Farmers' Market

One day last month, we stopped in at a local farmers' market to buy some corn. They were rather disappointing compared to some of the other ears we've enjoyed at countryside stands before and since. All was not lost though. Fresh produce can be quite colourful and so I decided to snap a few photos.

This last one was taken at my son Jeffrey's house earlier in September. It was early evening and the sunlight fell across this one onion on his kitchen counter. It was still growing in his neighbours garden just the day before.

Hilary! Gorgeous shots! I adore Farmers Markets! Each time - I must confess - I head to the fresh dill where I soak up that scent. Crazy - I know - but it's joy to me! ;o)

Love everyone of these, but the tomatoes, with the little sprinkles of water is my favorite. And the onion...somehow it looks rather melancholy!

As usual, you take the everyday sights and make them magical!

the peppers are gorgeous but they don't look anything like my homegrown peppers which tend to be small and weirdly shaped. Great shots all.

I love farmers markets...you captured the viberant colors fabulously...did you buy any of these and cook anything with them? Happy Sunday to you and yours. XX

fall is definitely the best season for veggie pictures, the colours are so vibrant. And it's probably the best season for eating the veggies once the pictures have been taken!

Wow, who'd have thought veggies could look so good - like the colors of the peppers. Glad you like the uninvited guest story. "Blessing of the animals" this week.

Look! It's the haunted onion. WooooOOOOOooooo. It'll make you cry when it says boo.

I just sent you an email, so you already know I'm all goofy with exercise induced endorphins. So there is a reason I'm talking to the onion picture.

Hilary, those are fantastic shots. I can practically smell them, and I'm sure some free radical just turned up its toes and bought the farm at the up-close sight of all those antioxidants.

They're gorgeous. But it did take me a moment to realize that the plums were plums, and not GIGANTIC blueberries and was incredibly impressed with the Veruca Salt Sized Berries Canada produced!

But they're great plums. You'd think I'd recognize a plum easily enough at this stage, but no :-)

Your photos are so wonderful. The colors are so great. I just captured a photo of a plant in my kitchen with the sun shining on it. I had brought it in for the night so the frost would not destroy it.

• SD, I can understand your joy of fresh dill and could see myself doing pretty much the same. Just keep the cilantro far away from my nose! Thanks for stopping by. :)

• LadyFi, thanks very much. :)

• Thanks kindly, SueAnn. Much appreciated. :)

• Zuzana, thank you, my friend. Always happy to see you stop by. :)

• Thank you, Ethelmae. I'm glad you like the veggies and fruits. You're right about the onion.. have a scroll down to Daryl's comment. It cracked me up. :)

• Brian, thank you. The "blue berries" are actually plums - small ones. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thank you kindly, Friko. :)

• Tabor, I suppose it's possible but unlikely. They were taken in late August so I imagine they were fresh from the outdoor vine - but you never know. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Daryl, you totally made me laugh out loud with this. Thanks for that. :)

• Leah, thank you. I'm glad you like it. :)

• Thank you, Dianne. You're always so kind with your comments. :)

• Thank you, Gary. :)

• DJan, thank you so much. :)

• Ellen, they do look fairly impressive as peppers go. I've had some good luck with peppers in the past but never this good. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thank you, Lori. We ended up buying some corn (which wasn't very good) and something else which totally escapes my memory at the moment. It might have been something like bread or some other finished product. Thanks for the kind words. :)

• Shammie, you're so right about that. There's something about the harvest season that makes you want to consume those veggies RIGHT NOW! Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thanks, Deb. A salad sounds good to me too right now. :)

• SnappyDi, thanks kindly. Very much appreciated. :)

• Alane, I have no problem with you talking to the onion picture. What freaked me out was when it talked back, all enamoured with you. It has even offered you a ring. ;) Thanks so much for the kind words, my friend. I'm glad you got the blueberry/plum image all sorted out. :)

• Thank you, Larry. I read your comment last night and thought "Oh, thanks for the reminder" because we had a frost warning here too. I promptly forgot though and now I'm dreading going to take a look to see how they fared. Perhaps we were spared the worst of it. Thank for your kind words. :)

• Steviewren, that sound perfect to me. A bit of feta too, perhaps? :)

• Messymimi, me too, darn it! Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Maggie, thank you so kindly. :)

• Keith, thanks for the visit. :)

I adore farmer's markets. Love these shots, Hilary, but the one of the onion is particulary gorgeous, isn't it? I smiled at the quotes, especially the bean one!

Yes, vegetables and fruit can be quite colorful. I was at a farmers' market recently and noticed how colorful everything was.

Been very busy the last few weeks. I am teaching 8 classes and that is about 5 too many! I will try to get back to scroll through your blog. I always enjoy stopping by.

Take care.

I enjoy farmer's markets. I'd like to farm some day. Sooner than later, I hope.

Hilary said...

• Thanks, Reb. I'm glad you enjoyed. :)

• Kat, this was a very small market compared to many, set up in a parking lot with not more than about ten vendors but their produce was colourful and eye-catching. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Good to see you, Cloudia. :)

• Frank, maybe it's the black and orange effect. Or you've been puffing on something. ;)

• Thank you kindly, Pat. So good to see you. I wish the best of the season to you, too. :)

• Sandy, thank you. All was very appealing indeed, but not without high price tags. Yum, nonetheless. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Joanna, if you'd make the plum tart, I'd be over in an instant with a napkin tucked under my chin. Sounds delicious. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thank you, Shrinky. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics. That onion practically shone at me like a light source that day. It demanded its photo taken. It was ready for its close up! ;)

• Nice to see you, Russell. I'm glad you took some time from your demanding schedule to visit. It's always a pleasure to see you stop by. :)

• 25BAR, it would be quite the interesting life to be a farmer of any sort. I hope your dreams come true. :)

Hi Hilary -

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things. Lovely shots as always. Fresh wax beans - I've had the devil of a time finding those this year. I really like three-bean salad, and the canned ones are so mushy. I use 'em, but not without resentment.

I agree with Alane about the "haunted onion." Weird.

Perhaps there's no vegetable that will make people laugh, but I can think of some herbs that will do the job. Heh, heh.

• TSannie, thank you so much for that link. Her work is wonderful. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Cricket, good to see you. I love bean salad too though I can't say that I've ever tried the canned stuff. True about the onion. I think it has a Hallowe'en feel to it, like Frank said. Too funny about the herb. And Zappa fits right in with that. Thanks. :)

• Thanks, TechnoBabe. :)

• Maggie May, thanks kindly. I'm glad you enjoyed the pics. :)

• Clowncar, thanks very much. I'm happy you think so. :)

• Carolynn, me too. Care to join me in a big salad? :)
