A Tall Drink of Water and Posts of the Week

You're one tall drink of water, but I got to tell you, you don't look too bright.
~ Neil Gaiman

One of Uban Dictionary's definition for a "tall drink of water" is:
A man or woman that is tall, gorgeous, and super delicious. Like on a hot day, a tall drink of water is absolutely appealing.

My Zephyr is a handsome boy. And he's rather tall as cats go. And his purrs are a deep, soothing rumble of delicious love. So he could well be defined as the feline version of a tall drink of water but the Neil Gaiman quote above describes my boy rather well. He's sweet, beautiful and oh so loving but most wouldn't describe him as bright.

The cats always have a full bowl of fresh water handy (unless Benny decides to empty it instead of his own) and there's another bowl for the aforementioned canine beastie, so there's no shortage of liquid refreshment around for the critters. That didn't stop dear Zephyr from looking to a more awkward source of water - my near-empty not-so-tall glass of water.

Will your face even fit?

silly zephyr2
Yes, I guess it will.

silly zephyr
Okay, that's a bit too close - your chin is in the water. Try using your tongue.

silly zephyr3
Atta boy, Zeph!

silly zephyr5
Sweet success.

Zephyr
Zephyr might have to give you change if you offered him a penny for his thoughts but to me, he's my beautiful, loveable, tall drink of water,

My cat will go after a glass of milk. He tips it over if he cat fit his very fluffy head (fat) head inside. We try everything we can do to NOT let him have milk but he has other ideas.
My cat is very weirdly, extra long. Not tall, long. It is like he has an extra 1/4 of a cat attached to the end of him.

The pictures of your kitty are very nice. Have you shown him? I think he might like to see them.

And look how beautiful he is!
I just love cats; always have. They don't need my praise. They have their own way, somehow, of praising themselves....(clever li'l buggars.) But, I would be remiss to not sing their praises.
I am always amazed at how they can lap water from any vessel....much less this tall drinking glass.
Great shots, Hilary.
Thank you for the Post of the Week.
I am such a Daddy's girl. Always happy to write about my Daddy. Thank you, Hilary.

ABSOLUTELY loved the narrative you've made of these wonderful shots. The last one was the exclamation point. *Clap Clap*

Hey! I'm a POTW - SWEET!

Been a while, and feels VERY satisfying. Thanks

oh the little chin and the tongue!

I hope you don't permit Zephyr to hear your comments on his intellect. ;-p
I think he is positively breathtaking. All round and softy-bristly. He looks like a cartoon cat. Maybe his thought balloons are just invisible to you.
Ever think o' that?
Huh????

Suldog said...

You are the best cat photographer. If I was a cat, I'd send all my friends to you for having their portraits done.

Thanks for the POTW honor. Always a thrill to be mentioned!

Our Shadow looks so much like Zephr. She uses her paw to dunk in glasses and mugs to get drinks.

What great pictures! I love them all, but the "success!" one sure made me smile. :-)

What a fun series of photos and commentary. The last shot of your handsome boy is beautiful, and the caption is too funny.

What a determined little cat.

Now that was a clever post. Take a quote. Show some very different photos and then conclude that your great friend is a tall glass of water. I almost missed it!

Zephyr is a Tall Drink of Water by anyone's definition! Thank you for the POTW, Hilary. I appreciate your support and being included in this pool of talent.

Love the cat antics. And love discovering new posts! Thanks.

Great shots of Zephyr.

OmaLindasOldeBaggsandStuftShirts said...

super shots of a tall drink of water. I think Zephyr and Uma would love adventuring together. She actually did get her head caught in a plastic cup for water. Quite the site dashing about bashing into things until she knocked it off her head, then went to check to see if there was still water. She also would give change for a penny. tee hee....gotta love those kittencats. Thank you for your chosing GK's and my post Pay It Forward. Oma Linda

Hi Hilary! I haven't been an active blogger since health issues knocked the stuffin' out of me a few years ago, but I'm back! Your photos have gotten even more beautiful than before! I had a cat who drank from glasses by dipping her paw in and then licking it off. So good to see you're still blogging. So many people seem to have closed their doors.

CIN&BUD said...

Just a Beautiful Cat! Loved the photos! In my blog I posted a memorable photo of our 100 year old dog. Clyde. He passed away last year naturally at home. He loved being close to me when I worked on my Macrame Beaded Curtains.

Gayle said...

Zeph is indeed a breath of fresh air. :::heh:::What a delightful series of photos, glorious close-ups. I must start getting better pix of our Lucy and Toby. You surely inspire us all!

Daryl said...

oh i love these photos .. brought back memories of our first cat, Sans, she could stick her head into the smallest glasses ...

L. D. said...

That cat is just plain cat. If he had a bowl of water and a glass beside it with water, he would probably aim for the more interesting and maybe challenging thing.

Gail Dixon said...

The cat shots are so funny. I kept wondering when he was going to stick his tongue in the water. Cute!! Congrats to all the POTW winners. What a great group.

Barb said...

So handsome - love the nose. Zephyr definitely is mastering drinking from a glass. I've been off-line for awhile, dealing with family matters. I was surprised and honored this AM to discover I was included in POTW. Thanks so much, Hilary!

Slamdunk said...

My Internet is not cooperating, but I was able to see the image with your cat's chin in the water. Funny.

Our two young kittens drink out of everything. On was so curious about the bathtub, he took a splash jump while the youngest was scrubbing.

Congrats to your POTW--on the way over to Brian's now.

Linda said...

He certainly is persistent! Fun pictures!

That cat of yours is absolutely gorgeous. Great photos, Hilary!

Adorable acts. Good you framed them so well.

Thank you so much for the mention. It means a lot to me. :)

Cats do the darnedest things, very cute.

Zephyr is wise as well as photogenic. Nice pictures. My cat won't go out of her way to get anything. She came to me this way. But I love her regardless.

Sandi McBride said...

Batgirl does this...she also likes to drink from the faucet. Lovely photos of her too...I will spend tomorrow reading all the POTW...we had 12 inches of snow today on top of the 4 inches from yesterday so I really won't be going anywhere!
hugs

Oh Hilary, that is so precious. I love that you got photos of every step, and I don't care if some of our furry friends aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. They are perfect just the way they are. I love that last picture and your comment about it. He's gorgeous!

photowannabe said...

Love, love, love your photos of your precious kitty.
I'll bet if the glass had been bigger he would have tried to crawl into it...
Coming here always makes me feel good, Hilary.

Laura said...

How super cute is this Hilary!!! (and so much easier to photograph than a toilet bowl sip:-)

Rob-bear said...

Your boy looks quite pleased with himself after getting a drink from a semi-awkward situation. Great photos of him!

How beautiful!

Daisy, trouble that she is, doesn't drink from glasses. No. She puts her paw in and tips the glass over. sigh.

I had a good laugh at your cat, Hilary. Precious photography only you could catch! I enjoyed it. :)

Priceless. Just priceless. Mine do it also.
I may have to find a home for one of them. I have new allergies. . Our dog may have to stay outside all summer in the shop, and in his own house also.
I will be away now until mid March on Vacation.
