of your storm Hilary! Thanks for stopping by it's always a pleasure to have your company!
I love the sky right before a storm. So very lovely!
