A Photo to Share and Posts of the Week

Thanks everyone for understanding the delays in setting up the Posts of the Week. Summertime is unpredictable for me as we tend to get up to Frank's cottage when we can, and sometimes stay longer than originally anticipated. The rest of the season will probably be hit and miss.

Zoom!

This tiny ball of colourful feathers is a Ruby-throated Hummingbird which was just taking off from the feeder and on its way back to its perch. What we're seeing is the back of the bird, with wings and tail feathers splayed.

Now, without further delay (finally!), here are the posts of the week.

The icon/award to the left here is yours for the taking if your blog post has been named as a Post of the Week - either as top post or as a runner up, today or in past weeks.

This week's top post goes to:

For some reason we're not seeing the hummingbirds this summer like normal. Maybe it's been even too darn hot for them! :-)

You have to be mighty fast to get a pic of a hummingbird ~ amazing shot. It almost looks like he(or she) is free falling...kind of takes my breath away.

And thank you for including my post. Much appreciated.

Thank you so much for making us aware of Wendy's poignant piece. I would have cried even without your postscript. My heart goes out to her and others in her situation.

Yes, I'm with everyone else in the "great hummingbird photo!" Only you could capture such an incredible image.

Oh, and thanks for including me in the list this week!

Hummingbird photo! I love it, it's the only way to get one to be still, by capturing the image. I always wonder if hummingbirds inspired the tales of faeries, they seem so "not of this plane of existence"!

The magic of the world around us never ceases to amaze me.

Thanks so much for the post mention, Hilary, I appreciate it and was genuinely surprised seeing as that week has thankfully all but faded into memory :-)

I'm coming back to read your choices, Hilary...but as I have the memory of a snail I want to recommend http://mrlondonstreet.blogspot.com/2010/07/saying-goodbye.html or quite frankly, any one of his posts.

As I used to say in the dim and distant past: see ya later, Alligator

Love the photo! Summer is unpredictable for everyone. Sometimes blogging has to take a backseat. That being said, I can't wait to come back and read the POTW.

I can understand getting lost at the cabin. Sometimes that car just doesn't want to go home. Have to let it rest.

I enjoyed Nesting when I read it last week. I love Ethel. Will check out the others.

Enjoy the lake.

Great choices on the POTW, thanks for finding such wonderful blogs. My heart aches for Wendy, but I think she'll be fine, she is a very strong person!

Here's an echo: that hummingbird shot is gorgeous. It took a lot of skill (which you have) to get that right! Really impressive.

Loved Alane's piece on the DMV. Will check out the others. I am so sorry for your friend's loss.

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you for the great reads!

Oh and Hilary! That Hummingbird shot is incredible. I've been getting messages from some of my readers that my posts would come up better if illustrated.

I'll have to do something about that!
