Foliage, Flowers and Feathers. What did you think the F words were?
You might think these are autumn leaves but they're not. They belong on Frank's Red Maple tree in his back yard. The colours are beautiful, particularly when the sun is shining through them from behind.
Out in the fields, ferns have unfurled to reveal lovely, lacy patterns.
A gull, unsuccessful in catching a fish, pond water still dripping from its beak.
Bleeding hearts. I never tire of seeing Nature's little love flower.
Another red leaf from the Red Maple tree, late in the evening, just before dark.
A mystery bird. This little cutie was sitting on the boulevard just as we were heading out for a walk. I think it's a juvenile but I have no idea which kind of bird it is. Can anyone please help with this?
And speaking of mysteries, I have no idea what kind of flower this is but I liked how it looked in the near-dark.
A beautiful Eastern Kingbird posed perfectly atop a high branch.
The brilliant red feathers of red-winged blackbird as he comes in for a landing.
Thanks for joining me in exploring a few F words. They're be more photos coming up real soon.

betty
loving your blog.
lovely...what a great capture of the bleeding heart...very nice hilary
Fantastic!
A very nice set of pics today.
I would guess your mystery bird is a starling, or if you prefer, to keep it in the "F words," a ftarling.
So much beauty in the details, isn't there?
I love the maple leaves just before dark, and the red-winged blackbird is . . . ftellar! :-P
This set of pictures is amazing. The backlit leaves and the sweet Bleeding Heart,oh my,I can't pick a favourite but love them all.
every photo is glorious. i love every one of them. the play of sun and shadow amongst them is just Fantastic! you have such a gift.
and i agree, that might be a starling. my second guess might be a young cowbird.
The fern shot is awesomeness unfurled!
Love it.
Di
No idea about the parentage of the bird, but those backlit pictures take my breath away. I am amazed at your camera eye, Hilary, and again bow to your ability to make me gasp!
I really love the water droplets falling from the seagull's beak. Have an awesome Sunday Hilary :-)
I never tire of your photos.
I love tress with those red leaves. there are a couple of streets here in S'ville with fully grown red leaved maples lining them, lovely in the sunlight and especially lovely in the spring.
Please wish frank a Happy Father's Day from me!
Lovely shots!
Based on the wing feathers - that looks like a juvenile starling.
: )
Great shots! What wonderful detail! The fourth F word: Fantastic!!
The bird looks like the baby grackles that to us look like they should be teenager grackles but they are still fluttering their wings and opening their mouths and want one of their parent grackles to feed them. The babies are capable of getting around and finding food but they are hanging on as long as possible to get their parents to take care of them.
I am inclined toward a juvenile starling, but I'm not the pro around here. I love all of the photos, Hilary. Amazing capture on the gull.
F words! Like Fotos!
Some Freckles would be nice, as well!
Love that gull shot!
that seagull capture is brilliant!
All great photos ... I was thinking the bird was a cowbird ... looks similar to the ones in my backyard ..but not enough brown on him yet if it is
Lovely shots Hilary. Gorgeous shoulder pads on the blackbird, remember when those were fashion forward for us women? Yikes!
I think the bird is a grackle.
These photos are wonderful! I especially love the maple leaves. The color and light are incredible. Sorry, I don't know what that one bird is, but it does appear to be a young'un.
When i saw the title, i assumed flowers, and i'm glad you had even more!
Those maple leaves are spectacular! I did think they were autumn leaves. And that gull with water dripping from his beak - you truly are a wiz with the camera.
Fun F-words For Father's Day! LOL!
I love the images.. I have a maple but not red and did shoot it this week and hearts.. Hilary ..I love your images. Stunning . So much beauty here.

Nice shots. My dad has two large maples in his back yard. They truly are beautiful trees.
Thank you for the kind words, everyone. They're very much appreciated. It's nice to see some new faces and it's always wonderful to see those who return time and time again. Thank you all for helping me to identify the baby bird. Looking through Google images, it does indeed appear to be a baby starling during one of its many stages of development. I appreciate the help. :)
Great photos Hilary.
Unfortunately, the last post I responded to on another blog has was about an F word that relates to natural gas--so I think I like your terms better.
Those are some very fine f words.
You find such beauty to photograph, and your photographs seem to make things even more beautiful, if that's possible.
A lovely knew perspective on the F words. Love the Fern! :)
That seagull photo is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks kindly, everyone. :)
Love the fern and the light...the sun shines like that through my Cornish Rex cats ears...I will post a pix sometime.
That photograph is exactly the image of bleeding hearts that I have tried for the past 3 years to acquire. BEAUTIFUL!
Obviously, I need a better camera (and a steadier hand).
Truly, Hilary, you ought to publish a book with your photographs and words. Your blog title would be an excellent book title and I know many of us would line up to purchase such a treasure!
the shot of that unnamed flower really is quite striking!
