Watching A Sunrise

Watching the clock is not the same as watching a sunrise.
~ Sophia Bedford

I've mentioned before that our lake view faces east. This means that we are frequently gifted with some stunning sunrises. This late January morning provided one of them.

sun rising2
Dawn was breaking, like the light from another world.
~ Alfred Jarry

bird house
Veil after veil of thin dusky gauze is lifted, and by degrees the forms and colours of things are restored to them, and we watch the dawn remaking the world in its antique pattern.
~ Oscar Wilde

sunrise bedroom view2
Nothing is more beautiful than the loveliness of the woods before sunrise.
~ George Washington Carver

sun rising3
Dawn was breaking over the horizon, shell pink and faintly gold.
~ J.K. Rowling

And this one woke me up earlier this month.

March sunrise
Climb up on some hill at sunrise. Everybody needs perspective once in a while, and you'll find it there. ~ Robb Sagendorph

There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.
~ Bern Williams

On short cold days one needs to see the sun as soon as possible...but I think sunrises are wonderful any time of year

You're posting with the quotes again...my favorites. You have very meaningful quotes to go along with awesome photos.

Each sunrise has an individual signature to the one who views it for the presentation alone.....and you do such a fabulous job of sharing that presentation.

I love how the sky appears in winter, at the shoulders of the day, looking through bare trees. Nice shots.

I enjoyed all of them, but that first shot is breathtaking and deserves an award.

Wow! Definitely worth getting out of bed for!

You're proving that sunrises are as spectacular as sunsets (which I've not really believed until recently). Boy oh boy. I need to get my bum out of bed earlier. The first and second to last shots are stellar!!

Holy cow, these took my breath away! No way I'd sleep in up there! Thank you so much for sharing them with us!

Hilary, these are just beautiful!

No bears here. We've still too much cold and snow.
It was April 29th last year that we saw one.
I sure miss my lake. Thanks for sharing yours!

makes me want to get up and get out with the big camera to capture the sunrise here .. maybe one weekend .. weekdays i am trying to get it together to get out and to the office while the sun is rising

Our lake faces the sunsets so I am in reverse with you. Since I'm rarely up at dawn when I'm at the lake, I appreciate these incredible photos. Perhaps i should drag myself out of bed and take a walk to see the sunrise. (Probably easier for me to just stay up all night and see it then.)

The sky being swept with rose and peach - a great way to start the day!

You are fortunate. I can't find a proper site around here for either a rise or a set.

Now that is what I needed--colorful sunrise shots. We have been cloudy, rain, snowy, here so nothing like that to see for the past couple of weeks.

Your glorious photos brought a poem to mind that I wrote a few years ago I called ~
Essence of the Dawn

Luxuriating stretches reach the dawn.
A bloom of rising colour blushes dawn.

A moon-disk wafer swallowed in a yawn
Bestows an early blessing to the dawn.

And as the day becomes and then is gone,
An ardent sunset feasts in place of dawn.

Replete, the deepest shades of night are drawn,
And fade into a dream of moonlit dawn.

A luminescent smile reflects upon
Anticipation ~ essence of the dawn.

What stunning colours those skies were. Can't remember seeing anything like that over here, since I was a child visiting Cornwall and Devon.

The first photo is incredibly beautiful. Can you see the eyes in the clouds? ;)

Beautiful sunrise series and quotes.

I suppose no two sunrises, like no two snowflakes, are identical. But the one you captured and that J.K. Rowling spoke of must have been twins.

Indrani said...

Oh! Your sunrises are so beautiful! Fantastic spread of colors!

The power of light, overcoming shadows, with vibrant and promising hues. Great work, Hilary.

The sky is on fire: wow. Eastern light, like Northern lights, only more dependable I guess.

The colors, textures, and shapes in the sky are very, very beautiful.
