A Light in Dark Places and Posts of the Week

Just a quick word to some Google+ bloggers in general, and specifically to a new reader.
Hi Marie! You leave such lovely comments when you "flutterby" and I very much want to return the favour when I stop by to visit your fine blog. But alas, Google+ will not permit me to leave a comment unless I switch over to a Google+ profile, and as long as I can avoid maintaining two profiles, I will not be acquiring a Google+ profile anytime soon.

I follow quite a few bloggers who use Google+ but whose blogs do allow me to add my comments. But every now and then, there's one or two who prompt me to create the Google+ account in order to comment. And I don't. I'm guessing that there is something in the settings which will either allow or disallow regular Blogger profiles to make a comment. Perhaps it's just a small tweak to your settings?

I have tried to find some contact information on your page but was unable to come up with an email address so that I could let you know my dilemma. If you could please email me at thesmittenimage at gmail dot com, I could perhaps share my comments with you in email, if you prefer to keep your blog open to Google+ comments only. I'm just not at all anxious to create a second account to appease the Google+ gods.

If anyone who has a Google+ account, and who allows Blogger profiles to comment can tell me how that's done, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks.

Now on with the blog post...

Oh and for those who asked about my last post - if I thought the search and rescue which I documented might have been a training exercise.. possibly. But I don't think it was. It took place on a holiday Monday. Though it wasn't a national holiday, I think the Canadian Forces might keep their Search and Rescue team available for what was a very busy weekend in our neck of the woods.  Still, I can't know for sure.

Okay, NOW on with the blog post...

May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.
~ J.R.R. Tolkien

The full moons around here are beautiful. They defy description so I won't even try. Just sit back and listen to sounds of the loons, and enjoy this moonrise from early September.

With the loons in the background, your shots felt . . . otherworldly! Beautiful, and a little creepy, as befits this month.

We have the same moon here, but it is not nearly as pretty.

Thx for the POTW, makes my day!!

Great shots. I have been waiting for a clear sky for months.
To let anyone comment The Blogger has to go to Settings>Posts and comments and check registered user. You could check Anyone but you would have to be addicted to Spam to do so.

Fantastic full moon photos.
Thanks for the link in your Creative and Fun section. It was a fun little project to do and he looks great in my Fall garden.
I hate Google+ too, in fact don't use Blogger at all so I'm limited as to how I can comment, so set up a backdoor Wordpress account but it means extra clicks to get to my site, which is self hosted. So there are lots of places I can't leave comments if they only allow Google+ profiles. :(

I created a Google+ account but rarely use it. It was only to follow certain blogs. For some reason their insistence that I join them makes me mad, so I applaud you not doing so. I LOVE your beautiful moon shots! And I think I do hear those loons. :-)

Awesome moon shots!

Oooh...I do love that moon!

No wonder ancient people thought the moon sacred.

Seriously beautiful shots! Gorgeous! I have had the same trouble with Google Plus.

Now you have me singing "Shine on Harvest Moon"! But i won't sing loud enough to bother anyone, i promise.

Sharon Wagner said...

That is confusing. I've had similar problems in the past. But you have gone above and beyond to reach out now. I bet she will get a kick out of it when she drops by. I love Moons. They are my muse. Thanks for the sock kitten link up. Ha!

some folks are opting to go with the 'google+ comment form' - that is what requires folks to have a google+ acct in order to comment - google wants folks to publish their comment on the blog AND at google+ to 'drive more traffic' to the sites. (BARF!!!) i detest that comment setting and tell folks that - even as i have a google+ acct that i use only to +1 someone's post now and then.

anyway, i wanted to sing 'sittin' on the dock of the bay...' when i viewed your photos. off to visit blogs!

Beautiful moonshots!

I started off with Blogger, and allowed in Google+ readers, so it's kind of the reverse. I do occasionally find a new blog through Google+ and scan through the person's postings to find their personal blog.

Lovely, tranquil photos.
I'm glad you wrote that about the Google+ because I've found the same thing. Although I updated to Google+ not realising what I'd done, I never activated it and do not intend to do so.
Some times I can leave a comment but other times I can't so I guess you're right about some little setting that needs to be activated.

Ever so often, usually after I clear up my on-line history, I can't seem to operate in the old ways and must wait for some divine resuscitation to take over.

