Harmony in Autumn

There is a harmony
In autumn, and a lustre in its sky,
Which through the summer is not heard or seen,
As if it could not be, as if it had not been!
- Percy Bysshe Shelley

The following photos are not all from the same day but they do represent one of the pre-snow autumn days up here. I hope you enjoy them.

October sunrise
The sun comes into view just above the horizon, across the bay. It looks like it's going to be a lovely day.

frilly fungi
These frilly steps are growing on a less than healthy tree on the property.

frilly fungi2
Still, it has much colour, texture and beauty to offer.

morning walk trees
A left turn at the end of the driveway takes us toward the public boat launch. This was taken along the way, sometime in October.

mushroom debris
This little mushroom offers its cap as a resting place for some debris which fell with the season from the tree above it.

by the boat launch
This canoe has seen better days. It's to our right near the end of the boat launch path.

blueberry island from boat launch
Glancing across the bay, we find ourselves looking at beautiful Blueberry Island.

autumn catkin
Autumn catkins catch my eye.

october dusk
Dusk is falling on the lake - in shades of pink and mauve and blue. I can only imagine the view for those who face west.

branchy moon
Later in the night, the full moon offered a glimpse at a tree's bare branches. That was a treat but even more so, it delighted the eyes a bit earlier when it was just rising...

moonrise2
... and it did this.

Thanks for joining me on this (compilation of a) day. It's been a while since we've walked together. Let's not wait so long next time.

You are obviously really enjoying your new surroundings! Are you snowed in yet? And how did you fare through the infamous ice storm?

Love the fungi photos and the last one of the moon with the trees in front.

Nice pics Hilary.
Love the focus on catkins.

Gosh you are so good with your camera! Your pictures are outstanding – I don’t know which one I like the most. Your cat pictures are also beyond good – I have cats so I know how difficult it is to take a clear picture of them and my photos are not often even just “fair.” When I try to take their picture together, one cat is always moving. Have a great year with many opportunities for photos – and enjoy yourself!

That first shot really makes me long for autumn to be a year round season. It's so bitter cold here right now and will be colder tomorrow. Sure hope you are staying warm up north!

These WOW me!!

The lichens and the old tree make an interesting photo. Most people would ignore the poor old lichen as unworthy of attention. I like the lonely nail in the old tree.

Always enjoy my walks with you - you point out things I might miss seeing otherwise. I love the catkins and the fungi. (The moon shots are very special.) Hope you're not freezing there. Very cold and snowing here.

Oh, glorious lichens! And the moon was very kind to pose so nicely.

You capture so much beauty through your lens. If I had to pick favorites from this grouping, they would be the first and the last. The first just has so much going for it, not the least of which is the pattern of light on the deck as it is filtered through the stair railing. And the moon in the last photo just looks as if it's sitting on a leafy pedestal.

You have an eye for details, contrasts, juxtapositions. Isn't nature captivating and calming at the same time? I know I never tire of it.

Thanks for letting me share your compilation walk. I feel like I've been outdoors.

I am for anything pre-snow!

The sunrise photo is very calm and appealing. I think with that view, I wouldn't mind these new kittens and their early morning wrestling matches waking me up--if I had that to look forward to.

So many great ones, I don't know where to begin! The standouts for me are the Autumn catkins, Blueberry Island, and the glorious sunrise. Oh, and the lake at dusk. You live in a beautiful place! I hope you're not snowed in at the moment.

Just lovely moments. Thanks.

Are you all unpacked? Here our leaves are still on the trees...very unusual.

New Year, but luckily the quality hasn't changed, it's just got better. That opening photo should be on my mantelpiece. I worship autumn. Is it just me or the last picture of the full moon gives the impression that someone is holding it with both hands? You have a fantastic knack for photography. I really enjoy your pictures. Many thanks.

Greetings from London.
