Then followed that beautiful season... Summer....
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.

And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.
~ F. Scott Fitzgerald

Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.

How sweet I roamed from field to field, and tasted all the summer's pride.
~ William Blake

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
~ John Lubbock

These are the days of the endless summer
These are the days, the time is now
There is no past, there’s only future
There’s only here, there’s only now.

I think I am at the point where I am looking forward to the cooler weather. Summer has been beautiful, it really has but I love the fall. M fiancé and I are planning a trip to Ontario and Quebec in October to see the changing for the leaves. I can't wait!

My jaw hit the floor. These are amazing! You always have such interesting compositions and use light to your best advantage. The bee on the thistle and the flower with the halo are standouts for me. :)

Where I live summer is short and mild. Yes, I wish it would last longer too. But...

summer seems to be leaving us a bit early this year. not that I'm complaining. I'm ready for open doors and windows.

love every one of these. the queen anne's lace, though, is stunning.

The good news is that summer isn't going yet. The weather network advises us not to close out pools yet because fall will be warm -- the first part anyway.

Summer is roaring at us here, with heat and humidity and kids still wanting to swim. This is a good perspective on it.

Bunch of goodies here. I was especially struck by the oak leaves, the duck and, of course, "my boy" looking like he'd been shot from an arrow across the sky.

All that, AND a quote from The Man. ;)

Very fine. :)

Frank Baron said...

Natch, that should be "like" an arrow (or "from a bow").

You get the most perfect photos in the first place and then choose the most perfect quotes to accompany them. This was like going on a short vacation for me. Lovely!! Just lovely!! :):)

Gorgeous photos Hilary; I've a feeling I will come back a few times to this post to cheer my autumn and winter days (which are already upon us here!).
The Ray Bradbury quote is great, and the one about the broken lawnmower is very funny, but true!!

Red said...

Really like the quote and the lawn mower's broken. Also like the heron which is flying and the cloud behind him.

The lighting in the first few photos is magical. A wonderful set of summer shots - so gorgeous!

Karen (formerly kcinnova) said...

The photographs are all stunning, the Ray Bradbury quote is deliciously beautiful, the Woody Allen quote made me spit my sip of water (How will I ever get the moose-in-spats image out of my head when I can't stop giggling!?) and I'm smiling over "suffer and like it" (I'm not a heat gal) and broken lawn mowers. :)

'Tis the season for end-of-summer posts!

I think bees smell like life; they have so much to do with it.

Do I have to choose a favourite image. OK, if you must twist my arm, it's the shot of the leaves in deep shadow.

You genius.

PS: May I nominate you for POTW?

Rob-bear said...

The images are as inviting as always!

Strange, though; I'm sure I heard some birds singing the tune of, "The party's over."

Jo said...

Your post makes me love summer, even though I don't and I'm pining for fall.

The damselfly? is so beautiful! And the coppery moon. Wow, Hilary. The quotes are just the right touch.
