Things That Spring Brings

I'm still in part time mode and I don't expect that to change in the near future. I'll visit blogs when I can, and continue with my regular posts and the Posts of the Week as time permits, but I won't be commenting with my usual degree of regularity throughout most of the upcoming warm spring and summer months. Thanks for understanding my sporadic visits.

Spring is such an incredible season. It brings sights, sounds and sensations all its own. Please join me, and I'll be happy to share some of my recent spring moments.

rainydaytulips
Beautiful spring tulips - a gift from a friend who came to dinner one evening. I was leaving for Frank's the next day, so I brought them with me.

tulip pinky
They brightened up his front window on a rainy day. This one with its solitary stray petal reminds me of a lady's hand, holding a teacup - pinky raised, whilst sipping delicately.

dont leave me
From the outside looking in, they somehow made Benny's sad "don't leave me" face even more forlorn.

red-winged blackbird
When the rain ended, we took a walk through the field along the creek. There were plenty of red-winged blackbirds still singing for a mate.

beaverevidence
Nature's finest architect was in the neighbouhood. The beaver is the official Canadian symbol and on this day, we saw many trees which had been gnawed down for dams or lodges. We never did see the critter despite the evidence of its presence.

flyonabottle2
After the walk, we settled on the back deck for drink. I had one of those girly drinks which goes down like a soda but has that mini-kick (more like a nudge) to it. This fly must have found it appealing too.

orange tulip2
At the end of the day, the setting sun cast a soft orange glow upon the tulips.

I hope you enjoyed checking out some of the spring sights with me.

Sporadic visits. I think I need to instill that in those who think my lake house has become a second home - for them.

(I might begin handing out a mop as they enter the door - my kids excluded in this rant, as they are always welcome and mop, as my mom is, and my...)

Enjoy your time. I'll appreciate the beauty of your photos as they come.

Benny's face is priceless (those are beautiful tulips), but I also love the blackbird. I've yet to see one this spring, and they are such beautiful birds! Happy wanderings--I'll look forward to whatever you choose to post, whenever you choose to do so!

Its so nice to get out and enjoy what little spring and summer we have here in Canada . Your right.
Loved your blog. The tree and the beavers work is wonderful.
Have a wonderful week coming up.

Oh, it's so hard to keep up with blogging this time of year with all the stuff to enjoy outdoors. Your photos are lovely, especially Benny's expression.

Wonderful shots... the tulips are so graceful. And that shot with Benny is so precious!

Going out and enjoying the Spring and Summer is what you should be doing. Go at it and enjoy!

Love the beaver pictures. There are many marshes where I live and there is one in particular where a beaver has chopped down more trees than not. The city crews have wrapped the rest in wire but she just keeps finding the ones that didn't get covered. (It is a big marsh!) I like our funny little rodent symbol. Such hard and industrious workers. :-)

Thanks for that - I could do with some images of Spring right now... It's way too chilly down my way just at the moment...

Oh, Benny peeking through the tuplips is so beautiful! Blogland always slows down a beat when the sun comes out, just as it should - enjoy the Summer!

Heh, heh. You reminded me a bit of a Dave Barry column about travel to Canada. All I remember is it was standard, travel guide format, with questions and answers like

Spelling of "center?" Incorrect.

Beavers on currency? Yes.

Here's an oldie for your listening pleasure. Suits the current weather and that forlorn dog: The Kingston Trio Early Morning Rain.

Fabulous shots! Love that redwinged blackbird!

I like the shot of the stump left by the beaver. Beavers are cetainly archetects and engineers, but to me they are artists. Each stump is a work of art. Just my humble opinion.

Steve Gravano said...

The tulip close-up's are beautiful. Is Benny sad or just wondering if they are edible?

There is something about tulips that always make me smile. The color in your are so beautiful.

There isn't anything you photograph that doesn't look great, even a fly. I'm consistently amazed when I come here.

I loved the shot of Benny - he is so sweet. The blackbird is beautiful.
I, too, find that visiting as much as I would like to is just not happening. I can't write, research, blog, and still visit - or I'm on the computer ALL of the time.

I hate flies. I GUESS they're a necessary evil, but really, you have to wonder, are they REALLY necessary?

Dianne said...

the way you captured the many facets of the tulips is wondrous

and Benny! I don't know that I could leave after seeing that face
I'd spend my days at home or I'd need to run for the car without looking back

than again Isadora cries when I put "outside" shoes on and I've gotten over it ;)

Ben's wistful look, the lone tulip, and the blackbird are my three faves among a fine batch. :)

A nice selection of spring flowers Hilary. I was very interested in the tree stump that the beaver left behind after cutting down the tree. I wonder if that could be troublesome for forests? - Dave

I'm very happy that the calendar tells me that it's SPRING in S Ontario but unfortunately the thermometer isn't co-operating at the moment. Cool and Damp, too many raindrops. Your tulips are lovely, and the shot of naughty Benny is great! I've been a bad blogger for about a month, just too many things going on here, things that i could blog about but I just haven't had time..... anyway I'm back now, and I hope to be staying in blog mode for a while!

Barbara said...

You can see I'm still in part-time mode myself. Beautiful tulips, beautiful photos and what a lovely day. Poor Benny, though!

LOVELY captures....made my afternoon bright(er)!

That Benny....he's just adorable, isn't he? Love the flowers. Who wouldn't love flowers especially those photos of yours.

You just take your time. I've been so lax about visiting, too. It must have something to do with spring fever. Go with the flow, right?
