Solutions to Word Play and Posts of the Week

Well I should have known that you are all much too clever to stump with a few simple wordplay puzzles. Some of you got many of them and many of you got all of them. Thank you so much, everyone for playing along. And a big welcome to a few new faces in the group! The correct answers are as follows:

1) West Indies (West in D's). That was a map of the West Indies in the background.

2) Forty Niners (4 Ts, 9 Rs). A reference to an American football team.

3) Three Blind Mice (3 mice without the letter I - no Is/no eyes = blind).

4) The Unfinished Symphony (no ending to the word Symphony). That's Schubert, the composer in the image.

5) Water or H2O (H ijklmn O - or H to O). That's some lovely lake water in the photo.

6) Hungary (Hung Gary on the gallows). Arrows point to a map of Hungary.
I have now published all of your comments so if you like, you can check them out at the end of the previous post.

The following brainy folks solved all six puzzles:

Fragrant Liar
Pauline

Jillsy (who was so dedicated to solving them that she visited five times!)
Eddie
EthelMaePotter

Linda (who got them in three visits)

Shammikite

Out on the Prairie

Dave's Wife Jill

Phyllis

Suldog
Pat

Thumbelina (no linkage request honoured) Hi, C!

I either have to do more of these or give up altogether. My angst wasn't worth the outcome, which, of course, I had thought was perfect. :-*
Fun.
But don't do it again soon please.

I tried but only got one by chance. It made my brain hurt! I am amazed that so many got all of them right. I love your POTWs and if I ever need inspiration, I find them here.

You were kind to include me among the puzzle solvers in spite of its taking me three tries in three days to get them all. I loved Frank's response to the puzzle. I can see why you enjoy hanging out with him. :)

Thanks for the POTW mention.

Sorry I missed the game! Although, my brain is experiencing a little temporary meltdown, so I probably would have failed miserably. :)

I think I'll visit one of your recommended blogs. Hmmm... which one?

Have a peaceful and fulfilling new year, Hilary.

I just realized that when I came here earlier, I flew off to read POTW, but never commented here. 14 winners ~ Yeah! It was fun, but I'm not sure how well I would do if they were more difficult!

Very creative Hilary. When I first read your word plays, I did not have any answers--I need to eat more brain food.

Thanks as well for recognizing my posts--I am glad that someone else is entertained by my clueless life adventures.

Thanks for recognizing my blog here. Last time I was nominated for anything like that was three or four years ago, and the guy who nominated my blog is dead now. I miss his blog. Very funny guy.

Mississauga is near Toronto, if I recall. My wife and I used to visit Toronto when our kids were young--CN Tower, Casa Loma, the Science Center, Royal Ontario Museum, Organ Grinder, etc. Our students from the school here made two field trips to Toronto and I chaperoned both times. Fun places around there.
