Patio Bob

This is Patio Bob.

PB again2
He's incredibly cute, isn't he? And he's also a smart little guy. Patio Bob lives under a patio stone in Frank's back yard.

PB window box
Every day, Frank or his older son tops up several bird feeders and scatters large quantities of bird seed throughout the yard and along the tops of fences, bars, deck rails and once or twice in this otherwise empty window box.

PB in the sunshine
It's meant for the birds, primarily but Patio Bob knows a good thing when he sees it. He goes from station to station, collecting all of the oiled sunflower seeds first. He fills his chubby little cheeks then heads back to his patio stone to unload his stash before returning for more.

The vessel which Frank uses to scatter the seed is a blue pitcher and sometimes a few inches of seed will remain in the bottom. Did I mention that Patio Bob is a smart little guy? I'll let the following photos speak for themselves.

Go to it, Patio Bob.

So, if you happen to see this cheeky little guy, please send him home. We'd miss Patio Bob's cute little face and silly antics if he were to stay away for too long.

I love these guys and feed them when I have them around.

Cheeky he is. And cute. And comical.

And destructive if he gets in the wrong place.

Patio Bob is absolutely adorable. How did he come by that name? I love the little round cheeks in the last photo. Actually, I love chipmunks in general. We saw a lot of them in the park recently.

Cute little guy that Patio Bob, even though he looks like he's using that blue mug as a privy in several of those shots.

Hi there - great pictures. I'm glad I don’t have to carry home my shopping in the same way he has to!

Cheers - Stewart M

Love that Patio Bob! He is one clever guy.

A very heart-warming blog Hilary. It's obvious from pictures you often put on here that you love all creatures. This feller sure is a cutie. Is he a squirrel or a chipmonk? We don't have them here - Dave

Patio Bob has stolen my heart! How adorable!

Hilary, we've not here the chipmunks but I see they're very smart guys!

haha he is a cute one....and up to some mischief i am sure....

Ruth Hiebert said...

Cute and smart at the same time. my guess is that he won't be leaving that place as long as the food is there.

Absolutely wonderful, Hilary. Love the way you cropped these. He's a cutie.

Bob's all-you-can-eat buffet! These are wonderful photos!

When I was ten or eleven I made a pet of these guys one summer. He used to ride on my shoulder everywhere I went. Then in the fall we went our separate ways.

My goodness but those cheeks can expand, can't they? Chipmunks know how to use their cuteness to take advantage of us gullible humans, for sure. Patio Bob has a good thing going for him with you and Frank.

A fun series of pictures to tell a story about a day in the life of Patio Bob. I think the second to last photo is really exceptionally good. The thing is, I don't like chipmunks or squirrels. I don't think they're cute; they're too rodent-like and pesty. But your photos, Hilary, almost (almost!) convince me otherwise.

These guys are not only smart but cute. They also have major flaw. They hoard more food than they'll ever use.
A very interesting photo story.

I can't decide which I like more, the Bob series or the poppies :) The chippies here are way too skittish to get shots anywhere near as beautiful as yours. The crop & color on the 2nd to last shot is fantastic!

Patio Bob is living the good life.

Love the second last photo with him on the edge of the cup and with the lovely background bokeh.

Ohhh he is so tiny next to the pitcher. Adorable!

What a cutie! Now, we all know him and will keep asking about him every time we visit with you, Hilary.

Shammickite said...

Patio Bob is very cute and cuddly and I hope he stays on Frank's patio and stays away from mine!
Actually there are quite a few chippy families living here, but they have got up inside the siding and that's a no-no as far as I'm concerned.

I HEART chipmunks. When Husband and I honeymooned, camping, we had a chipmunk that came and spent evenings with us at the campfire. :-)

Birdie said...

I love his packed cheeks! I once had a hamster that used to escape and steal cat food. One time I found him and his cheeks were SO full! It was hilarious.

messymimi said...

Love it -- we don't have chipmunks, and so i love seeing pics of them in action.

Barbara said...

Oh, I'm in love! Wish we had some of these here. The bottom two shots are my favorites!

Rita said...

Ah, the charm of a chubby-cheeked chipmunk. Just the sight of one makes me grin. You are so lucky Patio Bob moved in. :)

Mage said...

Yup, an adventuresome charmer. :)

Funny pictures, and nice text to the pictures :)

yaya said...

Hilarious! I'm glad he has no trouble getting out of that pitcher. We don't see many chipmunks around our house because of the cat. I'll just enjoy these really fun pics. You always get the best shots!

Gail Dixon said...

Oh my gosh, those cheeks, those eyes, that tail! Love him. What an industrious little fella. :)

Wendy said...

Cute little guy. I had lots of them in my back yard in Hudson. They were adorable, until they ate my lily bulbs - or maybe it was the squirrels. Never did figure out who dun it. LOL!

NitWit1 said...

Oh, I am so glad you live far from me because Patio Bob would be fair game for my dog Luckie--in fact her favorite fare.

Since we lost all our trees in a ice storm 3 years ago, very few come our way. If I see one I'll send direct them to Canada, because I think they are cute critters, even when they did in my flower pots and bed.

Dan said...

Has he become a member of the family?

Looks adopt-worthy.

Barb said...

Bob will soon need to attend Weight Watchers! ( Though he does seem to be getting a bit of exercise balancing on the seed container!)

Indrani said...

Cut fellow. I have one visiting me often.

not having chipmunks is one of the few reasons I don't like living way down south.

Crabby McSlacker said...

We have a patio Bob too! And a patio Carol, Ted, & Alice as well. Spillage from our bird feeder seems to be a big draw. Sure like them better than our patio mosquitoes!

Crabby McSlacker said...

Oops, and I forgot to say how adorable the photos were... amazing you capture his personality!

Patio Bob better be careful or he's gonna need to go on a diet!

It's so cool when one of the creatures who shares your neighborhood becomes a close friend. We have a squirrel (Fred, although we have no idea if Fred is male or female) who we occasionally treat with leftover nuts.

Sharon Wagner said...

We hand fed one of our chipmunks last Summer. http://sharonrwagner.blogspot.com/2011/09/say-hello-to-my-little-friend.html

We call him our little friend in our best Al Pacino voice!

That last photo of patio Bob is probably the best shot of a chipmunk I've seen. I love his cheekiness!

Patio Bob is adorable. I'd put seed out just for him. Never mind the birds! So funny. :)

Oh my goodness, got my dose of cuteness for today!;)) He is adorable, love those stuffed cheeks, hihi! And your images are superb - could you really get so close to him or do you just have a great zoom on your camera?
Love his name too - and I am sure you need not too worry, with such a plentiful supply of yummy food, patio Bob is going nowhere fast.;))
Have a great week,
xoxo