Pictures like these need no words. They are gorgeous.

This is an ongoing issue with G+ and Blogger since they've connected it been their kink for quite some time and I have no idea if they'll ever fix it, there is no setting for the fix although I wish there was then there wouldn't be an ongoing issue; however I have sent in yet another complaint but, directly to the G+ Blogger at G+ since they pretty much ignore their feedbacks here at Blogger.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful landscape shots and the moon is just breathtaking.

I so love Loons so much they're my absolute favorite bird of all, to some they sound creepy to me they play music, and to them it's just their way of communicating. ♥

Kat said...

WOW! You did an amazing job capturing that beautiful moon. Every time I try moon shots they just don't do the real thing justice. These shots were beautiful!

Rita said...

I know I am on google+ and I even add people who ask me most of the time, but I never go there and don't understand it. If my blog ever makes somebody go there let me know! I think of it as just another place out in cyberspace I never visit--like Picasa. I didn't even know I had a Picasa account until Google told me it was full. They automatically put every picture I had on my blog on there?? Sometimes I think I am too old for all of this, but I'd be lost without the internet anymore and try to stay functional, at least. ;)

I loved you pictures and could almost hear the loons!! Growing up in Minnesota, I have a built in audio memory of loons and Canadian geese--ROFL!

1. Agree totally with your words on G+ and dueling profiles and who can post where!

2. Stole yer Tolkien quote.

3. ADORE your photos.

4. Gee Thanks for the POTW! Surprising as I didn't know if that one would "fly."

5. Really, Thanks for being a pal in our bloggy circle!

Such great shots! I need a new camera with a better lens to grab shots like those..or maybe just a beautiful lake with magnificent scenery? Whatever! Yours are great and I'm so glad I could share in the moment!

Those moon shots are so good they make we want to howl!

And coincidentally, the huge annoyance that is google plus makes me want to howl too, but not in nearly as fun a way.

I don't do google+ either...Moon shots are GORGEOUS (I especially like the third one). Awesome choices for Posts of the Week; grand to have friends among them (& exciting to read all). Thank you.

I have a Google plus account which I never check or use but it does allow me write on certain blogs. I also cannot post on others without a login which I am too lazy to run upstairs and find the password. I also cannot comment on some Wordpress folks blogs because I need to register. I ALSO have been getting a virus blocked notation from a few blogs. Complicated!

Lovely moon pictures :)) I love a moon rise but it just happens within minutes :))

I have a G+ account, but rarely use it. It comes in handy for those who have comments turned off, then you can +1. I have a hard time finding and following those who choose G+ as their main profile. It's more time-consuming to find what you need, creating needless aggravation.

Looks like a fine collection of POTWs. Hope I'll have time to check them out this week.

Love your moon shots, especially the second one. The color saturation is just perfect. Can almost hear those loons calling...

AWWWW :)! Thanks, Hilary!

Oh Mr Moon, Moon, bright and silvery Moon.... Your photos made me break out in song, Hilary! You have the best views from that dock. I agree, I don't want to set up a Google + account just to comment. Today, I tried to give a positive review to a local business and couldn't unless I set up a Google + account. So, I E-mailed them instead, but I'm sure they'd rather have a good public review. What's up with Google + anyway?

ellen abbott said...

you have a perfect view for moonrise! and sunrise though I would never see it. I have too many trees between me and the horizon for moonrise but have a great view for sunset.

Indrani said...

I too had problems with that G+ stuff, but then got it sorted. I hope yours too is sorted out soon.

Great series on the moon. :)

Thanks so much for the comments on my posts.

Isn't Google+ awful? I've been followed by some scary people on it. I loathe it.
Marie is here.
Does that help?
Thanks for the ShoutOut. I'm still coughing...

That is gigantic moon. I wonder if the full moons always loom large over a lake? It's beautiful.
Thank you for the potw! It made my day!

First off, I LOVE those moonshots. Secondly, I have noticed this problem with Google+ blogs as well. I will only maintain one profile :)

These shots of The Moon are amazing! Reminds me of last year. Took a Yoga class only because it was taught by a beautiful girl from high school (who looks the same!). She was lecturing about things not to do during Full Moon and I managed to keep a serious facial expression! :)
