Odds and Ends

Below are a few random summer images which I scraped up from the edges of my hard drive. I hope you enjoy them.

buckets of colour
Our local liquor store sells these buckets as party pails. You can fill them with ice to chill bottles of beer, vodka coolers or pop, or if feeling generous, fill one with items from the liquor store, wrap it and give it as a gift. In either event, I thought they made a colourful picture, all stacked up in the store window.

wind chimes
Whenever anything stronger than a gentle breeze blows through, my wind chimes delight us with beautiful soft tones. It was a most thoughtful birthday gift from my younger son, earlier this summer.

a front step
Outside another front door in the neighbourhood, rain boots were at the ready for a muddy walk around the pond, or perhaps some yard work.

laces
Mismatched shoe laces on dark sneakers adorn a young pair of feet. My next door neighbour, Alex posed unknowingly.

slug
Frank found a tiny slug and held him out for me to photograph. A good subject for the macro lens.

twig
A simple twig caught my eye. I liked its bumpy texture against the smooth wood rail upon which it sat.

pretty sky 10
A dramatic sky reveals itself as sunlight sets fire to puffy clouds late in the day.

More photos coming up soon.

I really love the rain boots picture.

Colourful and glossy buckets stacked nicely at $11.95, too expensive.
Wind chimes, love it or hate it.
Muddy boots next to the milk jug... must be spoiled.
Mismatched laces and shrunken socks, needs a raise in her allowance.
Slug's mug shot... ohhhh that's bad.
Bumpy wood + smooth wood = wooderful
Electrifying sky... shockingly beautiful.

The buckets are gorgeous, and so evocative of summer. Love it.

That is the tiniest slug I've ever seen! Do they all start out that small? The only ones I see here in the Pacific NW are humongous and gross; it's hard to imagine them as cute little babies!

Awesome ... I snapped some 'pails' like that in Zabar's windows this spring ... and I love using the macro and playing with the focus ... sometimes I let it trick me into focusing on the wrong subject just to see how it would look ... foreground vs background ... hope the ankle/foot are almost all better

What's left to say? Daniel said it all. :) As always, the quality of your shots is amazing. The buckets make a colorful image. But I think the child's shoes and mismatched laces win this round.

Ah, Hilary, how I have missed your blog! It is going to be oh so tempting to spend time looking at months of missed posts here... but I shall try to resist, merely because I am lacking in daily hours spent at the computer.

The buckets. I want to pull out one of the bottom ones and hear the splendid crash!

The slug. Oh! Babies. We need them even when they are slugs.

Such colourful buckets! Oh, and I like that dear little slug. He's so tiny and sweet.

You really have a knack for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. I know I've said it before, but it's true! Loved those boots, sneakers, wind chimes and especially the sunset.

A retrospective of summer in your photo essay. The tiny slug is my favorite - so small it would almost go unnoticed but now is famous on your blog.

No fair! The only thing interesting I can scrape up off the edges of my hard drive are quarantined viruses.

And another vote for the awesomeness of the party pails!
