Lookin' Up

How about a quick walk around the pond? Why quick? Because the squirrels are hungry, of course.

still hangin on
Look up. There's a lone oak leaf still clinging to the branch above us.

craning dove
While you're craning your neck, let's head over to the next tree to see the Mourning dove craning its neck right back at us. Be sure to keep your mouth closed while looking up...

peanuts for squirrels2
Let's leave a couple of peanuts on this tree. Stand back - a squirrel will be along in no time.

peeking
Look up there - right on cue. Don't be shy, little guy. We'll let him eat in peace.

Always Time for TH
As for ourselves, there's always time for Tim Horton's (you might need to be Canadian for that to mean anything to you).

Thanks for joining me!

That first one of the oak leaf is terrific. I love the color contrast between the leaf and the sky.

A case of less is more.....the squirrel is a classic.

I have actually been in Tim Hortons, so I do know what you mean.
Around here it's Stewart's....an upstate NY thing......and while it's a part of the landscape, people who don't live here just raise their eyebrows.

A nice stroll. In addition to keeping one's mouth shut looking up, a wide brim hat might be a good thing!

That is funny how the squirrel homed in on the peanuts. My yard has 3 residents that drain my feeders.I put out corn for them but their appetites are terrific. You have a nice trail system to be on.

Great photos Hilary! And Tim Horton's is infiltrating New England...
I prefer to make my own, though.

Love the squirrel. And I really like the positioning of the peanuts.
Good pics.

Good coffee translates into any culture, language, or country.

Enjoy feeding the squirrels!

Good advise about keeping your mouth closed ... and Tim Horton also is here in the US of A ...

The mourning dove must have spied something interesting. I will put peanuts in the trees and see what we get here.

Oh! Little squirrel eye...that one was my favorite. What a great post, made me smile. :)

I so enjoyed our trip in the park. Unfortunately, I didn't keep my mouth closed when looking at the mourning dove, now I've got cream cheese in my mouth. How did that happen?

Brilliant blue hues and clear skies. Whereas we had grey skies and early morning showers... and the sun is trying poke through.

Love watching natures avian and critter behaviour. You just never know what you're going to get.

Lovely images as usual, mon amie.

Good work as usual!!!
Now it's time for a Tim's.....

Ah, the old peanut in the tree trick!

Clevah!!!

I left a few peanuts today too, for the first time in quite a while. Only saw one squirrel and it had its hands on its hips and was glaring. I guess it had been TOO long since my last visit....

I'm always pleasantly surprised when I see a Mourning dove from below, esp in flight, because I forget about the delicate blue shading on the underside of their wings. Can glimpse it in your fine photo. :)

Great photos, glad you kept your mouth shut. Much prefer Second Cup (Timmies is vile, but great doughnuts).

Cricket said...

Ah. I needed a walk not on a treadmill. Thanks. Actually, today is sunny and warm... at least 40, maybe more. I'm feeling positively whimsical...

How about Peanuts by the Police. Why not.

My squirrels are the size of small cats this year.

We still have some oak leaves clinging here, but that's not as impressive as one clinging there! And ours aren't nearly as pretty. Love the one of the squirrel! Thanks for taking us on your walk!

The oak leaf, in such sharp detail against the blue sky, is really nice. But I love the little squirrel peeking around the tree at you the best. I would have liked to see a picture of Frank's glaring squirrel, though. :)

Do they have good coffee? Another reason to visit the beautiful north.

One oak leaf, that's amazing, and the bird in action is so neat! Really, start a photo book for us to buy!

