My best sighting this year was 52 in a field. When I see the tom's fanning I almost run off the road. There is a very good populace around me, I see them next to the expressways.Ben Franklin wanted them to be the national bird over the eagle here in the US.

Love turkeys! Except the one who bites our mailman and our electric meter reader...he is a menace. And, wow! Thank you! What a surprise! Such great company I'm in....

what a great group of blogs ... and turkey sausage rocks my breakfast daily

I'm alternating between admiring your beautiful turkey photos and being jealous of them. :)

Great photos Hilary.
I find it strange to see turkeys in the country now. Our neighbour in South Burlington had one in their backyard!
I also see hawks, and turkey vultures and we are in suburbia ... so strange.

Great finds this week, you always find such great blogs!

Well, although I am a FAN of yours, I don't have quite the display of this guy. And thanks for the POTWs, I always enjoy learning about new blogs. :-)

Thanks for the love, Hilary. You know I return it to you via a virtual hug!

We have more and more wild turkey sightings around the Boston area every week. I've had to slam on the brakes a couple of times while watching one cross the street. They really aren't the smartest birds :-)

TexWisGirl said...

Wild turkeys are beautiful and rather smart. Domesticated -- not so much. That one is a good looker.

Splendid turkey-shots! The other day there were 2 turkeys and a deer leaving our driveway when we came home. As quick as I was with my camera, it wasn't quick enough. So I'll just enjoy these instead.

I've never seen a turkey up close before - now I know why we always used pine cones for their bodies in our elementary school Thanksgiving art projects! Beautiful photos! And thank you so much for the POTW!! I'm very honored!!

Nezzy (Cow Patty Surprise) said...

We've had so many followin' the cattle in the winters (the pick the grain' outta the cow patties...I know TMI...ewwwww) that the Conservation Agents come net 'em and take 'em to the National Forrest 'round here.

You always pick the best blogs sweetie.

Now I gotta catch up on some good readin'!!! :O)

That first shot is a great abstract, Hilary. Beautiful tones, too.
