First Snow, Drive Bys and Posts of the Week

I only have a few photos and POTWs, this week. The small numbers reflect a busy holiday season - a bit too busy for regular blog visits but I'll get back on track again before too long, I suppose. Until then I hope you enjoy this sampling.

late sun first snow 2012
Our first snowfall of the season just a few days ago. We didn't get much - perhaps about 20cm (8 inches) but it looked pretty when I walked that afternoon.

first snow 2012
Small patches of slushy ice had begun to form on the pond.

drive by barn setting sun
This was a drive-by shooting snapped in November on our way home from a baby shower. Frank's sister was driving and I was snapping photos from the back seat.

driveby trees and sign
I thought this one had a bit of a surreal look to it. I'm not even sure what it is that I like about it, but I do. And perhaps you will also.

And now, without further delay, here are the Posts of the Week. The icon below is yours for the taking if if your blog post is named as a POTW.

Oh, I love that first picture, with the snow and trees and sun and shadow. Just gorgeous. We probably got about half the amount of snow that you did. But it's just as pretty. :)

The last photo with the surreal look remind me of a Alfred Hitchcock movie.

the trees casting their majestic shadows on the snow is so wonderful!!
I love how you call 8 inches of snow not much
here they call it a state of emergency

I love the last photo...like you it says something to my "innards". And thanks for the compliment of POTW. The others were all great. I always enjoy your taste....in reading and touching stories. Great job once again.

Snow always does look so pretty -- but i'd like it more if i didn't have to practically freeze to death to have it!

OMG, that first photo took my breath away. It is stunning, and I really like your drive-by shot too. So amazing.

I prefer pics of winter to actually being IN it. :-)

Speaking of which, can you do something about the cold air you insist on sending to Minnesota? My fingers have been cold since Thursday...

Though I am not a fan of winter, I enjoy looking at the sparkles; even better when I see your cold shots from the warmth of my front room.

Off to follow some of your POTW.

Gorgeous, artful images. Wonderful, Hilary.

What stunning photography, Hilary! I have to agree with Andy - that spooky pic looks like something from an Alfred Hitchcock movie (or Stephen King).
I can just see something scary written on that dark diamond-shaped road sign, once the light hits it....

"Welcome to Evil Village! You have 3 seconds to turn your car around or it will be swallowed by a mud monster disguised as a tree! cackle, cackle cackle....!"

Thanks for the lovely surprise! A POTW award!
I am honoured. And will check out the other blog posts.

The stark trees in all your shots epitomize winter. I DO like that last shot - it seems like a warning of some sort.

What special images you have captured here today--and throughout the year--Hilary. I am exceedingly grateful to you for your kindness with the POTW. I only wish I had your gift of photography! You have a big heart, and it's always a special treasure to stop in! Happy New Year! :)

Woohoo... Wendy told me that I have a POTW! Thanks so much Hilary. But it's all due to those two little boys....

oh, i think that top picture is just glorious!

Wow, love pic #1~captured it perfectly. We had the same snow here. It does make it looks all clean and sparkly outside. (if we had any sun that is!)The last pic makes me think a heavenly personage will come out from behind that tree. Beautiful. Happy New Year!

stephen Hayes said...

In that last picture it's all about that mysterious sign and imagining what it says. Happy New Year.

Frank Baron said...

That last was a "Wow!" shot. :)

The photos are beautiful, but they also remind me why I now live in the South. 30 degrees tonight and all my plants are living inside with me. Brrr. But no snow shovels and a high of 61 tomorrow. Pretty photos, though. Makes me want to visit, for a short time.

Hillary, I love your first photo! The lower sun and sun rays on the snow. Great!

Your first snow is beautiful. 8 inches may be a little one for you, but here that would be a major snowstorm. None in our forecast any time soon, :(

I want to climb into that first photograph!

I have managed to keep my Reader's unread posts below the 300 mark, but just barely. Slowly whittling away and posting lightly until then. Thank you for not giving up on me! ♥

So beautiful, but I truly want to just jump in that first one and take a walk!
