The Seedy Side
Autumn is a time of abundance.
Birds happily feed on seed which Frank spreads around his place. This sweet little chickadee enjoyed the feast.
The creatures are quite cooperative and as soon as the chickadee flew off, this adorable chipmunk took over.
He wasn't alone. A few feet to the right, his buddy was getting ready to fill his cheeks with premium bird seed.
Nature has her own way of spreading seed around. This is the pods of the Indian Balsam flower, photographed shortly after a rainfall.
The lightest touch will cause them to pop open and scatter their seeds. This is why they're also known as Touch Me Nots.
Cedar seeds are very lightweight and by late September they're scattered all over the place with even a gentle wind. These landed on the frosted glass top of the patio table.

I took the macro lens out around the fields near Frank's place, one day. I enjoyed taking photos of what has become one of my new favourite subjects - milkweed seeds. These recently escaped from the pod.
I love its silky, white hair which glistens in the late-day sunlight.
Today's seed, drifting in the wind becomes next year's flower for butterflies, once again.

Since I am finally in a house I am now able to feed the birds. Outside my front window I have a feeder and see chickadees, blue jays, flickers and even robins. (I didn't know robins ate from feeders.)

What fabulous shots of nature's bounty! I love the fact that the dying colours of the leaves are also their rebirth.

These images!!!!!! Wow!!!! They are all fabulous!! The chickadee capture was fantastic. And the milkweed!!!!!!! Took my breath away!

THe seedy side is beautiful. Milkweed seeds are so pretty and your pictures of it are excellent.
I too love all the milkweeds.My mom used to use the pods in dried arrangements.

Milkweeds are such a delight to watch and to photograph and you did a great job of capturing them. :-))
we have wild petunias here, also know as mexican petunias. One fall I was watering them and when the water droplets hit the mature seed pods they would burst open and I would be bombarded by tiny little seeds. I also love the milkweed seeds. I've scattered many here but can't seem to get them to sprout.
Ah the milkweed shots are so beautiful. We had milkweed where I grew up and I haven't seen it in a very very long time.
My Nana was very fond of milkweed. I remember her stopping on a highway and sending me out to cut some from a big stand of it, also pussy willow and bittersweet, from which she would make autumn arrangements.
I'm thinking of a hymn from my childhood that I haven't heard sung in years... Seeds, Scattered and Sown ;-)

One of my favorite things about Thanksgiving (yes, here he goes again about that damned holiday...) is early morning. I start prepping the feast (making stuffing, peeling vegetables, etc.) and I drop some bread and maybe some nuts outside of my kitchen window beforehand. I then do my tasks while watching the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, etc., having a bit of a Thanksgiving feast of their own.
