Thank You, Blogger

Raise your hand if you've ever heard of "Blogs of Note."

If you're like me, you might have noticed the little tab which appears on your Blogger dashboard, along with the "Blogs I'm Following" and the "Blogger Buzz" tabs. I'm pretty sure I might have clicked on that tab once or twice in the past, and when I did, it took me to the Blogs of Note page where a few blogs are listed for your clicking pleasure. I may have even visited a few of them but I never gave much thought to why there were there.

I've learned how effective it is to have a blog listed among them, when on December 30th, unbeknownst to me, Blogger included my humble pages as their Blog of Note for that day. The results were something similar to being recognized on David's Authorblog Post of the Day, but on steroids.

I started getting kind, warm comments from a few new faces. One offered their congratulations for being listed as a Blog of Note. It didn't click. When several more made similar comments, not only on my current post but on a few back posts as well, I took a look at my Stats Counter and found that many wonderful people (plus a few spammers and one irate anonymous troll) were visiting my blog at the astounding rate of several hits per minute. By the end of that day, I had 4,400 visitors and as I type this post, my visitor count has topped 14,000 in just five days. That's insane! But so much fun!

I've been trying to keep up with return visits to everyone who has left a comment (thankfully, nowhere near as many as have visited), but that's going to take some time. Until then, I'd like to thank everybody - from "the new kids on the blog" to my long-standing, loyal bloggie buddies for having such kind things to say about The Smitten Image. I treasure every one of your warm words. And thank you Blogger for finding this blog and deciding that it was worth sharing.

Should you decide to take a look around Blogs of Note, consider clicking on a few of them and leaving a comment. You might just make their day too.

Due to semi-popular demand, I've included a photo of the sink mentioned in the previous post. I was standing in the bath tub in order to take it. This bathroom is that small.

Here it is, Jeffrey's Mission Creep Special.

Below are a few photos taken around my home and Frank's place recently. Please remember to click on them to enlarge the images.

Our weather has gone through a number of changes recently - from bitter cold, to surprisingly warm for a brief spell. One morning last week, I awoke to find that a moody fog had crept in, and took up residence for the full day. (please click to enlarge)

Just beyond this tree, a busy freeway is cloaked in fog, rendering it invisible, though its muffled sounds were still apparent. (please click to enlarge)

The pond takes on a bluish hue when fog suspends over the water, and wisps its way between branches. (please click to enlarge)

A clearer view of some branches against the opaque waters below. (please click to enlarge)

Early the next day, the sun painted the sky with streaks of soft cotton candy and honey. (please click to enlarge)

At the creek near Frank's place, a blustery snow squall followed us for much of our walk. (please click to enlarge)

Outside of Frank's window, this Downy Woodpecker had just finished feasting on suet. His beak is still flecked with the fat. (please click to enlarge)

Back at my place, a young Starling pecks away at the suet feeder in my plum tree, bathed in that late-day sunshine which I love so much. (please click to enlarge)

At the side of my back yard, bright red berries still cling to an overgrowth from the next yard. (please click to enlarge)

On a rainy day, this rosy branch is moist with rain droplets. (please click to enlarge)

I'm not quite sure what it is as I no longer use Blogger, but it doesn't surprise me in the least that you are considered a notable blogger!

Happy New Year!

Hilary,
Very cool blog! Saw your blog on Blogs of Note and decided to check it out. Love you pics, colors fantastic, glorious subjects. I live in rural central Illinois and the weather here has been whacked out too, one day it's 50 degrees and the next, it's icing and blowing with a high of 22 degrees. Can anyone say global warming?

Well done Hillary! We knew all along that your blogs were outstanding! I especially liked these photos from this blog - your bathroom vanity, the single tree in the fog, and the woodpecker on a limb. - Dave

If I ever need inspiration for a poem, I'll only have to look at one of your photos. That is, of course, if you don't mind my words being born from one of your images? I am definitely smitten with your images.

Bee said...

I almost never click on Blogs of Note, but found you this morning. "Smitten" is a favorite word of mine - so appealing.

We have Authorblog in common; but then, so many do!

We had some patches of snow this morning, but nothing to compare to the beautiful snowscapes you picture. I particularly like your "cotton candy and honey" sky. Do you always get up early? (How I wish that I could convince my body to be a morning person - so lovely to catch those sunrises.)

All of these new folks are sure getting a treat when they click on your link! Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition of excellence.
I'm never sure which I am more smitten with - your words or your photographs. (OK, it's the photos, but your words are a close 2nd!)

PS: Does Jeffrey want to come visit us? I have a bathroom just like that one, only the sink & cabinetry leave much to be desired. Yours turned out beautifully!

Hilary - if anyone deserves to be included in Blogs of Note, you do! Congratulations!

Beautiful photos, thanks for posting them. We have feeders and spend many hours (indoors!) watching the birds feasting.

That first photo of the wintery path simply took my breath away, and I loved the lush red of those berries against the snow. Still waiting for snow in Ohio.

Glad someone from Blogger decided your blog was 'of Note'. Thanks for visiting my blog, we've got the same taste in blog layouts!

Congrats Hilary! I read your post in my reader, then clicked Blogs of Note on my dashboard, then clicked on your link for Blogs of Note just to have more fun with it.

Ah, more snowy photos. I love them, and hope you get mentioned many more times in Blogger Buzz.

