True Colours Shining Through

It's time for another walk in the park. Care to join me? Of course you do - you know I have recently topped up that flask of spiked cider. Grab your jacket. It's just a bit nippy out there.

My neighbour's front yard sports some lovely mums in brilliant shades of orange.

The trees are just a bit past their peak, but they're just as lovely to see with a blanket of gold beneath them.

There are a number of bikers around the area. This one has left his bike and helmet, and climbed down the hill to explore.

Everywhere we look, there's an explosion of colour. Let's sit here for a bit, and have a sip or two before we move on.

A few remaining flowers attract a Viceroy butterfly - the first such insect I've seen since early September. I think that's worth celebrating with some more cider, don't you?

The sunlight illuminates this maple leaf. It's as if it has its own light source.

Thanks for joining me on this lovely autumn day. Let me know if you'd like to walk again soon. There's plenty more cider and I'm happy to share.

With the wind last night and this morning, much of that colour is a carpet now.
sigh.

Came here for the cider. Stayed for the beauty. Have a great day, my friend.

Strangely warm and rainy here. I wouldn't mind a return to sunny, dry, and crisp. Nice photos as always, once more with an uncanny resemblance to my little corner. I know exactly where that bicycle is: down by the DPW near the river, where the walking trail is.

I suppose I could spike my coffee. What harm would a little eye-opener do? On second thought, no. Morning drinking never bodes well for the rest of my day. Pity.

Maybe there'll be sun later. I hope so. To that end, let me suggest a little George Harrison: Blow Away. Suits my mood, anyway. We'll call it "cautiously optimistic."

That butterfly picture is magnificent. The colours of autumn are so vibrant. I love your photos.

Clear and vibrant color!
There's something a little exciting about seeing the framework of the trees revealed, isn't there?

I like the bike and helmet waiting for the rider to return from his walk. The cider sounds comforting in the cold morning. We get the U-Haul truck tomorrow and will pack the truck and head to the new place Saturday morning. Everything is right on schedule. Even my muscles are in strong shape.

What fine pictures, but what else would I expect over here at the Smitten Image? I also like the bike picture, and the butterfly the best, but they are all eye candy of the highest order.

beautiful....esp the butterfly and that golden leaf...i need a good walk...heading out in a few to do just that...and thanks for the cider...smiles.

All the photos are beautiful but that leaf is a perfect specimen. Thanks for the fantastic walk Hilary but I'll not ask to share your cidar as we're having low 80s here... ugh!

The photos are fabulous! And I had to laugh...as you go about nipping at your cider. Yet you kept your camera steady!! Good for you!

All beautiful but the 4th one down is my favorite.

Gorgeous! Thanks again for taking me on this walk with you and for sharing your cider with me. :) Seeing these make me miss the beautiful colors...most of our leaves were gone a few weeks ago and what was left of them surely must have flown to Canada or many states away with the winds we've been having...yesterday everything was covered in a few inches of snow and it was gone by last evening...I am bummed I didn't get a single picture of the white beauty.

Happy Thursday! XX

These are absolutely exquisite! We don't get fall color like that in Texas.

Great foliage, and a butterfly. Life is a dream.

Daryl said...

Its so beautiful .. we dont get that kind of color here in the city .. apparently the ground doesnt get cold enough to make the leaves turn ... or something like that

Linda at To Behold The Beauty said...

Our area didn't have its normal glorious display of fall colors this year, so that (not to mention the cider) makes walking with you through your Ontario colors even more special. We're going to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee next week. Hopefully, there will be some color left in the lower elevations there. But, color or not, the Smokies are beautiful.

Lovely, lovely, lovely! What a wonderful explosion of color. I so much enjoy my walks with you, Hilary. Thank you.

I had never heard of a Viceroy butterfly, I immediately assumed it was a Monarch, so I googled them both and read about their subtle differences.

Thanks for taking us along! I'm always available!

I think I could taste that cider, and the color is magnificent.

Always nice to join you on a walk, any place outdoors, any season. You truly capture the brilliance of how colors that we would never mix in decorating really do go together in nature.

Such loveliness! And I'm with CG - came for the cider, stayed for the beauty.

I'm honored you chose my post as one of your POTW. Truly honored. Thank you from the bottom of my amateur photo-taking heart.

More cider and another walk please!
Beautiful photos. I can almost hear the crunch of the leaves under our feet and smell that wonderful Fall smell.
Thanks for the great day Hilary.

Yep, Hilary, I'm coming. Pour me another cup. The yellow leaf is amazing, and I love the fall colors. Okay, tell me how you got that butterfly to pose--they always fly away before I can take a shot. :P

• True, Deb. It was quite the blustery day. Now the trees have their bare bones for Hallowe'en. :)

• Thanks kindly, Kate. Always a pleasure to see you drop by, no matter the reason. :)

• Cricket, we had a lovely warm spell here too for a few days. Sunny too. So interesting that your terrain and mine are so alike. Save the cider for the evening. You'll appreciate it more. Thanks always for the kind words and for the musical interlude. :)

• CJ, thanks very kindly. I'm glad you enjoyed them. :)

• June, so true. What I like about it is how much more visible the birds are. Thanks for the kind words. :)

• TechnoBabe, good luck on your move. I'm sure all will go smoothly. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• DJan, thank you so much. Your kind words are always so much appreciated. :)

• Thanks very much, Brian. I hope you enjoyed your for real walk. :)

• Jane, thanks so much for the kind words. So much appreciated. I have chilled cider for those warm nights too. Just help yourself. ;)

