Still Trippin' Out

Below are a few more photos from our early March trip to Campbelford. The first several shots were shown on the previous post.

When I went for a walk on the afternoon of our arrival, I headed for the bridge over the Trent river just a few minutes walk into town. Along the way I saw this sundog hiding behind the branches of a tree.

From the bridge, I could easily see our motel. The area with the wooden fence an the mature trees is where we stayed.

Here's a late afternoon view of the bridge from ground level...

And into the evening, we could see the bridge from our motel room balcony.

This is the cozy restaurant where we had our yummy dinner (and Shiraz!).

The cutlery was placed in an interesting way.

An old floppy hat, purse and gloves so that there's no mistaking this for the men's room.

Behind the ladies room door were numerous hats, hat boxes and antique items.

Back at our motel room we relaxed and watched some television. My favourite current situation comedy is The Office but the incredibly funny and tender new show, Modern Family has quickly become a very close second. What's your favourite sitcom?

While you think about it, here's another look at that wonderful sunrise as it appeared the following morning.

Talented artist Janet Donald Wright whose whimsical art was featured in my Felines, Feathers and Fins post earlier this month, now has her own blog. Janet is even crazier than Frank and I because she lives with not one, not two but three Jack Russell Terriers. Please head over to Instant Karma where you can welcome Janet to the blogosphere, and meet her wild little trio, Lucy, Maggie and Bob.

Looks like a lovely place to stay, some very nice photographs. I would have never known that was the men's room!

Views I have seen a thousand times and just took them for granted. You have an eye for beauty and it shows in your photos.
When I was fifteen I worked at that little motel. The owner was Kay Smith, one of the kindest people I have met. Thank you for sharing your trip to Campbellford and the fond memories you have brought back for me.

Some great shots there Hilary! Love the light on the water. I think I'll take a pass on the ladies' rest room, as creative as it may be!!

That restaurant is so cool. That is the type of place I am drawn to. I like the front porch with all the goodies all over. The hat and purse on the ladies room door is great! The knife and fork are friends. This is so different.

What a fun trip that must have been. Your pictures are great...love the hat a purse on the ladies' room door and the flatware shot! I'm heading over to Instant Karma right now for a visit.

How do you DO that, Hils?

The knife and fork. The door with the hat and purse.

Swoon!

Hilary,

More gorgeous photographs to dazzle us with. I can visit these places through you.

I just love the colors of the hat and purse. That would make a lovely top.

• Thanks, Steve. The men's room had a hat and tie, I believe but the outer door was ajar and I didn't want to sort of step inside to photograph it. ;)

• Karmacat, thanks kindly. I think it's cool that you used to work in the very motel where we stayed. It was a lovely and clean place and our stay was very enjoyable. I don't know if Kay continues to own it, but whomever does, is running it nicely. Thank so much for stopping by. :)

• Bonnie, thank you. If you'd had the wine and the coffee like I did, you wouldn't be so quick to pass on that ladies room! ;)

• Welcome, 25Bar. I'm sure at least SOME parts of Canada have changed considerably since you were here 12 years ago. I hope you enjoyed your visit here. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Amy, it sure is. Thanks for the visit. :)

• TechnoBabe, it was indeed a cool place. And the food was interesting and tasty. I'd say that the knife and fork appeared to be a little more intimate than just friends but what do I know? Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Cheryl, thanks kindly. We did enjoy our trip a lot. Thanks for clicking on over to Janet. I'm sure she'll appreciate the visit. As do I. And thanks for the kind words. :)

• Lime, thank you. The trip did in fact prove very relaxing and enjoyable. I'm glad that's reflected in the photos. Good to see you drop by. :)

• Sue, it was such a nice place to stay. I could have spent another day or two exploring the area, I'm sure but we had other things to do which were just as enjoyable. The restaurant was very cozy. I was quite pleased with whole trip. Thanks so much for your always-kind words. :)

• SueAnn, thank so much for the warm comments. I'm glad you enjoyed it and that you could join us virtually. :)

