First, Last and Only

Sorry folks - no Posts of the Week this week and probably not next week either - but you never know. We're up at the cottage so I've not had online access to visit and collect the links for your fine blog posts.

You all deserve a rose for going to the bother of clicking on over here just to see.

rose2

This rose bud was the one and only blossom which appeared on my rose bush, this year. Don't feel too badly - I thought the plant was dead and gone. Last year, a rambunctious little Jack Russell Terror and an equally exuberant little three year old (hi Winston!) managed to trample the stalk just as it was about to bloom. It showed no signs of life for the rest of the last growing season and it wasn't looking too hopeful this year.

Then one day, in the early part of August, this lovely peachy blossom appeared, matured and died in the course of a few days. It gives me hope that it will rise again, next year.

So here you have it - the first, last and only rose of the season.

It was a rose from this plant which appeared in my blog header up until a couple of months ago. If you'd like to read about my very fond memory of first and last roses, please click here.

There will be another scheduled post tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Carol Anne! I enjoyed our day together and hope we can do it again soon.

Enjoy yourself: it's later than you think.
Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink.
The years go by, as quickly as a wink,
Enjoy yourself enjoy yourself
It's later than you think.

I only wanted to tell you not to think about us and to 'enjoy yourself at the cottage, when that old song came into my head and I was compelled to write it down.

We had a rose bush between an AC and a wall. I tried my best to dig it out. Year later, and I mean years, it grew and began to flower. As far as I know (we've moved), it's still going strong.

There's something so poignant about that rose bush working to give you such a special gift...and to say "I'm still here."

It may be the only bloom, but it's certainly one of the loveliest I've ever seen.

Very kind of you to share your one rose with us. Thank you.

You're so thoughtful! I love this solitary rose. I do feel badly for your mauled bush, though. If it survived a Jack Russell and 3 year old, it'll probably be okay. Eventually. Hope you are having a terrific time!

"Just?" to see? But there's so much for us to see! A rose is so much more than a rose. :)

Only one rose? Just one? Precious then. Hmmm. Only one of each us. Precious also :).

It was worth dropping in to see that rose. Now I kinda have hope my crape myrtles and tiny rosebush have survived the drought to bud next year! Enjoy yourself at the cottage!

I just cut a peachy bud like this and brought it inside. It opened into a sweet and perfect tiny rose. Have a good time at your cabin - enjoy the last of summer.
