Take Five and Posts of the Week

A few weeks back, we had our nearly-annual street sale and street party. A few homes participated in the morning sale, and still more came out to the potluck dinner in the court of our dead-end street.

After dinner, we sat around chatting and singing. There are usually one or two neighbours who bring out their guitars, and this year was no exception. I took this shot while one of the guitarists took a short break from strumming. In case you're interested, the music sitting face up on the stool is Sylvia's Mother.

And now, without further delay, here are the Posts of the Week.

Nice to see that Sylvia's Mother occupied a good seat for the occasion ;) Street parties are such fun and add a special family feeling in the neighbourhood! Lovely capture, and I will enjoy checking out your POTW.

Oh my goodness, there's a blast from the past! "Sylvia's Mother", I haven't heard that in aeons (sighhh).. oh, how I loved that song!

Another tempting selection here, some of whom I know well - thanks for the heads up, I'm off to sample a few.

When I was a child I spend a great deal of my summers in Prague and also outside Prague with my aunt and her (my fathers) cousins. One of them had a great voice and I recall him always singing for us in the evenings, as he played guitar when we sat at the campfire.
He passed away unfortunately a few years back, but thank you for binging back this recollection...
Congratulations to all those talented people mentioned here today.;))

Sylvia's Mother!

Oh, no. I know all the words to that one (and I'm the kind of gal that gets songs stuck in her head...)

Dang it, Heather. :-)

It sounds like you live on an amazing street. Singing with the neighbors is something I used to do years ago. I'm inspired to find that kind of community again :)

Ah, RYN: Putting a quilt together the new way is easy but takes some physical dexterity. Clear and clean a floor bigger in area than your quilt. I use my double car garage. Put the backing down on the floor face down. Tape it to the floor with masking tape. Next add the batting cut just a little larger than the backing. (You have measured all this in advance. LOL) Tape that on with loooooooong piece of tape out to the sides so you can remove them easily. Next, add the top face up. Tape that to the floor also.

Grab your giant box of BIG safety pins, and start pinning it all together from the middle out until it is all pinned. If you are tying it together, you need to pick your yarn or heavy thread, pick your needle and thread it, and run it through twice knotting on the back and tying it with square knots. Do this evenly spaced all over the quilt until it is secure and stop. Take pins out. Wash. Enjoy. LOL

Hilary- As always--great selection of POTWs! So fun to find talented bloggers via your suggestions.

I want our neighborhood to have potluck dinner like that!

Thanks so much for the Just Plain Good award. My blog mantelpiece is getting crowded--so much dusting to do--but I'm not complaining!

Your dead end street party sounds like a lot of fun. It's good to have a sense of community, especially if a potluck is involved.

I'm looking forward to cruising around the POTW community this weekend, potlucks or no.