• Janine, thanks very kindly. I did join Redbubble at some point.. but that's as far as I got. :] Maybe I'll look into it further sometime. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Herrad, thanks very much for the kind words. Much appreciated. I hope you have a good week too. :)

• SD, thank you. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. :)

• Thanks, Frank. I enjoy revisiting every time I look at the photos or talk about it with you. Especially that. :)

• Dianne, I thought I was a little over the line by just taking a photograph in there. So now I know that if we're ever out to a meal together, and you head to the washroom, I must remember to excuse myself along with you. There's no telling what mischief is to be had. :)

• E, thanks for the kind words and for joining me on this trip. The bed was very comfy. It was a really nice place to stay. :)

• Thanks, Karen. I believe the men's room had a hat and tie. If I'm ever back there, I'll snap a shot of it too. :)

• Sandy, thanks. I quite enjoyed that visit - hence the two blog posts about it. Thanks for your always-kind words. :)

• Maggie, I'm glad this place charmed you as it did me. We got very lucky when we selected this area. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Pat, thanks very much. Always a pleasure to have you along for the visit. Thanks for the kind words. :)

• Thanks, Pauline. It does kind of have a painting-like look to it. Maybe I can mess with it in Photoshop. ;) Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Kate, thank you. I'm glad you like it. And we sure did have fun. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Alix, thanks but I didn't DO anything but lift a camera to my eye and press the button. The rest just sort of happened. Mind you don't fall into Lakeviewer with that swoon. ;)

• Lakeviewer, thanks for stopping by and watch out for Alix.. she's in swoon mode. :)

• Linda, thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. The hat and purse sure were colourful, particularly with those pink gloves draped over the purse. I couldn't resist that one. Thanks so much for the visit. :)

What a magical tour! The hotel looks sumptious. I like the new layout with the larger images Hilary, it does better justice to your photography. I haven't kept up with the comedies of recent years, but the Red Dwarf series, and Fawlty Towers, I never tire of watching.

I just loved the colours in those skies and the colours in that hat and bag.
I loved the look of the restaurant. Great pictures as always.

I love Campbellford. We bought my husband's Jeep there and we were up there just before Christmas for some warranty work. Visited the chocolate factory. A very dangerous place. It's one of those towns that I think would be nice to call home.

Cricket said...

Great pics. Though those ladies' room shots... looks as if they put, presumably, a toilet and sink at the back of my great-aunt's closet ;-)

Definitely reminds me of the trips my wife and I took, back when we were more free to do that. If we're ever in Ontario, I'll let you know.

One CD I usually packed for those trips was JT's Greatest. I always found Something In The Way She Moves appropriate for morning coffee, afternoon tea, evening wine, or a whiskey nightcap. Can't say that about too many songs.

Thanks for letting me live vicariously.

Fab photographs as usual... I especially love the sunrise/set ones, there is something about that fabulous golden colour that I love... I never normally make sunrises myself :)

Well, I'm sorry to say I haven't been visiting too many for awhile, but will try my best to pick up the speed. I love the new look of your blog.

Of course, I love all the pics you took on your little March getaway. I'm a sucker for antiques and older buildings.

My fave, old sitcom is "King of Queens". My husband and I sit and watch the reruns every nite. :D

Have a great week!

that hotel room looks so nice compared to so many! In the last photo the texture of the water dressed in light and the sky texture and light is quite wonderful.

Deb said...

I am such a fan of the Office it isn't funny. Although, I recently only began watching it via reruns and now I am so hooked!
I love photos of trees of any kind, any where, but hate that often modern technology interrupts my photos...i.e.., telephone wires!

Clowncar said...

nice new layout. and it lends the pics more room!

the knife and the fork appear to be spooning....