• Thanks, Steve. It struck me that way too. I'm glad that I was looking up. :)

• Thanks, Adrian. I'm glad you approve. :)

• Hilary, I know that there are a few Tim Horton's shops in the U.S. particularly close-ish to the border. You and I both know that nothing beats Congdon's though. ;)

• Thanks for joining me, Sage. A hat for protection would indeed be a wise choice. :)

• Thank you, Sridharan. :)

• Thanks very much, Linda. :)

• Becca, it'll be here before we know it.. I hope. :)

• AC, that's the best idea I've heard all week! :)

• Steve, he was actually waiting and made his way closer as soon as he saw me. He knows my routine. They sure can consume a lot when their menu is on our dollar. Thanks for joining me along the park path. :)

• Thank you, Jayne. I'm not surprised that Timmy has entered New England but can they compete with your beloved Dunkin Donuts? :)

• Leah, thanks very much. The squirrel liked their positioning too, it seems. ;)

• Brian, thank you. I'm glad you got a laugh out of it. :)

• MessyMimi, you're so right about coffee.. though I think that particular cup might have once held hot chocolate. ;)

• Daryl, I'm just full of good advice.. or something. I guess Timmy has worked his way south. Are there some in NYC? I always thought they were all pretty close to the Canadian border. :)

• Di, he is. Cheeky, wouldn't you say? :)

• TechnoBabe, I think the mourning dove was just a tad uneasy to see me raise my camera right beneath him. And I was a tad worried that he'd splatter my lens. Neither of us are the brightest birds in the flock. ;)

• TSannie, I feel very lucky to have this park system right outside my door. :)

• Gary, people litter all over the place. This cup was not more than about 100 steps from a trash can. I introduced the two right after the photo was taken. Thanks for stopping by. :)

Hilary said...

• Elizabeth, I'm glad my squirrely friend made you smile. He did likewise for me. :)

• Ack, Betty. I'm hoping for your sake that the Tim Horton's fairy flew overhead to provide the cream cheese to go with one of their toasted bagels. Failing that.. here's a toothbrush. Despite that gag (literally), I'm glad you joined me. :)

• Daniel, thank you. We could be comparing different mornings here. Today started out much as you described but oh, so mild. I took a nice two hour walk around both local ponds today and it felt like spring. Merci beaucoup, mon amie. :)

• JarieLyn, thank you. They're pretty much the highlight of my day. :)

• Thank you, Pat. He's a sweet little thing, isn't he? Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Kristina, thank you kindly. :)

• Dawn, thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a Tim's for me too! :)

• Susan, yeah. It works every time. ;)

• Frank, I know that look. But I think the glare was probably more because you brought that darn, pronking dog with you. It's true about those slate blue feathers. Mourning doves are quite beautiful - just not incredibly bright. I'm glad you enjoyed the pic. :)

• Reb, thank you. I'm glad I kept my lens clean too. ;) I'm OK with Tim's but I'm not a big coffee connoisseur. I don't even like cream in my coffee. I opt for skim milk instead. I should just learn to like it black, eh? Thanks for the visit, my fellow Canuck. :)

• Cricket, I quite enjoyed my walk today (these photos were taken on a different day). I spent two hours wandering around the park system just enjoying the springlike weather. It felt so nice. I'm doing what I always do when you suggest a theme song. I find it in YouTube and play it while I continue responding to comments. I can't say I'm a fan of The Police - I think all of their songs sound alike but the title sure is apropos. I think the squirrels you're seeing are raccoons. ;)

• Barbara, most of the remaining leaves look nothing like this one either. It was surprisingly intact and fresh considering the time of year, and the sun was gleaming on it so perfectly. Thanks for joining me and for the kind words. :)

• Thank you, Linda. That little squirrel sure stole my heart. I can't help you with Frank's squirrel though. Maybe if you nudge him, he'll remember to bring/use his camera more often. I can't imagine why he doesn't. It isn't THAT big of a deal to juggle bags of seed, peanuts, a crazy dog and a camera while navigating the ice, is it? ;)

• Thanks very much, Glo. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. :)

• Lori, thank you kindly. I was quite smitten with him, myself. :)

• NotASupermom, that depend on who you ask. I like it well enough. Many do but some don't. But I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with a visit to Canada regardless of the coffee. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Karen, thank you. I'll give it some thought. :)

You capture so much personality in your shots! The dove and the squirrel both got audibly delighted reactions out of me. You know, I drove by a Tim Horton's today and they had a "creamery" installed. Wondering what's up with that.

