Loose Ends

Below are a few photos which steer away from my usual flowers, birds, outdoorsy themes. I hope you enjoy them.

garden hill
One day in June, Frank and I went to do a little fishing at a nearby town. This is their little General store which was established in 1857. It's been through some changes through the years, I'm sure. How long do you figure it will be until that phone booth is obsolete?

school is out
We took the slow route home - following behind a school bus.

car window across highway
Snapped on the move, from the front passenger seat, through the left rear window, across the highway. Isn't that a beautiful heap of mess behind the horse?

soccer balls
My neighbour coaches kidlet soccer. On this day in May, she was pumping up balls in preparation for an upcoming practice.

princess galoshes
Another neighbour of mine - Princess Galoshes (aka Lily).

piano
I liked the pattern that the sun and Venetian blinds made on our piano. I can't play but I inherited it from my mother who did. It's been on this earth a fair bit longer than I have. I'm happy that my son, Alex is so musically inclined. It's a lovely instrument and I know that he will continue to appreciate it after I'm long gone.

girls night out
This is Girl's Night Out - grapefruit, pineapple and lemonade infused with white wine. It's my new summer beverage. Can I pour one for you?

red baron 2
Perhaps a beer is more to your taste?

sprouts
Can I offer you something to eat? Among other goodies, we have fresh, buttery Brussels sprouts flavoured with garlic, wine, freshly ground pepper and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.

cheese please
You might enjoy this selection of cheese.

skitty boy
If you don't mind, I'm sure Skittles wouldn't refuse a nibble of that cheddar.

wet dog
And whatever he turns his nose up at, I'm sure Benny will be happy to gobble. Just don't let him jump up on you - he's been playing with the hose, again.

That's it for today. I hope you enjoyed the loose ends photos. I should have something new for you very soon.

Oh and one more thing.. today is five years since I've begun blogging. Who knew that sending a few words and photos out into the WWW could be so much fun? There are some incredibly wonderful people out there on the reading and viewing end of thing. I mean all of YOU, of course, and I thank you for a very enjoyable five years.

Did you happen to count the black and white soccer balls? Looks like onze to me! Perhaps the lone white ball has douze hidden on it somewhere.

Congrats on 5 years of doing what comes so naturally to you - lucky for us that you learned to share so generously waaaaay back in kindergarten. ; )

The first image reminded me of the little store in Desbarats, where my dad would have his fish frozen and held for him until our return trip home after our summer vacations all those years ago. Princess Galoshes is adorable, as are Skittles and Benny. Just another of your great sets of photos.

Happy Blogversary Hillary - I've sure enjoyed "meeting" you! Seeing the world through your perspective is always a treat for me. Love so many of these photos that I can't pick a favorite - they all speak of everyday ordinary life and so are very special. I'll have one of those wine coolers with you. Enjoy your week.

The princess galoshes were my favorite... until I got to see Benny's sweet face! It's been too long. Thanks for the lovely pictures. I couldn't look at them larger, though, since Flickr says I don't have permission to view them. And I'm a Flickr pro!

Nice change of pace with the photos. That store is the kind of place I'd love to stop and linger

The Loose Ends Photos are great. Even the ones through car windows. I like all the soccer balls. The photo of the old store is sparking my imagination of what it was like so many years ago. Of course the telephone booth was not there in the beginning, and now it is probably not even working. Hard to even find public telephones these days.

What wonderful snaps! I'll have some of those brussel sprouts along with a slurp of your Red Baron. Benny looks like such a little devil, much resembling my fox terrier, Beatle who also loves to be wet.

Congratulations on those five years of wonderful photography. You have kept our eyes glued to our monitors joyfully.

Congrats on the 5 years and sharing your wonderful thoughts and photos with us all! Lovin' that little Princess Galoshes and of course Skittles and Benny!

I love the clarity of your photographs. And yes, I will take a Girl's Night Out, thank you very much!

Princess Galoshes is super-cool. May she always be so.

Was Benny a gate crasher at the girls' night out?

Thanks for sharing your images, Hilary. That phone booth caught my eye straight away. I remember when my dad was an employee of the Bell System and the bell logo was ubiquitous--a symbol of progress as well as of security. Never did we think that that real-world full of hardware would give way to the technology we have in our pockets today.

Hilary: Congratulations on your 5th Blogaversary! Loved seeing The puppy and the cat. Two peas in a pod! Loved the General Store too. Small towns can be so fascinating with these finds!!! :)

Scott Law said...

You've been keeping that shutter busy and you do very well with non-floral images too. I'd say the phone booth has been obsolete for a few years now.

Unspoken said...

FIVE YEARS!!!! Congrats :). I feel I've been here since nearly the beginning. I am sure of it!

For a minute I wondered where I was and then I saw Benny and knew you were still there ;). (Yes, I read the beginning, but you really switched up your style on this one. I guess it's the five years and all ;).)

BTW Jane and I NEED the galoshes. We have the skirt :).

Jayne said...

Well, happy blogaversary Hilary! Five years. Gosh, I feel like I'm hitting a wall at two. You inspire me to go on... ;)

Nothing like galoshes and a skirt. And a phone booth? Oh my gosh--can't believe it's not already obsolete! (Thought is was.)

Lord, I've been bad, haven't I? Love the piano. And the beer. Lovely colo(u)rs. You seem to have quite the delicate touch with slicing limes too, my dear.

And, apropos of nothing, let's say Paul McCartney's Lunch Box/Odd Sox. Kind of has a loose-end, throwaway feel to it, maybe?

Hilary said...

Thanks everyone for the good wishes and kind comments. You sure do make blogging a fun experience. :)

I hope I'm not too late to the party! I've taken a cue from the little fashionista in pink and decked myself out in frills and gumboots (the boots are handy for when Benny rushes past). That summer refresher drink would suit me just fine, thanks. Oh and some cheese, certainly. I hope Benny won't be jealous of me petting the cat, but wet dogs, no matter how cute, are a wee bit smelly.
Happy 5th Blogging Year! I admire your stamina.
