Feeling Chipper

There aren't many faces that are cuter than that of a chipmunk, so you can hardly blame me if I go a little overboard taking photos of their adorableness, can you? They're rather abundant around Frank's place and the cottage. Coaxing them into photo range is easy - all it takes is a little seed and they're out sharing their endearing little selves with us, and in turn, with you.

C - You're a cutie full of charms.

I'm tired of all this nonsense about beauty being skin deep. That's deep enough. What do you want, an adorable pancreas? ~ Jean Kerr

I'm cute, yes it's true
I really can't help it
But what can I do?...

When you're cute

And I couldn't resist adding a couple captions which are typical of LOLCats.

And thank you for the noms..

And thank you for allowing me to indulge in all this cuteness. Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends.

We don't have chipmunks down here, so i always love seeing them. Agree Chip 'n Dale are among the best.

There is only one word for them: adorable! I love the one where you can see his chipmunk cheeks all stuffed. No, I love them ALL. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Hilary. I am thankful for your friendship and simply could not imagine not seeing your beautiful pictures on a regular basis.

I had to pause half-way through to take some insulin, but aside from that, I really enjoyed them. :)

These are just precious. Wish we had them in our neighborhood!!

I could say, Oh, how cute and I suppose maybe they are in a rat kind of way. But who likes rats? Not me.
I will say the photographer did do a right find job.

Sadly I rarely see chipmunks here anymore.

Yep, 'adorable' sums up these pictures alright Hilary. They are very cute little critters. Can you tell me, what is the difference hetween a chipmonk and a squirrel? Is the squirrel bigger? Excellent quotes - Dave

I love your little chipmunk captures! They are superb. I seem to have only one ... there surely must be more than ONE! Probably a whole nest under my house and only one has the duty to collect all daily sunflower seeds put out. Have a great weekend Hilary!

I love the captions. I guess once the critter's had his fill of the seeds that you so kindly put on that wood stump he's quick to scamper away: a real chip off the old block.

• Brian, sorry about that photo glitch. I'm not sure what happened but I re-entered the code and they're showing up fine, now. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Sandi, Chip and Dale are indeed a fun twosome. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. :)

• Ruby, thanks very much. :)

• MessyMimi, I don't see them at my place either but they've been visiting Frank lately. :)

• Thank you so kindly, DJan. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as we did back in October, north of the border. I feel likewise about you and your blog. Thanks always for stopping by. :)

• Lady Fi, thank you so much. :)

• Thank you, Betty. It was my pleasure. Your kind comments always evoke a smile for me, too. :)

• Elizabeth, I'm glad they made you smile. How could they not? ;)

• TexWisGirl, I'm happy to share my cute critters with you anytime. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Linda, you're right. It must have been an Amurikan chipper. ;)

• Thanks, Anyes. I knew you couldn't resist. ;)

• Scott, I never see them around my own place but Frank has them just an hour from here. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Nonsense, Frank. Just like that Jean Kerr quote.. you have an adorable pancreas and it can take care of all that sweetness on its own.. thankfully. ;)

• Barbara, they're a lot of fun to watch.. little busybodies. :)

• Grayquill, thanks for that. :) But they ARE adorable! ;)

• Thanks, Adrian. I appreciate the sentiment but our Canadian Thanksgiving was last month. :)

• Bob, I knew you'd agree. ;)

• Geraldine, thanks very much. I'm glad you enjoyed them. :)

• Jeff, thank you so much for your kind words. I suspect it's much the same for you. :)

• Daryl, fanks! ;)

Hilary said...

• Maggie May, I can see why people would want them but I can't see them making great pets.. then again, I only know the wild ones. Thanks for your visit. :)

• Steve, it brought them out of the woodwork, didn't it? ;) ALVIN!

• Dawn, Disney sure knew what he was doing with cute, eh? :)

• Larry, thanks very much. They're quite irresistible to photograph. :)

• Daniel, we had some freezing rain but we've escaped the snow so far. Today is a balmy 16C. I've been out wandering a few times today. :)

• Thanks, Red. That's a shame. They're such amusing little characters. :)

• Mimi, they're considerably smaller than squirrels but they're rodents, all the same. :)

• Thanks, Laura. They're irresistible, aren't they? :)

• Gillian, they get me every time. :)

