The Rain, the Park and Other Things

I've been away from my own computer for over a week now but should be heading home pretty soon. I hope to be back to a more normal blogging visit schedule but I can't say for sure. This summer will be one of running around, touching base here and there. I'll probably have a few more details about that as the season progresses.

The following photos were taken over the past month. I hope you enjoy them.

purple
There's an Alice Walker quote I like which says "I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it." I sure don't want to piss anyone off so when I saw this beautiful purple bloom, I had to stop and snap this shot.

hilly road
This was the view when Frank and I were on our way home after a mini trip north.

feather reflection
A short while later, the blue skies clouded over and the rain began.

robin watch2
Of course, rain is good for the earth, particularly at this time of the year. This robin is waiting patiently for a worm to appear - or so it might seem.

rubber boots
It's good for providing puddles for little one to stomp in.

fav spot
It's also good to keep ponds at full capacity and to encourage the growth of beautiful greenery.

shrooms
And fungi.

anglerettes
A couple of neighbourhood kidlets trying their luck at catching fish while I tried my luck at catching a shot of them.

mourning dove pair2
These two were all lovie dovie, each taking turns to coo impressively and flutter their wings. I suspect that there are Mourning dove eggs hatching as I type.

squirrel cutie
That's all, folks. Come on back in a few days for a few more images.

Connect the Shots

Each of the following photos have been posted before, at different times but together they work as a bit of a theme. The lyrical quotes beneath each one do not match very well with the images but they do relate to the theme. Can you figure it out?

curious cardinal
"Come and sit by my side, if you love me. Do not hasten to bid me adieu."
A curious but wary Cardinal watching me from the branch of a newly-budding tree. He sure seems to have personality, doesn't he? He looked into my camera in May/2010.

"I was walking along, minding my business, when love came and hit me in the eye."
A cold drink... one summer evening... on the dock... as the sun set. Need I say more?

b-misttrail2
"Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you."
One afternoon, back in October, 2008, the air temperature dropped slightly. Walking away from the creek, a fine mist began to form, and drift over the path up ahead. By the time we reached the path just a few meters away, the air was filled with this golden cloud. Here two people, one on bike and one on foot break through the haze.

droplets2
"I threw a pebble in a brook and watched the ripples run away."
I knelt down to take this photograph of water droplets weighing heavily on an aging blade of grass in July/2009.

damheron6
"I feel so bad I've got a worried mind. I'm so lonesome all the time."
Walking around my local pond, one July day in 2008, I saw this handsome fellow hanging around the dam. He seemed quite unconcerned with my presence and allowed me to photograph him in all his majestic beauty. I hope I'll see a lot of him this year.

fw2
"That feeling goes stealing down to my shoes while I just sit here and sigh."
Celebratory fireworks ended an event-filled weekend in Kingston at Royal Military College on the occasion of my older son's graduation and commissioning last May.

bloom
"Sweeter than the roses, covered all over from head to toe."
A tiny, delicate bloom, simple and pretty, caught on my camera last August.

So tell me, how do my photos and quotes relate?
