As I continue with summer hours (random, varied and generally irregular), I am visiting less frequently and so I collect fewer than usual Posts of the Week. Wednesday's POTW will persist on being fitful as well. I hope you understand and that you're all enjoying your summer (or winter, for those of you in the southern hemisphere).
After this weekend, I'll be back at the cottage for about a week, and I'm not sure if I'm going to schedule any or many posts. I'll have to see what happens between now and departure time.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy a few of the cottage sunsets as we saw them on various nights of our last visit up there.
After a day of cloud and wind and rain
Sometimes the setting sun breaks out again,
And touching all the darksome woods with light,
Smiles on the fields until they laugh and sing,
Then like a ruby from the horizon's ring,
Drops down into the night.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,
It is almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream.
~ Bern Williams
Give me the splendid silent sun at sunset.
~ Walt Whitman
“The sky broke like an egg into full sunset and the water caught fire.”
~ Pamela Hansford Johnson
Softly the evening came. The sun from the western horizon
Like a magician extended his golden want o'er the landscape;
Trinkling vapors arose; and sky and water and forest
Seemed all on fire at the touch, and melted and mingled together.
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
At sunset, Nature is painting for us... day after day... pictures of infinite beauty.
~ John Ruskiin
Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.
~ Rabindranath Tagore

I would spend as much time there as possible, too.
I love the first and the penultimate one.........What are the sun beams called? Corollary I think.
All in all a very enjoyable set.
just beautiful. thanks for sharing them with us.
Love the deck chairs and sunset.
Had a brief trip a few weeks ago where I actually got to enjoy a sunrise. I'll have to makes sure I block time for the sunset as well next time.
With those sunsets, how can you bear to leave? Gosh it's breathtaking there.
just glorious, what more can i say :)
"Infinite beauty" These photos are beyond words, Hilary.
Fabulous photos. The lake is gorgeous at sunset. It indeed does look like the sky is on fire. I spent this past weekend at a lake with friends and it was really nice in spite of the extreme heat.
Every shot is truly spectacular.
such a colorful array of sunsets to bid you farewell to your days at the lake!
Lovely, lovely, lovely!
A beautiful collection.
Scenes in which to drown and and wash the spirit clean of all the debris of the day.
What gorgeous photos, I especially love that last one with the chairs poised and waiting... :) Have a wonderful time at the cottage, summer is definitely a time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Bring back some more fabulous photos please! :)

Each one more breathtaking than the previous - if that's possible!!
I hope to one day take photographs as beautiful as yours Hilary.
Absolutely breathtaking. Love the post title's homage to Walt Whitman.
Isn't it amazing how many different colors a sunset can be? These are just glorious. And that Longfellow certainly had a way with words, didn't he?
What an excellent collection! The colors in that third photo just blow me away! Beautiful.
Yowsa! Those are amazing shots! That last one just takes my breath away. :)

You may post more sunset shots any day! Thank you and enjoy every moment of summer!
Beautiful.
Beautiful sunsets. The only thing better would be to be there and see them in person.
Hilary, thank you. You've just given sustenance to my soul.
Looking at these pictures, I found myself breahting deeply and slowly, yoga-style, and just drinking in the beauty of it.
The last quote is one of my all-time favourites, and your susnet is perfect with it.
I'd also like to propose Ciara's blog Milkmoon whenever you're doing POTW again.
Agree with the others, it would be magnificent to live where i could see such a sunset daily.
Heaven on earth. I wouldn't worry one moment about anything else than enjoying that! I wish I could come for a visit!!
They leave me wordless. Also breathless.

Going back to the cottage? Sounds fishy to me. So to speak. :)
Those are all magnificent, but particularly the first one. Wow. Great shot!

Wow - what spectacular skies! Enjoy your LIFE... plenty of time for blogging in the bad weather...
If I could take pictures the quality of these I would only put one or two on each post and would get several posts out of the lot. They are all so beautiful I can't like one more than the other.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Stunning skies.
Simply glorious stuff.
my goodness you experienced gorgeous sunsets!!
Summer can be a busy time, a time to play and to get things done before winter arrives.
Wishing you wonderful days and nights.
Thanks very much for such kind and encouraging comments everyone. Your visits, despite my own infrequent stopovers truly make my day.
I'll be scheduling a few posts (including a POTW) for the week that I'll be away. I hope to catch up again upon my return.
See you all in about a week.. ish. :)
Those gorgeous sunset tones warm my heart.

Those sunsets and the quotes together are magic. It is indeed impossible to watch a sunset and not dream. A dreamy post, to be sure.
I could be very happy spending the day and evening in one of those chairs at the end of the dock-- It's paradise :-)
