Connect the Shots

Each of the following photos have been posted before, at different times but together they work as a bit of a theme. The lyrical quotes beneath each one do not match very well with the images but they do relate to the theme. Can you figure it out?

curious cardinal
"Come and sit by my side, if you love me. Do not hasten to bid me adieu."
A curious but wary Cardinal watching me from the branch of a newly-budding tree. He sure seems to have personality, doesn't he? He looked into my camera in May/2010.

24 - SettingSunOnBottleAndGlass
"I was walking along, minding my business, when love came and hit me in the eye."
A cold drink... one summer evening... on the dock... as the sun set. Need I say more?

b-misttrail2
"Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you."
One afternoon, back in October, 2008, the air temperature dropped slightly. Walking away from the creek, a fine mist began to form, and drift over the path up ahead. By the time we reached the path just a few meters away, the air was filled with this golden cloud. Here two people, one on bike and one on foot break through the haze.

droplets2
"I threw a pebble in a brook and watched the ripples run away."
I knelt down to take this photograph of water droplets weighing heavily on an aging blade of grass in July/2009.

damheron6
"I feel so bad I've got a worried mind. I'm so lonesome all the time."
Walking around my local pond, one July day in 2008, I saw this handsome fellow hanging around the dam. He seemed quite unconcerned with my presence and allowed me to photograph him in all his majestic beauty. I hope I'll see a lot of him this year.

fw2
"That feeling goes stealing down to my shoes while I just sit here and sigh."
Celebratory fireworks ended an event-filled weekend in Kingston at Royal Military College on the occasion of my older son's graduation and commissioning last May.

bloom
"Sweeter than the roses, covered all over from head to toe."
A tiny, delicate bloom, simple and pretty, caught on my camera last August.

So tell me, how do my photos and quotes relate?

My soundtrack for you: Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

p.s. Leaves That Are Green is a personal favorite. I was 12 or 13 when I learned it and still play it now and then :-)

A Rainbow of Beauty Hilary!!!
An incredibly beautiful rainbow.

Such lovely photos!! Wait, did you have a question?

Along These Lines ... said...

Oh no, I'm seeing shots.

Kat said...

Wow. I definitely didn't notice the rainbow until your readers pointed it out in the comments. Each shot is just so beautiful, I was distracted. :)

Gorgeous!

ooo...love that sidewalk pic and all the sunlight you capture in it...

Beautiful pics. Those droplets are magnificent. Got some of the references to color, but most quotes escaped me. Sigh.

P.S. Didn't get rainbow until it was pointed out.

I'm not seeing a rainbow, I felt you are in love.Spring fever?

DJan said...

I also felt spring and love of life in every picture and quote. Or maybe just love in general? Sheesh! I hope to find out soon so I can move on with my life! :-)

Hi Hilary ~ I made sure I didn't look at any comments until I tried to figure out the puzzle and I came up with a rainbow, too! What fun :) Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet

The spectrum of all things being connected :)

Each of your photos are a delight. Never having seen a Cardinal in person, I was delighted to see yours with such a glint in its eye!

Linda at To Behold The Beauty said...

Magnificent images, Hilary. But I didn't get the "puzzle." You have some smart readers.

Unknown said...

you are so clever..
I love the photos.. love them.

I didn't see the rainbow until the fifth image - the heron - then it was starkly there! FUN!

(When are you gonna do another jigsaw puzzle?)

Loved all these pictures, but the Blue Guy and I bonded big time and will be going out on a date Saturday night.

I did not get the Rainbow thing, but I cheated and saw someone else's answer. Does my initiative to cheat get me any points?

Everything is so pretty and makes me ache for summer.

OmaLindasOldeBaggsandStuftShirts said...

I'm a dodo bird. I just gawked at the wonderful photos individually and missed the colors slide into a rainbow until I went back for the third time. Third times the charm I guess. Wonderful as always but now I have to add clever as well. The Olde Bagg

Shammickite said...

Well, I could pretend and say that I figured out your "Rainbow theme" all by myself but that would be telling fibs as I actually read the comments and then went back to the pix and said "oh yes, I see it now".... very sneaky Hilary, and a lot of fun. It's a shame I'm so dense!

messymimi said...

A rainbow of beautiful images to give us hope that summer will indeed come, despite the cold that has returned.

ellen abbott said...

the cardinal is such an incredible shot. and the great blue...my favorite bird.

Anonymous said...

Such gorgeous shots - that last one is just exquisite.

Is the theme: love?

Cheryl Kohan said...

So, so pretty. I recognized the song lyrics but didn't tie them in with a rainbow right away. You are so clever. My two faves are the Orange Colored Sky (because it's got a love connection) and the Blue Bayou (just because). But they're all outstanding.

