A Seagull's Breakfast and Posts of the Week

gull searching
This seagull spies some breakfast in the water in front of the dock.

gull splashing
One unsuccessful attempt - he came up empty.

gull bagel
And we have a winner!

So, what was it that our gull was after?

bay gull brekkie
A discarded bagel. Here's another which he left behind for someone else.

Hmmm sea-gull and ba-gull. They have the same surname. Do you suppose they're related?

And now, without further delay, here are the Posts of the Week. The icon below is yours for the taking if if your blog post is named as a POTW.

Holary, you've captured a wonderful moment!
Great!

Amazing seagull pictures. Fancy leaving a bagel like that...... mind you, the edible kind of rubbish is better than polythene I suppose. Provides a breakfast for the birds.
Love your quip.

How that Gull got the treat from among the ducks and goose is a mystery.

Great shooting. You've got a mazing eye. You've shown us that skill again.

Your photography's as sharp as ever. I don't have quite the blog visiting time I used to, but will try and get around to a few. I'm letting my pet rock play with my blog a bit. The results are...uh..odd ;-)

what a great series of photos!

I guess seagulls can eat just about anything, too. Nice pictures, Hilary. And congratulations to the POTWs.

I'll be sure to check these out. As always, thanks for bringing these great blogs to our attention.

He may have come up empty that time, but i will bet not for long. Gulls eat just about anything and are adapting to moving inland and living on farms. Bold little buggers, at Disney World some of the outdoor eating areas have to have nets overhead to prevent them from dive bombing people and taking food right off of trays and plates.

Love your pun! and your pics.

As always, great choices.

I was guessing "doughnut", because that's the preferred detritus of choice for Boston gulls, but yours seem to have a slightly more refined palette.

Suldog said...

By the way, I clicked onto your top honoree and came up empty. You might want to check the link?

Thanks, Suldog and TexWisGirl for alerting me to the broken link. It's fixed now (I hope).

Thanks everyone, for the kind comments.

A bagel!! So funny! I bet he enjoyed it and I hope somebody else got the other one before it disintegrated. ;) Great shots!

Super job to catch this guy in the act of collecting breakfast. Sad that we throw stuff in our waterways that isn't supposed to be there.

Bob Bushell said...

Lovely shots Hilary.

sage said...

Good shots, but were you chumming the waters with bagels in hopes of catching a gull?

Gail Dixon said...

Great captures of the gull with the ba-gull! LOL

Thank you for selecting my caterpillar post for POTW! I was having a pretty sucky week on the new job with today a tad better. Then I came home to this prize. Maybe I won't quit after all. :)

Thank you Daniel, and thank you Hilary!

Hilary, your gull images are wonderful. You had perfect timing with these!

SandyCarlson said...

Wonderful photos, all. I was reading recently that seagulls can get very sick from eating human food because they don't have the enzymes in their stomachs to break the stuff down. But who can resist a bagel? Great photos, Hilary.

Barb said...

Great action shots but I'm thinking that I'm glad I don't have to get my breakfast that way!

A family tradition is always ordering extra bread to take to the gulls when along the ocean.

Thank you for Post of the Week, you know I always enjoy reading your selections.

I certainly think the two gulls are related. Bays and seas are in point of fact very closely related.

I love that second capture of the gull Hilary.

And thanks for the POW mention.

Stewart M said...

Hi there - that second picture is wonderful.

Partial to a breakfast bagel myself, but I'd rather toast them than soak them!

Cheers - Stewart M - Australia

PS: I sure my parrot was used to people telling him he was good looking.

Liz Mays said...

That is quite a large chunk he's made off with!