Time to do some more clicking! ;)

• Welcome, and thank you, Meagan. Much appreciated. Thanks for dropping by. :)

• Thanks very much, Susan. And Happy New Year to you and yours too. :)

• Thanks for the kind words, Dottie and welcome to my blog. I'm glad you decided to check it out. The weather has indeed been crazy but I won't complain if it decides to warm up again. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks for the always kind words, Dave. Very much appreciated. I'm glad you liked the photos. :)

• Thank you Dinah. :)

• Thanks, Arshipx3. Much appreciated. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks, Kevin. Your always-kind words mean a lot to me. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thanks, Kerri. Much appreciated. :)

• Thank you, Tricia. It IS fun, and exhausting. But I'm enjoying meeting new faces.. or eyeballs as you put it. :) And very grateful for the regulars such as you. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Aww thanks, Jinsky. I'd be honoured if one of my photos inspired your poetry. You'd just have to let me know which one so I can read it! Thanks so much for your very kind words. :)

• Welcome, Bee and thanks for the kind words. You're right - many of us do have David McMahon's Authorblog in common. He's been quite instrumental in bringing bloggers together. In answer to your question - no, I'm not much of an early riser.. at least not as in out and about with the camera. But I have a certain Jack Russell Terrier who visits on weekends and his person tends to sleep in (I'm waving at you, Frank!) and so I head out with the dog and camera and occasionally he sits still long enough for me to get a shot or two. Thanks so much for stopping by via Blogs of Note. I hope you'll return soon. :)

• Awww thanks, KC. I know that I'm most smitten with the warm comments left by some of the nicest people in the blogosphere, and you're one of the best for sure. Thanks for always saying such kind words. I suspect that Jeffrey will be a tad busy now that he's back at school again, but we'll see what we can negotiate for his next visit in. ;) Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks, kindly Baggie. I'm sure Jeffrey will be reading these comments and beam accordingly. ;) How about you? Are you on the mend yet?

• Thanks very kindly MPM. Much appreciated. :)

• Welcome, Sizzie and thanks for the kind words. The birds sure can provide hours of entertainment, eh? I love watching (and photographing them) particularly when they're in late day sunlight. They're a treat. Thanks for dropping by.

• Thanks, Rain. Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you liked the photos. I did notice the similarity in layouts between your blog and mine. Great minds and all that. ;) Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thank you, Pat. Your kind words always mean a lot to me. And what a cute new avitar! Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thanks, Michelle.. you manic clicker, you! I hope you find some wonderful blogs that way. Thanks for finding mine way back when you did. :)

• Thanks so much, Leah. I'm glad you like them. :)

• Thanks very kindly, Sully. Much appreciated. :)

• Welcome, Ady and thanks for the kind words. Commenting is always very much encouraged and welcomed by most bloggers, so please feel free to speak up and share your opinions anytime. I'm glad you found your voice here on my blog.. now follow Michelle and click around to keep up that momentum! ;) Truly, thanks for stopping by. :)

• Awww thanks so much, Protege. You always bring the warm fuzzies with you when you comment and for that I am truly grateful. Thanks so much for always being such a kind and supportive friend. :) Winter has been so much better for me since I've been bringing my camera along for the walks. Suddenly it's become a favourite season. It's still only my fourth favourite ;) but my perspective has changed considerably. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Silly Frank.. I never say things like "good gracious." My answer was more like "But what would I blog about? I have nothing to say." And I would never just say "ok" to your orders of "Just DOIT." I probably just said "Nahh" and then went on to do it anyway.. eventually.. once I got the camera. ;) But thanks, my Sweetie. You did indeed nudge me in this direction. Now remind us how you got started with your columns/blog/blolumns? ;)

• Robert, it sure didn't take long for notification to reach me via the sheer number of people. That worked just fine. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thanks very much MamaGeek. That means so much to me. I'm glad you keep coming back. :) Have a great New Year yourself.. to you and yours. :)

• Thanks very much for the kind words, JC. Much appreciated. :)

• Thank you, Tootie. There are times I'd prefer to be seeing them from afar too.. but alas.. ;) Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thanks for the kind words, Jenni. Much appreciated. :)

• Thanks kindly, Cheffie. I'm glad you like it. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Thank you, DDF. Much appreciated. :)

Thanks for leaving a comment on my page. Seeing as I am very unfamiliar with the layout of my blog... I have no idea how to reply to a blog on my page, if you can at all. I may have left a comment earlier on your blog... but if not, I want to say that it was the first one I looked at and it is wonderful. Quite insightful.
Thanks again from an inexperienced blogger. It's nice to know the community out here is nice... if only a few people. ;)

Oh, and I rarely check my sitemeter but I noticed a big influx of hits from your blog.

I can only surmise that some of your 14,000 + people saw the blog title about nakey Internet photos and couldn't resist clicking over.

That bathroom is pretty creeptacular. I enjoy your pictures very much. If you're ever interested in being featured on my blog sometime let me know. People like you are instrumental in our efforts to summarize anything in one sentence. The pictures on the blog make up for the information we simply can't fit into a sentence, and your pictures especially are worth more than a thousand words.

Congratulations! And I love your snowy pictures.

And although my heart has been warmed by your faithful visits to my blog through the last few weeks/months of my being a blogging nightmare (erratic posting, infrequent visiting), now I'm staggered that you even did it in the midst of your new popularity. You are a gem among bloggers!

Hilary -- I came back to see what you said back to me (because you ALWAYS do reply), but when I saw 99 comments and knew I was wayyyyy down the list, I thought, "Oh, she won't answer all of those." But I humbly confess I underestimated your resolve. I am so impressed that you have responded to all of those comments! I don't think very many bloggers would have taken the time to do that. You are a special lady and all of those people will find that out if they are smart enough to make you a regular read. Good job, as usual, friend.

And congratulations to Frank for encouraging you to start blogging!

• Sandra, that's such a kind thing to say. Thanks so much for always visiting, commenting AND revisiting. That means more to me than you know. Thank you, friend. :)
