Faceless Portraits

I have a few photos taken at different times, of various people which focus on something other than their faces. Some have been posted before. Others have not. I thought they might make an interesting collection. Of course, that's all in the eye of the beholder, so I hope YOU enjoy them.

sweet2
"Children are the hands by which we take hold of heaven." Henry Ward Beecher
My beautiful little neighbour - only days old.

little feet
"Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?" Frida Kahlo
These darling feet belong to her, too.

getting G2
"When you step on the brakes, your life is in your foot's hands." George Carlin
This is my son driving home from acquiring his G2 license earlier this month.

ring
"And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world it is best to hold hands and stick together." Robert Fulghum
This lovely hand and ring modeled by my newly-engaged young cousin.

lilytoes
"It's a pleasant thing to be young, and have ten toes." Robert Louis Stevenson
These cute little toes belong to another, younger cousin.

hey
"In times of joy, all of us wished we possessed a tail we could wag." W. H. Auden
The tail is attached to Binky. Half wild, half pet, totally adorable.

FourForFishing
"Why do you always wear a hat?" " 'Cause it fits my head." Nicholas Evans
One summer evening, a few years back, I was walking around a local park and spotted this group fishing off of the dock. I couldn't resist snapping a shot. It's still a favourite of mine.

I hope you enjoyed my faceless portraits.

All the photos are wonderful and they certainly tap into my emotions. The baby images remind me of the miracle of birth. The last image reminds me of the movie Steel Magnolias, which played to relationships.

Beautiful snapshots of life dear Hilary - as you know some of them touched me tears.;) Some just reinforced the simple yet magical beauty of life itself.
The best in it is indeed free.
Have a lovely Sunday my dear friend,

Ha, I love the straw hats. That's brilliant.

How about I suggest Jaco Pastorius' also brilliant Portrait Of Tracy? No faces there either but it's still, I think, compelling.

Beautiful collection, that last photo is an award winner! I have to say, the photo of your son driving brings back memories for me.

Anvilcloud said...

Some creative photography and a creative theme to pull the shots together.

Wonderful! Every time my daughter takes my hand (she still does at 13!), I wonder how it grew so big so fast. It seems only yesterday that she her hands and feet were like the child's that you photographed.

The hats! The hats against the water are just wonderful. They're all good, but that one is special.

• Thank you, Frank. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing some oldies. The photos - not those recognized body parts. ;)

• Thanks kindly, Tabor. :)

• Adrian, thanks very much. :)

• Lady Fi, thank you. I've noted the post and will include it on Wednesday's POTW as your recommendation. :)

• Daniel, you're an ole softie. ;) I'm glad you enjoyed the photos and the emotions they evoked. :)

• Zuzana, I'm sure I know which ones were tear-tuggers for you. Thanks for the kind words, my friend. :)

• Dave, thanks very much. I'm glad you liked them. :)

• Thanks very kindly, Dawn. Those toes were really cute and I had to either tickle them or photograph them. It turns out that I did both. ;)

• Anyes, I'm sure there was a lot of thinking going on. There usually is while fishing. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• SueAnn, thanks so much. Always a pleasure to see you drop by. :)

• Thanks very kindly, Twain12. :)

• Thanks, Cricket. I'm glad you think so. Thanks also for the musical accompaniment. I don't think you're ever at a loss for ideas. :)

• Steve, thank you so much. That means a lot to me coming from such a fine photographer. Sons are always driving us.. ;) Thanks for the visit. :)

• AC, thank you kindly. :)

• Thanks so much, Ruth. I'm pleased that you enjoyed them. :)

• Thank you, Brian. :)

• Jillsy, thanks. I have to admit that all of the faces attached to the body parts are pretty beautiful too. At least on the first many photos. I don't believe I ever saw the faces of the folks in the last one. :)

• DJan, thanks so much. I'm glad my photos inspired some reunion ideas for you. It's one way you can post pictures of folks without worrying whether or not they'd want to appear in a blog. ;) Looking forward to seeing them. :)

• Deb, thank you so kindly. I'll have to take you walking up where that photo was shot, one day. Spring is coming! :)

These are awesome shots, especially the macros of the details of the newborn, etc. I need to remember to do more of these type of macros-of-the-details in people photos! You definitely have "the eye" for them!