What an unusual shot of the mourning dove. And the squirrel peeking around the tree.

Ah yes, Tim Hortons's. We should all get paid for the advertising we do for them. LOL!

And soon it will be March. You know what that is - Rrrrrroll up the Rrrrrrim!!

i actually like the peanut shot best. they look like they are talking to each other. (why yes, i am off my rocker, thanks for asking)

• Thanks BlueViolet. Timmys are every few blocks around here. :)

• Thanks, Stephanie. Tim's is primarily Canadian (named after its original owner, a hockey player who was killed in 1974 - ten years after founding the first coffee shop in Hamilton, Ontario) and has a few dozen locations in the U.S. As I understand it, several of those have closed down semi-recently. So they're certainly not as popular as they are here in Canada. :)

• LWK, thanks very much. I'm quite familiar with Dunkin Donuts. They have good coffee! :)

• DJan, thank you kindly. I'm glad you like my squirrel buddy. He's a cutie, eh? :)

• Thanks, Jillsy. :)

• Sandy, thank you. Have a seat. I'll pour you a cup. :)

• TattyTiara, thanks very much. I'm glad my photos evoked a vocal response. Tim's seems to have opened a number of Cold Stone Creameries in various locations. I imagine they'll be giving Baskin Robbins a run for their ice cream money. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Geraldine, thanks for the kind words. I do have a good camera, but I'm also a decent cook and I don't have great pots and pans. ;) Thanks for stopping by. :)

• KC, come sit, and I'll pour you a fresh cup of coffee and offer you a donut. We'll talk trash. ;) Thanks for the kind words, my friend. :)

• Thanks very much, Lady Fi. I'm glad you like my squirrel buddy. :)

• I thought so too, Amy. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Tammie Lee, I always do but I think they're onto me. Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Zuzana, my friend, thanks so much for your always kind comments. I haven't seen such blue skies here in a long while either. I think the golden colour of the leaf really helped to set it off. But it was a lovely day and I really enjoyed looking up. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Pranavam, thanks very kindly. :)

• Dianne, "peeking squirrel" makes it sound like a Chinese main course. ;) Thanks very much for your always kind words. You never fail to evoke a smile. :)

• Travis, "first I was afraid, I was petrified..." How about now? ;)

• Welcome, BlackLog. I'm kind of getting the idea that you didn't quite enjoy your Tim's experience. Thanks for stopping by. You made me laugh. :)

• Thank you, Bob. :)

• Thanks, Kerri. :)

• Wendy, is that promotion always in March? I never followed it all that closely to notice. All I've ever won were free donuts and LOTS of "please play again". Thanks for stopping by. :)

• Lime, thanks, but I think you're all nuts. ;) Thanks always for the visit. :)

Great pix, and I vote for the squirrel as best in show too.

And forget a picture of Frank's squirrel, I want to see a picture of Frank doing the juggling act you describe. (But I may not want to hear what he would say while doing it?) :)

• Shrinky, that's too bad, though logical that you don't have squirrels. I'd miss them terribly. Their antics are quite endearing. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Art, it wouldn't be pleasant, would it? Thanks for the kind words. :)

• Welcome, Yaya and thanks very much for such kind words. They're very much appreciated. You're right about the Tim Horton's. They are indeed donut shops. Though they've branched out to many other things over the years, they started out with just donuts and coffee. Thanks for joining me and please come back again soon. :)

• Welcome, Ruth. I'm glad you stopped by via Stacy's blog. Thanks for the kind comment. I'll look forward to see you when you do check in. :)

Thanks very much, Chery. Yes, Tim Horton's is a coffee and doughnut (among other things) shop. Most areas, urban or rural have at least one of them, and often many. Thanks for stopping by. :)
