Tree Bling and The Posts of the Week

A couple of days after I discovered the red yarn featured in this post, I came across more trees adorned with yarn in two other shades. I wonder if someone has done this intentionally with whimsy on their mind, or if the wind brought it as an offering to the squirrels and birds for nest building. However it got there, it was colourful and attractive and begged to be photographed.

aqua wool
The tree on which this aqua yarn sits kind of reminds me of a pretzel. You can see the vagues criss-cross of the chain link fence in the background.

turquoise wool
Bright turquoise yarn twists around the delicate fingers of this bush.

cyan yarn
I'm pretty sure there was some orange, too but I do not seem to have that photo. Instead, I'll post another turqoise image. With its tiny knot, it's just hanging around. Let's move on, lest I keep you hanging for too long.

And now, without further delay, here are the Posts of the Week. The icon below is yours for the taking if if your blog post is named as a POTW.

I never find yarn around here... I believe someone is leaving that there for you!

I find that yarn you found interesting. I did go back and see the red. Sort of odd.
Cant wait to see your POTWs

The yarn is cool. Perhaps it's a present. One Mother's Day my friend's husband and son did some decorating of the woods as part of her gift. They made a tree arch. Then the next year there were all these paper rings around the bridge. I didn't find out for sure if that was another present for her, but it was cool.

Were I a betting Bear, I would think that the string is some early nesting material, given with love and whimsy.

Love the pictures. Thanks.

The yarn in nature reminds me of the environmental art of Cristo, only on an intimate scale. Very nice, and thanks for selecting Chubby Chatterbox this week. I'm honored.

Thanks for reminding us to see the beauty in the little things... and sharing some good stuff to read too.

How interesting, it seems unlikely the wind caught the yarn up there, it must have been cut to hang this way - I like the thought it's been purposefully laid there for the birds to feather their nests with (smile). Looks like you've found some more good reads for us again!

That yarn is new and surely must have been placed there by some mystical spirit in your woods!

When I saw that first image, I DID think it was a pretzel! You find the coolest things on your walks.

And, I was surprised when I saw that last post of the week...thanks Hils!

I think the yarn in the trees could be some lazy girl's approach to yarn bombing. Are you familiar with the yarn bombing movement? "Radical" knitters gang up on unsuspecting objects and surround them with brightly hued knitting. It's supposed to be a form of public art, I think.

Interesting. And somewhat mysterious.

I am sure the person who put the yarn in the tree had an objective. Maybe it is for the birds. Maybe it is just to be decorative. Maybe it is a memorial to someone or something.

We will probably never know the answer but it is interesting to wonder.

Hey, I made POTW! I have to tell you, your pictures of that turquoise yarn have been making me actually go so far as to look at DSLRs online. The thought of laying out so much money for a camera has kept me from purchasing, though. Your pictures are always astounding.

when i was a kid in Wisconsin, i used to loop lengths of yarn on our clotheslines for the cedar waxwings to collect for nesting material. :) thanks for the memory.

i'll be perusing these blog finds later today!

I saw similar decorations through a blog from Australia! Robyn seems to have started something that's now crossed the big waters.

Love those pictures! Thanks for all the good posts to explore. Hope you are doing well, Hilary! Sorry I have not been by lately.

Great photos Hilary. We have yarn on a tree in our front yard (red). It is from some sort of bird thing that older boy did for school several years ago.

Off to read some POTW...

The person may not have left it out for the critters, but i can almost guarantee the critters will take advantage of it.

Thank you for the mention! This is totally unexpected. Now i have to learn how to put it on my blog -- a good problem to have, i must say.

I've always thought it special when I see bits of yarn peeking from a bird's nest! I hope a lovely friend chooses those bits this year.

Ohhh, this is nice. Thanks so much for a POTW shout out. Can't resist talking about my pups you know. :-))

We will learn the purpose of turquoise yarn someday, I will watching here. And the photos are superb. Thanks for pictures of mine in the "Post of the Week".

I just saw a post the other day that showed a beautiful bird nest that someone found that had the most beautiful colors made from string and yarn. I'd be looking for some nests in the future if I was you!

SO .. it seems I dont read very well .. I must learn not to skim. I missed seeing Ray's latest toon get a nod as a POTW. Ray is not here to accept this honor so I am accepting it on his behalf and as the one who must bite her tongue every time he misuses the remote ..

What lovely colorful and clean yarn. Some bird is going to cherish it...just as we cherish you and the posts of the week.

That tree bling makes me want to go spread some color around here!
And for some reason, I'm growing hungry for a pretzel. ;)

Someone is using yarn to bring color to the outdoors. Interesting to look at and it must bring joy to the would be artist.
