One frosty morning, a couple of weeks back, I took Benny out for his morning walk. Everything was covered with a fine dusting of frost.
Old Queen Anne's Lace sparkled in the morning sunlight.
As did a few of her royal subjects.
One more look at the lovely queen and we'll move on.
A thin shelf of ice had formed near the shoreline of the creek.
And it got caught up amid all of the nooks and crannies of these little stones.
It was a cold morning and we didn't encounter any other creatures - except for this ice kitty. Can you see what I see? The butt end of a white cat - tail held high and head turned to greet us.

Very nice...
Greetings from Paris,
Pierre
Beautiful, I love the frost photos. We haven't had much ice, I miss it! Maybe March will bring some snow and ice.
I like the ice kitty, the coy little thing!
You and your camera can tease beauty out of the most mundane things.
Brr, your photos make me ccccoooold. Headed towards 70F today after a blizzard last week-end. Early spring perhaps??
Wonderful shots! And I can definitely see the kitty!
Yup .. If I turn my head just so .. I can see it ..
Nice pictures, but I was hoping for a glimpse of Benny instead of a kitty's butt. I did see it, though. :-)
Yes, I see the kitty butt. Lovely pics.
Yes,I do see the kitty and all the other beauty. Love that ice shelf.
I think I my have to wait until next year for winter...supposed to hit 70 F today!!
Wonderful photos. I love those morning walks. This reminds me of the children's book Dad and Me in the Morning. The quietness of the world before things spring into action once more.
Very nice selection, I loved the shelf shot.I have tried to catch that sparkle on the ice a lot recently.
It took me a bit to see the ice kitty. Only you, with your two cats and your wonderful imagination, would have spotted that right off.
Lovely! Only you could make the cold look this good.
Hilary, that first ice shelf pic looks like the ice is floating in the air! Neat!
You sure know how to make the best of it.
You bring out such beauty on your walks, it's always a great pleasure to tag along!
love the butt end! :)
Wow, i didn't know Queen Anne's Lace had such a melancholy beauty to it after the blooms faded. Thank you, and the ice kitty is cute!
the queen is lovely....but the cies steals the show for me...love the structures it makes...
your photos as always, are a delight!
You photographed a frosty wonderland. Even shriveled stems and seedlings look great coated with winter's white.
Oh, I am in love with the "nooks and crannies of the little stones" photo. It looks more like a painting (a very good one by a skilled artist) than a photograph (not that a good photograph by skilled photographer is anything to sneeze at).
As for the snow cat, it reminds me of the cartoon cats my father used to draw, always seen from the butt end. Ah, fond memories...
;-)
I do see the white ice kitty, although I don't think I would have if you hadn't pointed it out. That's why you're the one with the camera and not me.
Always interesting how you can make a great photo out of rather forgotten items. Usually I take pictures of the other end when the blooms are at their best.
Hilary, you can make the ordinary and mundane interesting and beautiful. And after you described it, yes, I can see the cat.
all so delicate and beautiful
Morning is the best time of the day for me. Lovely! I hear there is a snowstorm going your way; stay safe.

Mornings are my favorites. Love the ice beauty!
Gorgeous, gorgeous shots of the Queen Anne Lace, and the ice kitty made em smile.
The lovely way that you invite us for walks has inspired me to do the same.
Beautiful iced up around where you live. The last one is a Giraffe, the neck is to much is high, not a cats.
You are my second Canadian blog I plan to add to my list. I love the photos which is mostly what I do when I am well enough to be outside. But I am learning there are interesting subjects everywhere including my own hand.
I live on a lake and often fog will freeze on the trees and landscape sparkling like a Christmas card.
I love the shapes ice makes, you caught some very unique ones.
I do, I do see the white kitty. I love all your frosted pictures, especially the one near the shore.
It looks like the water froze in waves. Beautiful!!!
God bless and have yourself a terrific day sweetie!!! :o)
I didn't see a kitty, I saw a heron and in the top shot the log looks like an alligator
magic in every one of your shots
Yep I see the kitty! I love the ice photos the best!
You have the most beautiful walks with that gorgeous eye of yours. Spectacular! :)
Nice and chilling ;)
you really show the shots you see!

Brown theme here. :) Great pics.
beautiful, H :) btw, i wish your crusade against spam captchas would catch on, good GOLLY there are a lot of blogs with that horrible mess to type in order to comment....
I love the ice shelf picture and your fantastic captions, Hilary. Cheers!
Mornings like this are special for many reasons. One is that the light is just perfect. As you know so well, photography is all about light.
Another reason is that the light frost creates a sparkle that is accentuated by sunlight - the light is amplifying the ice crystals.
Certainly the air is crisp and fresh and that is invigorating.
Enjoyed your photographs, as always, and could really feel the crisp morning air as I walked along with you and Benny.
Yes, I see her!! :-)
I see the ice kitty!! She is adorable and so catlike!
There is so much beauty in your images. Beauty !! . I love the DOF. Its stunning.
The colors are just perfect for this time of year . Were under a heavy snow fall warning . We need any kind of moisture so let it snow.
Have a wonderful weekend.
I had to look twice, but I do see the cat's rear end!
Love the "kitty" and the Queen Anne photos are stunning. I like her Royal Subjects too.
Nice. Like the feline ice patch.
Another great walk with you. I just love these photos. I couldn't pick one that I love the most as they are all great. Looking forward to the next walk.
the photos of the queen and her subjects are truly exquisite Hilary!
Ice is nice!
These are just gorgeous. I love the monochromatic nature of the season. You are a marvel with the camera!
Thanks everyone for your visit and kind words. You never fail to make my day with your warm comments. :)
oh .... the frosty queen.... awesome!
Oh my, that frozen frond of water looks to be spun out of fine lace - what an image. I don't always relish my early morning walk with Jake, in truth I'm a sloth at heart, but having a dog does force us to do these things, and almost always makes us grateful that we had to!
love that iced queen anne's lace and the frozen water's edge.
I've missed enjoying your beautiful photography the past months. Why did I do that?
my hat's off to you, dear hilary!
loving your stunning photography!
I'm especially fond of the fourth photograph, as I really feel it captures the crispness of the morning. Thank you for sharing it, Hilary!
