Summer Rain

Summer rain taps at my window
West wind soft as a sweet dream
(performed by) Johnny Rivers

Thank you to everyone for your very sweet comments and good wishes on my previous post. And thanks especially to those who have stuck with me through the years, to those who commented for the first time and every fine one of you in between.

These photos were taken at different stages of different rainy days. The names after the song quotes are those of the performers and not of the lyricists.

rainy lake
Someone told me long ago there's a calm before the storm
I know, it's been comin' for some time
When it's over, so they say, it'll rain a sunny day
I know, shinin' down like water
~ Creedence Clearwater Revival

a hard rain
Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
~ Eurythmics

a bit of rain
Long as I remember the rain been comin' down
Clouds of mystery pourin' confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages tryin' to find the sun.
And I wonder still I wonder who'll stop the rain.
~ Creedence Clearwater Revival

weather started getting rough
Listen to the mandolin rain,
Listen to the music on the lake
~ Bruce Hornsby

rainybow
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
~ Judy Garland

post rain loveliness
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day
~ Johnny Nash

iris after the rain
You and me and rain on the roof
Caught up in a summer shower
Drying while it soaks the flowers
Maybe we'll be caught for hours
Waiting out the sun
~ The Lovin' Spoonful

rainbow
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbows are visions
But only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide...

rainbow3
So we've been told
And some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see
Some day we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me
~ Kermit the Frog

vibrant sunset in the east
I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
~ Gene Kelly

More photos coming up soonish.

These are INCREDIBLE captures. It's hard to capture rain in a photo, but you really did a magnificent job of it :)

We've had a lot of rain this Summer...a lot of our driveway washing away! I just had to visit to see how you captured rain in your part of the world. Beautifully as always! I need to see more rainbows in my rainy days instead of stones on the road! Have a good week!

Love your creativity photos and poetry. You make research and your blog so darned much fun. S. Calif. gets almost no rain so this is SUCH a treat! Do you get great thunder and lightening, too? Thanks for sharing with us.

Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.

I'll bet they're more coming up. there are many songs and poems about rain. Do you take requests? How about I Love Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbit?
I think you've started a new idea with various themes.

"Every time it rains, it rains acid from heaven." ~ Anon.

Sad story, but true. Which is why so many lakes are having a bad time sustaining wildlife.

You, however, have looked past that unfortunate reality with some wonderful pictures of a rainy day.

Thanks.

Blessings and Bear hugs!

Gorgeous, Hilary.

We had a storm come in that brought some needed rain and lower temps and it was good. Not the storm, though. What it brought!

Slamdunk said...

Though the rain can be a temporary damper on our fun, your beautiful photos illustrate the rewards.

With the cooler temps, we have been able to listen to more rain storms lately; definitely a perk. And, rainbows like those you captured are always welcomed by us.

I remember a terrific and terrible Canada rain we got caught in while staying in a fishing camp up there. Even the loon took shelter by our canoe! These are beautiful photos, and each one slightly different.

Exquisite series Hilary… it has been raining on and off here the past week or so. Some very heavy down pours and the rain and sun mingling. I've not spotted any rainbows, but I'm sure they've been around. Yours are beautiful, filled with hope.

You have certainly had a lot of opportunities just recently to take pictures of the rain. What a strange summer it's been, lots of cloud and sudden rain, and those lovely cool nights when I can sleep with the windows open and there's no constant hummmmmm of neighbourhood air conditioners.
And your rain pictures are lovely. The rain advancing across the lake... an amazing sight and sound!

As much as we need the rain, I hate that it keeps the kids indoors during the summer.

While we receive only 6 inches of rain in Arizona, today we are actually under a "flash flood alert", which is amusing. But what a timely visit! Have a nice weekend, Hilary!

Your view of the lake as the rain approaches is wonderful. I like how the view slowly recedes and then appears again as the rain stops.

Every photo is a piece of heaven but the last one just takes my breath away. Simply gorgeous.
Oh do we need the rain!
No rain for so long and drought conditions, plants and grass slowly wilting...not good.
You have such a perfect spot to watch the storms come and go.

Linda said...

Wow, Hilary, that was some rain. I love the way you photographed the progression, culminating in that beautiful sunset. Was this the same storm that produced the hail in your videos?