• SueAnn, thank you kindly. If I hadn't been sharing the cider, there's no telling how shaky my photos would have been. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks, Ellen. I'm glad you liked it. :)

• Lori, thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the walk, the cider and the colours. I can't believe you already have snow. I am so NOT envious of that. I'm glad you could experience the autumn shades again, if only through my photos. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Brenda, thank you very much. :)

• Welcome, Bob and thanks for the kind words. :)

• Daryl, thanks. I didn't think the colours would be any different in the city. I don't mind sharing though. :)

• Linda, thanks for joining me. I'm glad you enjoyed the walk and the cider. Enjoy your trip to Tennessee next week. I have no doubt you will. :)

• MPM, thanks kindly. :)

• Pat, thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm so glad that you joined me. :)

• Thank you kindly, Leah. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

• Sue, more cider coming up! Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you joined me. :)

• Karen, I'm pouring in anticipation of your arrival. Butterflies in autumn are much slower than those earlier in the season so they're much easier to photograph. That's my secret. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks, Gary. :)

• Pauline, that sounds like a fine idea. Thanks so much for your kind words. :)

• Christine, thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks for joining me, Betty. Always a pleasure. :)

Brilliant autumn photography Hilary. Your Viceroy butterfly looks just like one we call a Monarch. Is it the same but been demoted? - Dave

The wonderful colours of autumn make me giddy! Or is that just the cider? That butterfly shot is pure magic!

Tabor said...

a nice autumn you are having...with or without cider. Ours here is gorgeous as well because of our recent rains. We also have a few buckeye butterflies and few sulfur butterflies still hanging out.

steviewren said...

I love our walks in the park! We are just beginning to really see a lot of color here. It finally rained, we were in the middle of a drought before and it was still in the upper 80s most days...not exactly weather for turning leaves.

Dropped by for my dose of beauty and wasn't disappointed. Extra treat to have cider, too! Thanks, Hilary. :)

Thanks for the sweet note :), Hilary! I love the blue bike against the fall colors here.

I really like all the reds and oranges. I forgot my flask.

Friko said...

I've taken my flask along and the dog; I hope that was ok?
That maple leaf is wonderful. I love all of the photos. Autumn is particularly magical this year here too and we never stop to admire nature's abundant gems spread out before our eyes. I almost can't bear the thought that the display is on the wane, greys are creeping everywhere.

Thank you for putting me in your blog roll, Hilary, I've just noticed it. That must mean that you don't find my blog totally unpleasant. If that is true would you add yourself to my followers too, please? I'd like to show you off.

Mmm, that was nice Cider, thanks. The photos are wonderful and I have to admit I had to google Viceroy butterfly and learn the differences between it and the Monarch.

I always enjoy your walks, but I'm not a fan of cider ;)
You're very lucky to have such a beautiful park close to home.

The flowers that you call mums.... is that becasue they are popular mother's day flowers?

Enjoy your weekend.
best wishes

• Joanna, I'm glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Dave, I thought this was a Monach when I first saw it too but the markings weren't quite right so I looked it up. Thanks for the visit. :)

• LadyFi, it could be a bit of both. Thanks for the kind words. :)

• Tabor, it sure has been a lovely season. Nice to know you're enjoying yours as well. :)

• Steviewren, I'm glad you're beginning to see some colour in your area. Our summer was very warm and yet trees began changing earlier than usual this year. It's made for a long autumn which is not entirely over yet.. just way past its peak. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks for stopping by, KC. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. :)

• Thanks, Amy. I'm glad you came by. :)

• Larry, not to worry. I don't mind sharing. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Friko, pooches are always welcome. I'm glad you're enjoying this short-lived but beautiful season and I share your reluctance to see the gloom of winter settle in. I'm happy to have you on my roll of bloggers I enjoy. I've never used the follower gadget with anyone to date. I tend to do my reading on Google Reader and then click over to my blogs of choice from there. If I do decide to got the Followers route, I'll be sure to include yours. :)

• Reb, I had to Google them myself. I was sure it was a Monarch when I snapped the pic but realized it was different when I saw it enlarged. Glad you enjoyed the cider and photos. :)

• Maggie May, thanks kindly. I'm glad you stopped by. :)

• Maggie, you're welcome to have the unspiced cider if need be. I'd much rather you enjoy the images standing up! Thanks for the kind words. :)

• VM, thanks kindly. I'm glad you enjoyed them. :)

• Diane, I do too, but that's never a good idea around Benny. It gets him in manic mode. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Mami, thank you kindly. Much appreciated. :)

• Robyn, I'm sure I could find another potable for you, if you like. I believe that the "mums" are short for chrysanthemums. I'm not sure how popular they are for Mother's Day as that's in May (here in North America) and these tend to bloom in October. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Sandy, you're right about just how much richer the colours are when they're just past their peak. Plus they stand out more against the baring branches. Always happy to share with you, my friend. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Tammie, thank you kindly. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

• Anita, thanks for joining me. Your description is spot on. :)

• Gaelikaa, glad to hear it. Thanks for stopping by. :)

just so gorgeous. i'm surprised how many leaves seem to be left on the trees though especially since your much more north than i am and most of our trees are bare now.

Hilary said...

• Rain, no snow here yet but we're getting our first below freezing temps for overnight. I just pulled my plants in to protect them from frost. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thanks for joining me, Cheryl. Always a pleasure to have you along. :)

• Lime, a number of these photos were taken a couple of weeks back but we've held onto our leaves until quite recently. It's been windy over the last few days and that has done many of them in. That doesn't mean that I don't still have some photos from before that time. ;) Thanks for the visit. :)
