Overnight Getaway and No Posts of the Week

Once again, I apologise for being rather far behind with my blog visits and therefore the POTW. I'll catch up eventually - I usually do. And when I do, I'll be collecting some great posts to share with you, once again.

I hate dragging you all out here for nothing, so I'll share three photos which were taken when Frank and I took an overnight trip to a nearby town. We'd been there once before and enjoyed it enough to revisit. It was meant to be a Valentine's Day treat but both of us were quite under the weather on that date, so we postponed it until a few days later. The bonus was that we didn't need restaurant reservations.

And the romance! How could you top the two of us propped up by pillows, coughing up lungs and blowing our noses which were buried in our phones trying to figure out the best letter placement for Words With Friends (a Scrabble-like game). Yeah, it was great.

I jest, of course. We had a lovely time despite not feeling top-notch, and as always, I look forward to our next adventure.

night view3
This was our view from the balcony. There was a misty rain which seemed more fog-like when we peered out at the lights across the Trent river.

across the trent2
It stopped raining enough so that we scarecly needed an umbrella for the ten minute walk to the restaurant. By the time we returned from our wonderful dinner, it had cleared some. Off to the right, you can see the downtown bridge which spans the narrow Trent.

lamp reflection
And this was one of the views from inside our motel room. It's the floor lamp and the interesting shadows it created, as I saw it reflected in a mirror on the opposite wall. If you squint you can also see Frank hunched over his laptop.

I should have some more photos for you tomorrow and hopefully the POTW will return next week.

Roses are red
Just like our noses...could have been the start of your Valentine message ;) Glad to know you both have recovered. Your first photo wowed me! It's beautiful. Lovely night lights shimmering on the water, and your inside light is so picturesquely delightful!
I thought of you during the golden hour today as I noticed the telephone wires caught and draped in the setting sun...like golden chains...and I didn't have my camera with me! I thought Hilary would love those! If you get a chance, come over to my blog and meet Quigley!

Aw, such beautiful photos, on a less-than-perfect getaway. Hope you are feeling much better.

Thanks for the adventure. I've always loved the Trent; there are so many possibilities of adventures.

I never feel like I've been dragged out here for nothing, you always have eye candy for us :-)
The concept of a get-away sounds divine, even if coughing up a lung or two. I hope you feel better soon!

Beautiful pics...love the first one. Yes I saw him hunched over there. I thought he was trying to stay out of the camera pic. Ha!

Would you have got those outdoors photos on February 14? Maybe not. After all it is only a date and it is the thought that counts.

I spent my last vacation with my head in a box of Kleenex so I can appreciate your plight. Looks like a very nice getaway anyway.

What a nice getaway!!

Everyone needs a break now and then. You made me laugh at the image of your intimate moments with your sweetheart and the kleenex. I am noticing everybody's header pictures now that I am working so hard to create mine with Pixelmator. I love yours, BTW. Always have. Simple but elegant.

You did a fine job with those night shots. The colours really warm the pics up.

Love needs no special day or reservations .. I am glad you had a not too wet get-away and brought back the pix as treats for those of us who stayed home

So sorry you both haven't been feeling well. I'm vaguely well again....four weeks of this and still coughing. Thanks for the smiles your images bring.

I like how your eye discovers light to be captured by the camera. The intricate shadows of the lamp are mesmerizing.

That first shot is so pretty from the balcony.
So sorry for you and everyone else who gets the cruds. We seldom get them.

That first picture is amazing. It almost looks like the landscape is on fire. Such brilliance. Hope you two are all well now.

Lovely night-time shots! But what is this get-away you describe?
We've been married 24 years and didn't even bother exchanging a card this year. (Actually, we were equally relieved that the other hadn't gone through the bother of making a card... so neither of us looked bad!)

I think I recognize this place - have you posted images from her before? It was also evening pictures I believe.;)) But then again, my memory is not what it used to be.;)
