Summer rain taps at my window
West wind soft as a sweet dream
(performed by) Johnny Rivers
Thank you to everyone for your very sweet comments and good wishes on my previous post. And thanks especially to those who have stuck with me through the years, to those who commented for the first time and every fine one of you in between.West wind soft as a sweet dream
(performed by) Johnny Rivers
These photos were taken at different stages of different rainy days. The names after the song quotes are those of the performers and not of the lyricists.
Someone told me long ago there's a calm before the storm
I know, it's been comin' for some time
When it's over, so they say, it'll rain a sunny day
I know, shinin' down like water
~ Creedence Clearwater Revival
Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
~ Eurythmics
Long as I remember the rain been comin' down
Clouds of mystery pourin' confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages tryin' to find the sun.
And I wonder still I wonder who'll stop the rain.
~ Creedence Clearwater Revival
Listen to the mandolin rain,
Listen to the music on the lake
~ Bruce Hornsby
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
~ Judy Garland
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day
~ Johnny Nash
You and me and rain on the roof
Caught up in a summer shower
Drying while it soaks the flowers
Maybe we'll be caught for hours
Waiting out the sun
~ The Lovin' Spoonful
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side
Rainbows are visions
But only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide...
So we've been told
And some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see
Some day we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me
~ Kermit the Frog
I'm singing in the rain
Just singing in the rain
What a glorious feelin'
I'm happy again
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above
The sun's in my heart
And I'm ready for love
~ Gene Kelly

Another interesting set.
I really enjoyed the fifth one with the rainbow.
We had much needed rain yesterday also. You captured some great photos of rain over the lake.
These are INCREDIBLE captures. It's hard to capture rain in a photo, but you really did a magnificent job of it :)
You can't possibly ever get sick of that view. It is incredible.
Magnificent series, Hilary. I stared at the pictures and felt myself transported into them. They are wonderful. Thank you so much, Ms. Talented One. :-)
that last shot was my fav, very nice
As a Rayner, I approve this post. :)
We've had a lot of rain this Summer...a lot of our driveway washing away! I just had to visit to see how you captured rain in your part of the world. Beautifully as always! I need to see more rainbows in my rainy days instead of stones on the road! Have a good week!
Especially on a rainy day, it is heavenly!
I was hoping for a rainbow, gorgeous pictures ALL, what a place to live in!
Wonderful shots...especially the rainbow!
-- Goa fun!
Love your creativity photos and poetry. You make research and your blog so darned much fun. S. Calif. gets almost no rain so this is SUCH a treat! Do you get great thunder and lightening, too? Thanks for sharing with us.
love these. I can smell the rain and feel the refreshing feeling. Happy Rainbows.....

I can never get enough rainbow pictures. Thanks for sharing these.
I just love the misty, rainy pictures. It stirs a deep lake of melancholy in me.
Hilary, I have trouble reading he new font. I’m not expecting you to change it for my sake, just saying.
Great songs! Especially CCR. What word above great can I use for these photos? Sensational! Yeah, that's it. Have a great week!
it is only after the rain that we get the rainbow...the sun is finally out here today...and the world might warm up just a bit....have a wonderful day.
i mistakenly thought the lyrics to this were 'Summer rain, makes me feel fine ….
but its not, its
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind.
oh well
lovely rainy photos and even lovelier rainbows
I'll bet they're more coming up. there are many songs and poems about rain. Do you take requests? How about I Love Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbit?
I think you've started a new idea with various themes.
Lovely pictures of rain!
Thank you for including Kermit's song! Your view is ever lovely, in all moods and lights and weathers.
"Every time it rains, it rains acid from heaven." ~ Anon.
Sad story, but true. Which is why so many lakes are having a bad time sustaining wildlife.
You, however, have looked past that unfortunate reality with some wonderful pictures of a rainy day.
Thanks.
Blessings and Bear hugs!
May just be the Best Blog Post of ALL TIME!
This is the platonic ideal of a post! I'm gobsmacked by every pic, and heard every song in my head.
I adore you

These are wonderful, Hilary!
I especially love the photograph of the rain.
I can almost hear it.
Well executed on all levels, and this CCR fans is purring.
Gorgeous, Hilary.
We had a storm come in that brought some needed rain and lower temps and it was good. Not the storm, though. What it brought!
Though the rain can be a temporary damper on our fun, your beautiful photos illustrate the rewards.
With the cooler temps, we have been able to listen to more rain storms lately; definitely a perk. And, rainbows like those you captured are always welcomed by us.
Oh my goodness! This is a beautiful set of pictures. I love the rainy shots and then the rainbow and finally those gorgeous clouds.Wow!
Cleansing and refreshing... I feeel good!
Merci
I love these gorgeous, rainy pictures! I wish it would rain here in Santa Barbara so that I could capture some rainy images! :)
I remember a terrific and terrible Canada rain we got caught in while staying in a fishing camp up there. Even the loon took shelter by our canoe! These are beautiful photos, and each one slightly different.
Exquisite series Hilary… it has been raining on and off here the past week or so. Some very heavy down pours and the rain and sun mingling. I've not spotted any rainbows, but I'm sure they've been around. Yours are beautiful, filled with hope.
Wow- awesome shots. And CCR, well..nuf said..CCR rocks.
Absolutely dead on Hilary, the scenery are superb, and the songs, you can't beat them.
What a beautiful part of the world...
Happy blogiversary, Hilary!!

You have certainly had a lot of opportunities just recently to take pictures of the rain. What a strange summer it's been, lots of cloud and sudden rain, and those lovely cool nights when I can sleep with the windows open and there's no constant hummmmmm of neighbourhood air conditioners.
And your rain pictures are lovely. The rain advancing across the lake... an amazing sight and sound!
As much as we need the rain, I hate that it keeps the kids indoors during the summer.
i long for rain
I'm always a shy not leaver. After your kind comment about my comic con pictures, I wanted to say thank you.
Then,,,,,,,,,,,rain, such wonderful stuff rain. I keep it in my memory.
What stunning shots! And congratulations on your seven years of blogging!
the last one is stunning.. and i love the view of the dock and bench
these are just awesome, hilary.
it's really hard to pick a fave.
and i linked to you today!
big hugs!
Rain, what's rain? ;) Gorgeous and enchanting photos ~ and love your sunny blog background.
How you do it! I feel the rain and hear the music and love where you are! Thank you for bringing us to where you are.
While we receive only 6 inches of rain in Arizona, today we are actually under a "flash flood alert", which is amusing. But what a timely visit! Have a nice weekend, Hilary!
Wow!!!
Your view of the lake as the rain approaches is wonderful. I like how the view slowly recedes and then appears again as the rain stops.
Oh, and ps....I like the new look!
Hi Smitten-happy blogiversary-I missed your last post. And this post, ahh, so lovely. That first photo...amazing. You are amazingg.
What a creative post! The rain sure inspired you.
Every photo is a piece of heaven but the last one just takes my breath away. Simply gorgeous.
Oh do we need the rain!
No rain for so long and drought conditions, plants and grass slowly wilting...not good.
You have such a perfect spot to watch the storms come and go.
Wow, Hilary, that was some rain. I love the way you photographed the progression, culminating in that beautiful sunset. Was this the same storm that produced the hail in your videos?
Looks like a fairy land! The sky, the colors, rainbow all so beautiful!
You live in a very beautiful part of the world! By the way, that lake I used to live next to? A pond compared to your lake!