All beautiful and all with very fitting quotations. I absolutely love the fishing foursome.

Glo said...

I would call these photos of yours Precious! Each one is rather endearing. It's fascinating to attempt to read body language, which often says so much more than just facial expression. BTW I love the choice of sitting apparatus the fisher-people used! The lady on the big red 'cooler' with wheels looks the most comfortable :)... and she has something to put her/their catch in to wheel away.

I love baby hands
and sweet Binky between the feet
I have always found photos of people looking away to be so poignant so that last shot really pulls at my heart

wonderful collection

Midlife Roadtripper said...

I love the one of the racoon, but have to agree with fishermen choice. I often take photos of unusual things. I hate when someone faces you and smiles for the camera. Loses the moment, I think.

yaya said...

Each pic is so special in it's own way, but I do so love the fishing one! What a wonderful moment in time.

Fragrant Liar said...

Loved all these pics, especially the one with the baby's hand. I just adore babies--so sweet. But the one that struck me really funny was Binky. My youngest daughter's nickname is Binky, and I thought of her little hiney in that shot.

I am always amazed at how some people can really capture something in photos. It is a true talent. I usually just get part of someone's nose or half of the great vista I so wanted to memorialize - bad aim. The pictures are beautiful - especially the little baby feet.

Hilary said...

• Thanks, Elizabeth. I think you started reading my blog after all the raccoon posts. That's not even Binky's best side. ;)

• JarieLyn, thanks very much. I'm so glad you enjoyed them. :)

• Gary, thank you for the kind words. They're very much appreciated. And I'd like to have hair like his, too. ;)

• SD, thank you so much. I'm pleased that you like them. :)

• Sandy, thank you, too. The fishing folks seemed so serious (if you can tell that from behind) but yes, on the same wavelength for sure. :)

• Thank you so much, Kat. I'm not surprised that you were drawn to the baby shots. :)

• Cloudia, thank you very much for such incredibly kind words. I can't tell you how much they mean to me. You've made my day. Thank you for that, my friend. :)

• Thanks very much, Linda. Always a pleasure to see you drop by. :)

• Glo, thanks for such a kind comment. I like the way you notice things like their seating and body language. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Ben, thank you kindly. :)

• Thanks, Suldog. I'm happy to know that my photo got your imagination going. That's got to be a good thing. :)

• Joanna, thank you. Every one of your visits do the same for me. :)

• Dianne, thanks so much. Babies and animals.. how could I go wrong, eh? I'm pleased that you enjoyed it, my friend. :)

• MJ, thank you. I know what you mean about the posed images. They never feel real. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Yaya, thanks very much. I'm glad you do. :)

• FL, that's too funny that you nicknamed your daughter Binky. I wonder how much she'd appreciate knowing that her Mom is telling people that she has a hairy behind. ;) Thanks for the visit. :)

• Bimbimbie, that's true.. and something I hadn't noticed. :)

• MaggieGem, thanks very kindly. Much appreciated. :)

• Sandra, thanks very much. I'm so glad you think so. :)

• Unknown Mami, they're irresistible, aren't they? :)

• Thanks, TSannie. I'm glad you stopped by. :)

• Thanks, Di. They might just but I don't think I ever saw their faces so I doubt I'd recognize any of them again.. except maybe by their seating arrangements. ;)

Cheryl Kohan said...

Just wonderful, Hilary. I love them all (as usual) but especially the picture of Binky...so sweet!

I have a friend in California who had to save some duck eggs and she put them under one of her setting hens. All but one died but she saved one of the little ducks by taking him into her house and caring for him until he could be out with the others. She said he follows her everywhere, now. And he'd rather hang out with the chickens than the other ducks! She named him BD (for Baby Duck) and she calls him a "chuck". Get it?

Hilary said...

Oh Cheryl, that's such a delightful story... worthy of a blog post on its own. How sweet. Love "Chuck!" Thanks always for stopping by.