• Saz you would have had fun in there for sure. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Cabo, I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thank you, Leah. I'm pleased that you think so. :)

• Thanks kindly, LadyFi. Much appreciated. :)

• DS you would think that I track them but it seems to me that every time I've seen one (which isn't often), I tend to see another within the week. A time of year thing? Thanks kindly for the comment. :)

• Thank you, Zuzana. It was a great view and even better trip. Thanks for the visit, my friend. :)

• Thanks, Shrinky. I can't say that I've ever watched those particular Brit-coms but I remember one that I loved from long ago called A Doctor in the House and more recently Ricky Gervais' The Office and Extras - both excellent. Thanks always for your kind words. :)

• Maggie, the coulours stood right out to me too and called to be photographed. I'm glad you like them. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• NJ, it's cool that at a few of the commenters have actually been to Campbelford. It is a very welcoming place for sure. One man stopped to chat with us while I was taking a photo of the stained glass window. He told us all about the couple who was renovating and how "gentile" the town was. Another woman happened to be having dinner at the same restaurant after we had walked past one another outside the motel earlier, and so she started a short chat about how great the place was. It seems like a real community. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Cricket, I can just imagine your great-aunt's closet - or recall my own grandmother's for that matter. If you're ever in Ontario, please do let us know. :) James Taylor is another fine musical choice. I'm in the habit of locating your song of choice (if I can) and set it playing while I respond to comments. Thanks for that, and for your always-kind words. :)

• ED, thank you kindly. I don't usually find myself greeting sunrises either but this one just insisted. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Lulda, good to see you and thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. King of Queens makes me laugh too. Thanks for the visit. :)

• MPM, thank you. Yes, I enjoy that show too. :)

• Daryl, thanks very much. You're in love with Manny and I suspect that ToonMan is in love with Manny's mother. I love both of their son-in-laws, Phil the hilarious bumbler and Cameron the adorable gay guy. Each of those characters have made me cry laughing. It's a great show. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Tammie Lee, thanks so much for the kind words. They're very much appreciated. :)

• Deb, I love The Office - both the current, American version and the short-lived original British version with Ricky Gervais. Both are brilliantly funny. The wires are part of the landscape nowadays and sometimes actually adds to a photo but if you really dislike what it does to the subject, you could probably git rid of it with most photo editing applications. It's tedious but kind of fun sometimes. I rarely bother except on occasional portraits - usually by request on family pics. Thanks for stopping by.

• Thanks, Clowncar. I'm glad you like it. Ha! on the cutlery comment. You're such a cut-up! ;)

• Thanks, Messymimi. I'm glad to hear it. :)

• Baggie, I thought so too. Thanks for your kind comment. :)

• Cloudia, thank you kindly. Yes, I like all of those shows too. The Middle is one of those shows that I think has potential but fear it will fizzle and fade due to lack of interest. I hope I'm wrong. It's a sweet, real show. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thank you, Kerri for such kind words. Very much appreciated. :)

• Sandy, what a sweet thing to say. Thank you so much. :)

What a lovely place, and a refreshing break for the mind. Isn't it amazing how colorful the world is, even before the Spring has truly begun?

Hilary, I had reason to wish that I could conjure you up at a moment's notice this week. I had a flooring guy in to give me a quote on refinishing some existing hardwood floors (because if I wasn't wrangling with contractors as part of my daily life, I don't know what I'd do) ...and we were talking of the snowstorm that had hit the previous night. Where he lived, out towards the plains, he'd gotten that rare combination of intense snow with both lightning and thunder.

"I was up in the middle of the night, just staring out the windows...and every time the lightning flashed, the snow was pink and purple."

And that's when I wished I had a pocket Hilary to send forth, time traveling, to snowy woods to take a picture :-)

You're like the photography Genie :-)

I don't watch any sitcoms. I LOVE the Real Housewives. Only because they are so ridiculous it is hard to believe that real people can act like that : )

I went to college in Clarks Summit Pa which was ten minutes from Scranton. How cool is that?

The visit looks like it was so fun!

• Ethelmae, so good to see you. :) I'm glad to hear that you're doing better. That Spooky is one talented kitty. Thanks very much for the visit and for the kind words. :)

• LWK, I've never seen Real Housewives but I'm guessing it's a reality show? That's pretty cool about going to college near Scranton. Too bad you don't watch The Office. ;) Thanks so much for stopping by. :)
