There is a harmony
In autumn, and a lustre in its sky,
Which through the summer is not heard or seen,
As if it could not be, as if it had not been!
- Percy Bysshe Shelley
The following photos are not all from the same day but they do represent one of the pre-snow autumn days up here. I hope you enjoy them.
The sun comes into view just above the horizon, across the bay. It looks like it's going to be a lovely day.
These frilly steps are growing on a less than healthy tree on the property.
Still, it has much colour, texture and beauty to offer.
A left turn at the end of the driveway takes us toward the public boat launch. This was taken along the way, sometime in October.
This little mushroom offers its cap as a resting place for some debris which fell with the season from the tree above it.
This canoe has seen better days. It's to our right near the end of the boat launch path.
Glancing across the bay, we find ourselves looking at beautiful Blueberry Island.
Autumn catkins catch my eye.
Dusk is falling on the lake - in shades of pink and mauve and blue. I can only imagine the view for those who face west.
Later in the night, the full moon offered a glimpse at a tree's bare branches. That was a treat but even more so, it delighted the eyes a bit earlier when it was just rising...
... and it did this.
Thanks for joining me on this (compilation of a) day. It's been a while since we've walked together. Let's not wait so long next time.

Wow, what a beautiful collection. I love your way of setting things out.
As always, I love our walks together. Every picture is a poem. Ah, I agree: let's not wait so long next time. :-)
You are obviously really enjoying your new surroundings! Are you snowed in yet? And how did you fare through the infamous ice storm?
ah, you take me back for just a bit...i love autmn...the structures of the fungi and moss is really cool...
Love the fungi photos and the last one of the moon with the trees in front.
It looks amazing....hope I get to see it.
Your perspective absolutely captures the day perfectly. :)
Nice pics Hilary.
Love the focus on catkins.
Gosh you are so good with your camera! Your pictures are outstanding – I don’t know which one I like the most. Your cat pictures are also beyond good – I have cats so I know how difficult it is to take a clear picture of them and my photos are not often even just “fair.” When I try to take their picture together, one cat is always moving. Have a great year with many opportunities for photos – and enjoy yourself!
That first shot really makes me long for autumn to be a year round season. It's so bitter cold here right now and will be colder tomorrow. Sure hope you are staying warm up north!
You sure do have some beautiful views at your new place!!
These WOW me!!
The lichens and the old tree make an interesting photo. Most people would ignore the poor old lichen as unworthy of attention. I like the lonely nail in the old tree.

i LOVED the moon nestled onto the tree tops. beautiful and safe! :)
nice to see your beautiful views.
I love the trees.. and all the images. Just stunning work. What a beautiful way to start my day.
Well,it does appear you have died and gone to heaven. Are there bears on blueberry hill?
I must say I've missed your posts. so glad you and Frank are settled in at the new place. love the pics of the fungi and the moon.
The colors in the 1st one are poetic
Always enjoy my walks with you - you point out things I might miss seeing otherwise. I love the catkins and the fungi. (The moon shots are very special.) Hope you're not freezing there. Very cold and snowing here.
Oh, glorious lichens! And the moon was very kind to pose so nicely.

You capture so much beauty through your lens. If I had to pick favorites from this grouping, they would be the first and the last. The first just has so much going for it, not the least of which is the pattern of light on the deck as it is filtered through the stair railing. And the moon in the last photo just looks as if it's sitting on a leafy pedestal.
You have an eye for details, contrasts, juxtapositions. Isn't nature captivating and calming at the same time? I know I never tire of it.
Thanks for letting me share your compilation walk. I feel like I've been outdoors.
This is a great set of photos. Makes me realize how much I miss by not paying attention.
Walking with you is a delight to the senses. The sights are amazing and I can almost smell autumn in the air,in these pictures.
You made my soul smile with these pics! I love the moon shot..so cool! That canoe may look sad, but the leaning tree doesn't look much happier! Thanks for the walk down Autumn memory lane.
Beautiful photos! Love the moon shots.
what beauty in your own backyard! we call those tree ears ....
Autumn is so lovely! Perhaps you could spend a day on the other side of the lake and see the view the opposite way.
fabulous images Hilary! You've not lost your touch with the camera!
I particularly like the diseased tree (character) and the sunset is just stunning.
You've beautiful views from your new place.
Excelentes fotografias....

As usual, photos of your surroundings make me yearn nostalgic for someplace I've never been. Quite a trick, that. Well done.
I love the tree's ruffled shirt

I am for anything pre-snow!
The sunrise photo is very calm and appealing. I think with that view, I wouldn't mind these new kittens and their early morning wrestling matches waking me up--if I had that to look forward to.
So many great ones, I don't know where to begin! The standouts for me are the Autumn catkins, Blueberry Island, and the glorious sunrise. Oh, and the lake at dusk. You live in a beautiful place! I hope you're not snowed in at the moment.
Just lovely moments. Thanks.
Are you all unpacked? Here our leaves are still on the trees...very unusual.
I'm sure likin' the lichens! And everything else as well, thanks for a lovely walk!

That is one super-duper moon! Since it's been awhile, I am assuming you are now in your new place. I will scroll through some earlier posts to catch up!
What a beautiful post. I am now wishing the summer was closer.
Wonderful series of shots. That first one is just stunning!
Lovely. I just love the golden sunlight in the top pic. I'm missing the sun these days. ;)

Oh, oh, ohhhh! You make even the things the rest of us don't see beautiful. And that moon…stunning. Wishing you a 2014 of health, happiness, cute critters, and of course more gorgeous photo ops.
If that were one day, I wonder you ever get anything done at all.
I’d just stand and stare.
Beautiful Fall photos, Hilary. I'm guessing you're covered in snow by now. Hope you're staying warm and enjoying your first winter in the new house.

Beautiful photos. It's good to look forward to spring, colours, warmth! Good choice for a post.
What a delightful day! I'd love to be living there, but that's not the way things turned out. So I have your lovely pictures instead.
Blessings and Bear hugs.
that moon shot is gasp-inducing. just gorgeous the way it's cradled by the trees.
Stunned as always sweet Hilary, you are such the talent. Inspired.
Loved the fungi and the lonely canoe and the autumn leaves the best!

Thanks for those lovely pics.
New Year, but luckily the quality hasn't changed, it's just got better. That opening photo should be on my mantelpiece. I worship autumn. Is it just me or the last picture of the full moon gives the impression that someone is holding it with both hands? You have a fantastic knack for photography. I really enjoy your pictures. Many thanks.
Greetings from London.
No matter what season you take us for walks, there is a sense of peace and gratitude. Thanks, Hilary.
That was a great walk. I didn't even get my heart rate up. Loved Blueberry Island. Oh yeah, I loved all the others also. BTW - I've never seen a Hilary shot I didn't like.

As always, thanks so much for sharing.

I've loved looking through your posts and seeing the wildlife that surrounds you through your eyes/lens. That final moon photo in this series is fantastic!
I'm still waiting for you to publish a book to keep out in my living room on the coffee table. :)
