Like a Walk in the Park

It's been ages since we've taken a walk around the pond path together. There's some mulled apple cider by the door - the spiced rum is optional. Please grab a cup and join me.

Autumn Joy - sedum
My own front yard offers this sedum (Autumn Joy) bloom in its early, pink stages of opening.

droplets
It must have rained earlier. These droplets on a broad leaf sure do catch the eye.

wet leaf
More proof of the recent rain.

Mr. Blue at fav spot
This is my favourite spot at my local park and I've photographed it often. The subtle changes of autumn have begun to take place. Look closely to the right of the tree roots and you'll see Mr. Blue fishing the shore.

QAL seeds
A Queen Ann's Lace, closed up tight. Lots of tiny seeds adorn each little bloom.

QAL with red flower
Here's how it looked wide open, in full bloom. Notice the tiny red flower in the center? My bloggy pal Linda pointed that out to me in one of her earlier blog posts. I never noticed the red petals before and now I look for it every time. Thanks, Linda!

wild chicory
And last, but not least, one of my favourite late summer to early autumn flowers - the wild chicory. Such a pretty shade of blue.

I hope you enjoyed the walk. Let's do it again sometime soon.

This is a scheduled post. In all reality, I didn't just walk around the pond because Frank and I are up at the cottage for a few days for one last visit, this year. Still, feel free to help yourself to the cider. It's virtually a bottomless cup.

I see what you meant when you commented that a walk along my lake road is very much like a walk in your neck of the woods. I'm happy to see the up-close versions of the same wildflowers I was looking at. I would never have been able to do it so well...best to leave it to an expert like you! Thanks for pointing out Mr.Blue (rather like trying to spot Waldo). Right--I'm ready for that bottomless cup of cider (my favourite kind)now. Cheers!

The cider was gone when I got here. I think ladyfi drank more than her share. :)

Your photo of the red flower in the Queen Anne's Lace was much prettier than mine. I'm so glad you found it. And the chicory blossom is beautiful.

They are very great shots. This is the first year that I ever notices how the Queen's Anne lace close up like that. I had one in the house and it dried up into that shape. I like the sedum photo.

Raindrops on leaves are a sure bet for a photo. Just lovely. And that tightly screwed up ball of seed heads magnificent. (That doesn't mean that I don't like all the others) but I think it is good to hear what other people like best, don't you?.

I love that blue of the chicory. A lovely walk Hilary.
And I definitely would go with the spiced rum .... Thank you:)

If you roast and grind the roots of the chicory plant, you can make a drink reminiscent of coffee.
And the sedum.... I dug up a teeny tiny seedling from my son's compost pile in the spring, and planted it in my front garden, and now it's just about to produce some pink flowers!

Ahhhh...

That's the sound I made when looking at each photo. When I thought I'd seen the best, another would follow that was just as pleasurable or even more.

Thanks for the cider. I enjoyed it immensly. Great shots. I posted a Queen Anne picture too.
Very jealous of your trips to the cottage. Wish I was there instead of doing the laundry.

Looks as though you're just beginning a lovely fall, Hilary while mine is mostly over. I love the seed head and the rain watered leaves the best.