Frank Baron said...

The shots and song lyrics illustrate the colours of the spectrum.

What do I win? ;)

Elizabeth Grimes said...

That was fun and clever! I loved that. :)

I'd be a liar if I said I saw what others here have seen. I had no clue until I saw the comments.

Having said that, I'll once again say that you're the best photographer in the world and you should be published in some form that would make you gazillions of dollars.

Daryl said...

Colors are all I can come up with ... spectrum of colors .. rainbow of colors .. colors .. color me stuck on colors .. must be the cold . achooo

Mage said...

No cadmium Yellow? LOL

Reb said...

Very cool putting in the rainbow, which I had to read the comments to figure out. Lovely photos.

Liz Mays said...

I was looking at all the colors, but I didn't think rainbow. So gorgeous!

Anonymous said...

Um, rainbow? Yeah, I'm cheating. I was thinking along the lines of spring's arrival or someone leaving. But now I'm saying 'duh!' on the rainbow. What a beautiful, brilliant depiction!

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure what the theme is, I'm just stuck on the Blue Heron and how close you were able to get!!

Stunning photos, once again.

Bob Bushell said...

Lovely photos, each one has an arc.

Karen said...

I didn't see the rainbow, either. Still don't get it...duh... Excellent pics as always.

All gorgeous, but Mr. Red Bird and the heron(?) are my favorites. I'll admit I didn't the rainbow; I was just too taken by the detail. I'll go have another look.

amazing images Hilary!

The quotes and descriptions cause me to stop and think. If you've done that then it's a successful post. Cool how you color schemed the quotes to the color in the picture!

Anvilcloud said...

Well, I wouldn't have guessed in a million years. I need bigger, brighter dots closer together. :)

Doris said...

This was amazing! Very clever of you and your followers. Your photographs are gorgeous. I especially found the Cardinal stunning and will use that as my excuse for not being able to think and solve the puzzle.

Ruth Hiebert said...

Yes,I too am one of those people who didn't figure it out on my own. After reading some comments.i went back for another look, and yes,now I see the rainbow and it is beautiful.Well done.

SandyCarlson said...

I love a group project. I can weigh in at comment 45 and feel kind of safe with the rainbow! I was so drawn into the images, the quotes, and your own words that all I could think of was that life is good. And it can be warm out there.

Lisa said...

Your photography is amazing.
Beautiful. I have seen you around the blogs and wanted to stop by and glad I did.

Hilary said...

Thank you all for stopping by to see my photos, and to play along with my theme question. Many of you got it - others realized it when reading others comments. The answer was Colours of the Rainbow or Spectrum.

Top points to Susan in the Boonies who figured out that the song titles from the quotes also reflected the colours. They are as follows.

Red River Valley
Orange Colored Sky
Yellow
Leaves That Are Green
Blue Bayou
Mood Indigo
Sweet Violets

Thanks everyone for playing along and for leaving such kind comments.

I don't know - oh, just saw where someone said a rainbow. Yes, all different colors. I thought of colors when I came to your site. I was thinking of your series that I loved -- when you did the consecutive posts all based on the different/same colors.

Anyway, beautiful. Enjoyed the heron the best. Oh, and the droplets on the leaf. And, the...

Oh I cheated! I mean I read the comments and my own suggestion would have been so far off (anything from love to loneliness and time and goodbyes, hehe, not at all connected trough the pictures)
But of course now I see the rainbow, the colours of it to be exact!
Beautiful and so clever.;) Each image is stunning, I particularly love the dew drops, they look like precious stones...
Have a lovely Friday dear friend,
xoxo

Very clever! Beautiful photos.

I enjoyed the images so much I wasn't thinking about how they linked together. But, yes, rainbow. Of course. So easy when you see the answer - heh!

Can't pick a favorite as each is so good in its own way. I do like the boys and the bicycle a lot. A whole lot.

And the image before that of the beer bottle and the glass - truly a magnificent use of light.

Thanks for bringing color to my day!

Take care.

I didn't clue in as so many others did. My thoughts lingered on love won and love lost.

Well, I didn't get the rainbow at all and now, once it's pointed out - of course! I thought the theme was Love. Then got stumped by the drops on the grass (leaf?), so thought it had to do with water. Mists, drops, lake, but drat! - no water in the first pic.
Sigh - ah well, your readers are smart cookies!

every one of your posts has a theme of beauty to me
how's that for not really answering the question
but I do mean it

I love the light on the dock
and the water beads
and that purple bloom with its halo of a reflection, that makes my eyes smile
