People Watching

I have a few series of images that were taken at last month's South Side Shuffle in Mississauga. It's an annual blues festival but this was only my second time attending. The music was wonderful but I got more of a kick out of wandering around with my camera snapping photos at vendors' booths and especially of people.

Here are a few from my people watching series.

concession stand
For most it was the music which drew them out there. For many, the food.

grim faceI thought this guy with his golden locks and grim expression looked like he walked right out of an action movie. I couldn't say which one. Maybe you could?

munchies
There were munchies being enjoyed everywhere I looked.

group fun
And many different onlookers sure had the music in them.

happy to see you
Some folks were greeted with great enthusiasm.

get your dance face on
And others wore their corny "dance with me, baby" expression.

hazel
Hazel, the mayor of Mississauga was there. She's been running our city for 34 years and during that time, I've seen her on numerous occasions attending various events. She loves her city.
She also loves to pose for pictures.

Hazel pensive
So it was a treat for me to keep my camera on her from a bit of a discreet distance and catch her at an unposed, pensive moment.

More photos from the South Side Shuffle coming up soon.

I liked seeing the people of your country.

You have a wonderful talent...capturing people with your camera.
As always, lovely photographs.
I need to take more liberties and photograph people. I am timid about doing that. I don't know why. I am a "people watcher." I need to photograph them.
Just lovely, Hilary....
Hugs,
J.

It had to be a wonderful wonderful time with the music and all these people. I love the photos and enjoyed this last two also. All of these people tell a story if you look close enough.

I am always too self conscious to do portrait photography on the street, afraid of what someone might say to me. It is a common problem with amateur photographers, I know. So, did you ask some of these folks or just snap away? Your mayor is a stunning person and it is written on her face in both photos.

What a spectacular day weather wise that's for sure. Love the two pics of the Major, and your pouting blond action movie guy...Maybe a bad guy in yet another new Die Hard movie? ;)

I wish I had the courage to photograph strangers like this. So many interesting moments captured. Hazel looks very approachable and seems to be enjoying herself.

I like the blues and listen to Holgar Pedersen on CBC all the time. Also CKUA has a lot of good blues stuff . So I like your visit to the blues. You are an excellent people watcher. I've heard and seen your wonderful mayor a number of times. She's an intitutuion.

Brilliant images Hilary.

It looks like a fun event, and to me, the Mayor looks a bit tired toward the end of the day.

People are uncharted waters for me. But what interesting faces you discovered.

We had our own people watching affair, the annual wine fest. The later the day, the more fun it was to watch.

Both of the pictures of Mayor Hazel were great! As for Action Man, he looks as if he wasn't too happy about having his picture taken.

Like the others, I wonder if a couple of the people knew that you were photographing them. And if so, how you had the nerve to get the shot? I don't know if I could do it. I'd feel like the paparazzi and be afraid of someone coming after me and my camera! :)

It seems we a consensus - Hazel face is extraordinary. All good shots!

Man, that guy...I think he was a viking time traveler. Congratulations on selling your home so quickly. There's nothing like a little positive manifestation to move things along.

Gosh, Hilary - glad you haven't captured me in an unguarded moment! I had to smile at some of the expressions. That long-haired guy might be the grim reaper in disguise.

Times like this are about the only time when I might become a street photographer. The crowds are thick, people are in a good mood, and one can be fairly discrete.

Once again, I drool over your colourful portraits and arty shots like the red leaves in the previous post...May your sharp eyes always spot such glories for us to share. :)

I love things like this. Missed them a lot this last year, but maybe next year I can march around again. :)

I enjoy seeing your people pics!

Love your choice of people to shoot! 34 years as Mayor? She looks a bit tired in the non-pose but her life is written in each wrinkle on the other shot. Very nice!

Love when you take your eye for wildlife and put the focus on humans, again you excel in finding just the right moment. Especially love that last one! She seems like quite a character, whether posing or pensive.

Hazel is a warrior... in a good kind of way.

Btw... that fella reminds me of a character... THOR!