• Dave, yes the grey (and black) squirrels are considerably larger and don't have markings like the stripes down the back. They also have a larger, bushier tail. Our red squirrels look much like our greys, only smaller (though still a bit larger than the chipmunks) and have a reddish tinge to their fur. They're also really bossy. Chipmunks tend to be friendlier.. quicker to trust and take food from your hand, though squirrels that work busy public parks will climb your leg for a handout. They're all sweet in their own way. Thanks always for stopping by. :)

• Gail, I hope you had a lovely holiday. :)

• Betty, they're alright, I guess. ;)

• Merci beaucoup, Pierre. :)

• Zuzana, now you make me wish I had taken videos of them. I'm glad you enjoyed my little critters. They're a lot of fun to watch. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Ain't it, Leah? :)

• Reena, if there's one, there are more. Count on it. Keep an eye out for them.. and of course the seeds. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Steve E, well thank you so kindly. Much appreciated. :)

• Louciao, they never seem to fill up. They stuff those cheeks and then empty them in their various hiding spaces for the winter. They're tireless collectors. And so much fun to watch. :)

• Thanks very much, Mage. Indeed we all did. :)

• DWei, it shouldn't be difficult. They love the deluxe birdseed. I'm sure you can do it. Thanks for the visit. :)

They are cute, no doubt there but I remember the year we were so overrun with the little darlings that we started a relocation project, capturing them by the score in a have-a-heart trap and driving them across the state line to a new home far away from ours!

Thanks for the explanation about chipmomnks and squirrels Hilary. Got it first time this time! :-) Dave

The closest I've ever come to a chipmunk is watching Chip and Dale. Ahh, how on earth you never fail to capture such perfect shots is beyond me, what a glorious collection of utter adorability! They look a little like striped squirrels, don't you think?

Jenn Jilks said...

They truly are adorable, but dumb as bricks. With three cats at our house, they have a burrow under my back garden. sigh
Fabulous photos!
Cheers from Cottage Country!

They are so adorable, they are so cute, they are so alive in the pictures, thank you so much my friend for letting us see the bountiful beauty around you and around us, sometimes many people lost the chance to appreciate such little creatures, but here you are, you brought the subject with enough charm, and not just that, with enough expertise! Bravo!

They certainly are adorable and you managed to capture it just so.

So nice! I remember being taught as a tot never to try and pet these critters because they bite! : )

yaya said...

They are very cute! We don't see many of them around our yard because of the cat..oops..she has a tendency to "over play with them"..if you know what I mean...So I'll enjoy yours!

Hilary said...

• Christine, thank you. They don't scurry too quickly when they're eating. ;)

• Thanks for stopping by, Friko. :)

• Rosaria, nice to see you stop in. :)

• Pauline, I can imagine that like any rodent, they can become quite the pests if they're around in large numbers. I'm glad that you opted to rid yourself of them humanely. Not too many bother to use live traps as a means of pest control. Thanks for that, and for the visit. :)

• Thanks very much, Sandy. They're hard to resist and I would find myself taking "just one more shot" hundreds of times. I had to get a few of them right. ;)

• Glad to hear it, Cloudia. :)

• Welcome, Shreya and thank you for the kind words. :)

• Photoioannina, thanks very kindly. :)

• Dave, good to hear! ;)

• Thanks, Shrinky. They're somewhat like squirrels but much smaller and cheekier. Literally. They fill those cheeks to near-bursting when they gather food. And to watch them interact with others is very much like watching Chip and Dale... angrily shooing one another away from their spot but politely allowing them to eat just a few inches over. They're quite the little characters. One day, I'll try for a video. :)

• Thanks, Jenn. I agree that's not the smartest place to set up shop. i imagine your felines have brought home a few "gifts." Thanks very much for your kind words. :)

• Prime Aque, thanks very much for such a kind comment. Very much appreciated. :)

• AC, you old softie, you! ;)

• Thank you, Indrani. :)

• Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed these little sweeties. :)

• Michael, that was probably wise advice but I can remember petting the very bold, tame ones at campsites where everyone feeds them. They'd climb right onto my hand and sit there to eat an offered peanut. And allow me to pet them. But I imagine their bite would be quite nasty.. like that of any rodent. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Yaya, sigh.. I know what you mean. My cats are mostly indoor creatures so I've only ever came upon them "overplaying" with a tiny mouse twice. Each time I was able to free it from them and put it outside. It's the only characteristic of a cat that I don't like. They're otherwise perfect. ;) Thanks for the visit. :)

lime said...

oh this made me grin! i love chipmunks and seeing these pictures made me remember how much fun it was to feed them from my hand when i'd go visit my grandparents' place in the mountains. :)
