The Snow Melts Away

I apologize for my minimal online presence, these days. I've had little time to visit blogs for the past week and I don't forsee that changing for at least a few more days. I will catch up eventually. I almost always do but for now I just want to let you know that I so appreciate your visits and kind comments on these scheduled posts. And just so you know, all is fine. I'm just keeping busy.

Now, I think it's time for another walk. Put on your comfy shoes, we're hitting the park path, once again.

carolines deck
Heading out the front door, you'll notice how beautifully the afternoon sun is bathing my neighbour's (hi, Caroline!) front deck with its warmth. We had a little bit of snow, on this morning but now it's melting quickly.

bare limbs3
As we enter the park, the dead branches of the pine tree directly ahead of us soak up the sun's rays.

icy valley
We've had some cold weather on and off through the winter. But the temperatures keep coming back to hover around the freezing point. This little valley always collects water and freezes in winter but turns slushy with the warmer weather. The sun was spilling onto it just beautifully at that stage and it demanded that I take a photo of it.

melting snow peanut
This might be a peanut that we left for the squirrels a few days earlier or someone else might enjoy feeding the little cuties, also. You can see how the snow is melting beneath it.

ducky opening
A peek between the twigs and old growth allows us a view of the mallards, just this side of a thin shelf of ice.

slushy willow reflection
A slushy puddle reflects the trunk of a beautiful old willow which proudly guards the pond's dock.

Thanks for joining me, once again. You're such fine company.

Let's see if I have this right. You're getting spring thaw in February.

What's wrong with this picture?

A grand wander....I really admire the peanuts.

It seems Mother Nature is experiencing a "Hot Flash" this winter in some parts.

Certainly an easier and spring-like walk on this day. :)

That peanut in the tree...perfect!!!
You sound as busy as many others out here...myself included. Glad I popped on by for a walk. Although right now...i feel as though I need a sit in that sunny chair...

Love the blueness of the water beneath the ducks as they float about. Very nice!

Such lovely pictures - I do love it when the sunlight floods in and onto snow...

Hilary, I have been absent too and am catching up. Our snow is not melting, having temperatures close to -20C we are in deep freeze.;)
Stunning images as always, one can perceive in the light that winter is progressing and getting closer to spring by each day.
Have a great Sunday,
xoxo

I love the light and perspective of the valley photo. Yes, this winter has been very mild here on Long Island. I'm not complaining, it's nice not to hear the furnace.

No need to explain or apologize. Your friends don't need it and your enemies won't believe it anyway!;)

Take your time, you always come back with such beautiful pics.

As for the peanut, i can't see the squirrels leaving one for days, so probably there are other squirrel lovers in your area.

You actually have more snow than we do at present though we have the puddles left from recent rains. Thanks for the walk - come have tea at my place when you can :)

And you're such a fine tour guide. Love that little porch.

all beautiful but that third one of the little valley was especially nice.

i love the mallards in that gorgeous blue water (even if it is icy!)

as long as you're doing well, we won't mind busy. :)

How about coming over here and feeding MY squirrels? They don't get enough (yeah right!). Great pictures as usual, and I know you will be back someday. I always look forward to your pictures. :-)

I love the random peanut here and there
I have taken to doing the same thing here, I like to imagine the squirrels talking about us :)

the deck looks a bit slippery

Just so glad to see the wonderful photos you always share so willingly...hope all is well with you...have not been as active as I normally am, either...even though Ive started up a second blog (that's from where I am visiting today, catching up from this end lol)It is 59 degrees and way to warm for this time of year. It's quite confusing to animals, isn't it? We have had 60+ sunny days for weeks at a time, followed by a quick warm squall, and more sunny days.

We'll all remember the winter that wasn't where it was supposed to be!

Love the peanut shot! We are in the same weather pattern. Some people around these parts are really sad that we haven't had the cold and snow...crazies! But I'm happy that we do have some sunshine to enjoy. Have a good week!

You can make even melting and slushy snow look good. I really liked the first image, of Caroline's front deck.

The snow is always melting so fast, your photographs, Hilary beautifully capture the process :-)

Love the one of the peanut atop the mound of snow. Very cool photos. :)

The sunlight enhances everything so nicely. The winters around the world are rather bizarre this year.

I'm surprised that peanut was still there.

Not much snow in the tropical south.

More people need to get out for a walk on a winter day and look for interesting things. I enjoyed your walk and photos.

Oh, so gorgeous! I went on a walk much like that today, with Canada Geese instead of mallard ducks, but still plenty of ice. I'll be sharing pictures from it all week long.

I don't like it when you apologize for not having time to visit blogs because I think you have nothing to apologize for. The blogs will always wait for you and be waiting when you have time and are ready.

Gorgeous images as always.

This was a nice walk. I like those dead branches on evergreens because they make such great fire starters. Even if it has been raining for days, I can always find some dry tinder that the tree has been holding up off the ground for me.

Life happens, Hilary - don't apologize for living it. We understand when you are too busy to blog.
Heck - I haven't blogged in a while and really seem to be stuck. Haven't a clue what to blog about. Oh well.

Thanks for taking us along on your walk. I'm amazed by your lack of snow and happy to see the sun shining. Makes it look warm where you are. Cute peanut too. LOL.
Sending hugs

Wow. Hilary, the lighting in these photos is spectacular. My goodness, can another day as such ever be reproduced? You do know how to follow the light. :)
