The Rise and Fall of the Winter Sun

A few sunrises and sunsets from last winter.. last home.. last life.

Sunrises

February Morning on Baptiste4
Male or female, if my name were either Don or Dawn, I'd be up at sunrise to celebrate the glory that is me.
~ Jarod Kintz
The morning of February 11, 2015

good morning world
Morning is wonderful. Its only drawback is that it comes at such an inconvenient time of day.
~ Glen Cook
January 29th's sunrise.

February Morning on Baptiste3
The sun got confused about daylight savings time. It rose twice. Everything had two shadows.
~ Steven Wright
February 11th through my bedroom deck.

February Morning on Baptiste
Four AM - if I'm ever up that early, it's because I'm up that late.
~ Jarod Kintz
Same day - different window. And considerably later than 4 a.m.

new day3
The sun never sets on the British Empire. But it rises every morning. The sky must get awfully crowded.
~ Steven Wright
January 26th also pitched in with some pretty colours.

Sunsets

February moon2
I need to call it a night. But only because I don't know what else to call it. What's in between evening and morning?
~ Jarod Kintz
A lovely end to Groundhog Day, February 2, 2115.

dusk on muskie bay2
If a university's colors were blue and pink, they could be the Fighting Sunsets.
~ Jarod Kintz
January 27th - dusk over the frozen lake.

Pink Valentines dusk4
As the evening sky faded from a salmon color to a sort of flint gray, I thought back to the salmon I caught that morning, and how gray he was, and how I named him Flint. ~ Jack Handy
This is how it looked over the bay on Valentine's Day.

Pink Valentines dusk5
Speeding along I-10 last summer, heading west, I chased the sunset, thinking if I kept up I could extend my day indefinitely, or at least until I hit a major body of water. ~ Jarod Kintz
Facing west, outside the kitchen window and over the hills. Also February 14th.

Pink Valentines dusk7
Is there anything more beautiful than a beautiful, beautiful flamingo, flying across in front of a beautiful sunset? And he's carrying a beautiful rose in his beak, and also he's carrying a very beautiful painting with his feet. And also, you're drunk.
~ Jack Handy
A slightly zoomed in view.

I dreamed I was watching sunset last night, perhaps a prelude to your sunrises. I couldn't get my shots fast enough or in focus.Maybe it was more of a nightmare.LOL I have moved also, so am finding all kinds of new horizons.

Ah, but you have new wonderful and different sunrises and sets this year! It is the same sun, the same moon, only we have changed, be it place or perspective.

I found myself scrolling for not only the next photograph but for the next quotation.

What a disappointment to have it work out so poorly. It was such a spot.

I've missed visiting here, Hilary! Just can't seem to find time for blogging. Don't know where the time goes. So glad to see you're still posting your beautiful images. These are spectacular!

Such beautiful sunsets. I can't see sunsets from my house as there is a big hill between the house and the horizon. Same on the east side. On the other hand, we get lots of south sunshine which is very welcome this time of year.
My sister gets amazing sunset shots from her place at the top of that tall building in E.City.

I like yours better than my version earlier today! You are the champ!

I laughed at that last quote, but not before I looked for the flamingo.:-)

Hilary: I'm sure others have suggested this, but you need to think about publishing a book of your formidable collection! :)

Every shot is beautiful and I especially like the moon shot! I know you'll have some lovely pics from this Winter too, in your new location. You brought back all my memories from last year as I was recouping from my knee surgery. We had so much snow and bitter cold last year but I was able to be home and stay inside and not have to work. This year it's been pretty mild compared to then and I'm glad since I'm out every day at 6:45am!

Truly spectacular sunrises and sunsets in your "other life".
Thanks for sharing them with us.
I don't see many sunrises, I just can't seem to get my eyes open for the show.

Hello Hilary,

Just wanted to say I'm still alive and when I get the time still have a look at your blog when I can. This was another wonderful example of why I have to check in when I can!

Take care,

Perhaps this new life won't be quite so picturesque, but it will offer new and wonderous images like those of the locks. Hugs.

Hello Hilary!
I've missed my visits here. Hoping to renew my blogging semi-addiction this year. :)

I watch the sunsets through the trees in my back yard from the upstairs window of my office/den. Your photos remind me of those peaceful times. I should do it more often.

Happy New Year to You and Your Family!

Stunning photos - you must miss it all at times, but lots to discover in your new life too.

Your incredible photos took me back to my first sunrise in the late Spring of 1974; such beauty I hadn't seen in my young life.

Your pictures bring those feelings flooding back; for that I thank you.
