Those of you who follow such things will have noticed that there was no POTW post again, yesterday. That's the bad news. The good news is that I should have one for you, next week and it will probably be supersized.
For now, here are a few simple photos and quotes. I hope you enjoy them. I'll be by to visit your blogs before too much longer.

“I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees. The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets.” ~ Hamlin Garland
"If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
"Nature is full of genius, full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashioning hand." ~ Henry David Thoreau
"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." ~ Lao Tzu
“The shadows now so long do grow, That brambles like tall cedars show, Molehills seem mountains, and the ant Appears a monstrous elephant.” ~ Charles Cotton
“Cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education.” ~ Mark Twain

Great collection of photos and quotes again. I'm in awe of the first photo. Beautiful sharpness and depth of field. And now I understand why I like cabbage more that cauliflower. ;)
Great photos and beautiful phases.
Such exquisite shots!
Had to laugh at your last quote.
Ah, lovely as usual. I love the last picture and quote, I'm still smiling. :-)
Wonderfully crisp winter photos.
Enjoyed the quotes as well...especially Lao Tzu.

Such a nice winter you are getting.
very beautiful pictures! and the quotes are as lovely as the nature they portray!
Beautiful! I love the second pic of the woods. It looks magical. :)
Hilary! I have shot almost the same picture as your first one! I saw those grasses at Busch Gardens. Does that mean I'm getting better with my camera,-to shoot something you did? :P I love the fir with the snow, too. Loverrrrly!
Love my Mark Twain! As beautiful as ever...
oh, wish you'd sprinkle in a few POTW now and again just to keep the blog roll manageable! but i understand if lack of time or internet access limits... :)
I love the last image :-)
Again, amazing quotes to go along with the amazing photos!
Really like the first shot of the seed head.
A theme could be made of each quote or each photo. I'm not trying to give you more work just a hot tip!!!
The focus of your shots stuns me.
Some real nice finds.I always like the dried plants contrasted with snow.
Your beautiful pictures do more to lower my elevated blood pressure than the pills I'm currently taking. Thanks.
All of these are so beautiful. I love those quiet winter scenes.
beautiful as usual.
Thanks for the Twain quote. These are beautiful.
You always make me smile. What more could I want. :)
Love the purple cabbage leaves and the pine with snow looks like home to me! I also love the "dead fall" trees that cross..beautiful pics as always!
oooh...that 4th one looks like frosty coral! Very nice!
"If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" ~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
I do believe Percy must be a "glass half full" kind of person. :)
Beautiful pictures, especially the snow on the pine bow and the purple cabbage.
Beautiful pictures and quotes, the one about the fragrant breath of the trees really stikes a cord with me because I love the smell of the forest especially after it has rained.
You're getting a lot more winter than we are . . . lucky! Love that purple cabbage and the rest of them too.
Ah, that final shot. Supreme.
I enjoyed you 'trees in the snow' photos Hilary. and liked Mark Twains quote about the cabbage/cauliflower too - Dave
I have no idea what that first image is of....but I captured one like it recently - my nephew nicknamed it a "fluff bomb!"
Thank you for letting me take a quiet walk in your world. I enjoyed it very much.
I always like it when I can literally hear the quiet of my surroundings.
Very, very peaceful few minutes this morning. Thank you!
Twain was right .. but that's an ornamental cabbage .. just sayin'
So you finally got some snow that stuck? It makes these photos very very pretty. And the quotes to go with are just right.
I like the Mark Twain quote. Gave me a chuckle. Your photos of nature in winter help me remember all the small things I tend to overlook.
Oh My Goodness - as Hope would say
the cauliflower is so beautiful
and the first shot is endearing, as though the sweet weedy thing is waving
decorative grass as Daryl would call it, she's so classy
Beautiful. Those are so soothing.
That's a very pretty cabbage even if it's the cauliflower that has all of the education.
Lovely selection, but the one before the cabbage is a stunner.
Lovely winter scenes Hilary.
The first photo and quote are so lovely, and you made me laugh with Mark Twain! :)
Oh so pretty :)
Oh what I wouldn't give for you to give me a photography lesson or twelve!!!
Your lovely pictures always take my breath away!!!
God bless ya and have a fantabulous weekend sweetie!!! :o)
Thew snow make such a difference. It is just cold and grey here.
Lovely winter image and quotes that match perfectly!
Number 3 does it for me. A beautiful green tree with winter make-up.
Love that last quote and pic! LOL! Nice collection, Hilary.
that first shot is such a gorgeous wispy thing. what is the plant above the thoreau quote though. is it a dried out ornamental cabbage?
The beauty of each season always shows in your photographs. The purple cauliflower is stunning, with it's snow/ice heart
I love them all, Hilary!
Have a very nice weekend!!
Michael :)
Your photography never fails to make me catch my breath, when I see it. You have the special art of placing us right there with you, viewing everything with the wonder of how you see it. Of course, you DO live in a very beautiful place.. (smile).
Harsh weather does make lovely pictures.
Can't help looking forward to better weather though.

Nuts in May
Haha - just read your comment on my blog. I thought it was hilarious that you used your winter jackets as kites or sails as the wind blew you across the ice while skating. How cold was that!!! Mind you, back when we were in our 20's anything was possible. LOL.
Strange to think you were here in the west island where I grew up (and am now living). I'm in Pointe Claire on Lakeshore Road. I'm sure you know where that is.
Hugs - keep warm.
Lovely Hilary...I am quite drawn to photos 1 and 5...but you know I just love weeds, sometimes to me they are more beautiful than "flowers".
Lovely photos but that last one and the quote are my favorites!!
These are gorgeous. They are winter, and they feel wonderful. Only you can make that happen!
Thank you all so much for your always kind comments. I will eventually get back to responding to each of you individually but until then, please know that I'm so appreciative of your visits and your kindness. Thank you. :)
fantastic set of shots!
glad to see the snowy woods on a shine-y day!
xo
lol at your last quote.
