There's a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they're absolutely free. Don't miss so many of them. ~ Jo Walton
Just in case you've missed them lately, I'm going to share a sunrise and sunset with you. They're not from the same day but what does that really matter?
I was tired. I hadn't slept well and though I was now wide awake, I wasn't energetic enough to head out for a walk. I decided to go downstairs and make some coffee to kickstart my day. Cats fed and coffee brewing, I went back upstairs to check on email. That's when I glanced out the window and saw an orange ball rising in the sky. Fine, I'll walk!
There are only a couple of spots along the path where you can catch a good look at the sunrise. This is one of them.
And this, of course is the other.
As the sun rose, it shared its beautiful light with everything it touched.
Every blossom appeared a bit warmer in its glow.
By the time the sun was high in the sky, I was grateful for the coffee which was waiting for me at home.
On another day, it was the amazing sunset that drew me out.
It peeked between the branches and it offered a lovely backdrop to the spring blossoms.
And it beckoned me to enjoy it from behind the fuzzy sumac tree.
From this angle.
And from that one.
I wonder how the sunset looked to the people up in that airplane.
And to the red-winged blackbird who was singing his heart out on this very beautiful evening.
Thanks for joining me at both ends of the day. I'll have more for you after a few more sunrises and sunsets have been around.
Know where to find the sunrise and sunset times and note how the sky looks at those times, at least once. ~ Marilyn Vos Savant

I love sunrises and sunsets. Tonight on the way home from work around 8:15, we were having the most amazing purple, pink, peach and blue sunset skies. I could hardly take my eyes off it....as I could hardly take my eyes off your pictures. Wonderful photos! Thanks for sharing!
I have never seen one that didn't "speak" to me. Your photographs are beautiful.
Sunsets and sunrises are really beautiful and always fill me with wonder.
You have captured them so well in your photos.

Nuts in May
My life has been to busy for sunrises and sunsets or I have been too tired. Maybe by the end of July I will be back to a normal person! These photos at least have slowed my breathing!
All of my life I have been a morning person so that makes me partial to sunrises. To me it's the best part of of the day and your have captured some of that magic in your photos.
there is such a cool soft light behind that sumac tree....really a lovely set of pics....i have been greeting the morning on the porch with my son the last couple days...
Beautiful pics. Sunrise is my favourite time of day.
All good. As usual, your macro eye (which is really micro) is spectacular. The flowers, especially, are marve.
Beautiful photographs, especially the first and second sumac trees. They are of award winning caliber!
gorgeous! the sun bokeh peeking from the limbs.... wow. just wow!
these are wonderful .. i havent posted it yet but i did capture a sunrise from my seat/window on the plane to Paris .. and then on the next to last night we spent there we were shooting the Eiffel Tower in all its nighttime splendor when my friend Mary pointed up at the sky, the clouds parted and there peeking out was an almost full moon ....
What Tex said...amen! Love them all.
Sunrise and sunset are awesome parts of the day. Most of us are too lazy to go out and enjoy them. You've given us a good look at both sunrise and sunset. Where I grew up you couldn't look through anything to see these. There were no trees to bar a clear view.
The sun has been an elusive and cherished object these days. I took some photos with beautiful evening light this week. And I was inspired by one of your dandelion photos and took some in some rare morning light recently. I'll have to post some of those.
Hilary, these are so beautiful. I love your sunset bokeh behind the sumac. I haven't had any dramatic sunrises or sunsets lately, so I appreciate you sharing yours!
Greeting the day and bidding it farewell are among my favorite things, and you've captured these magical moments so well in your photographs. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful!
Amazing shots.
totally golden moments!
Every sunrise or sunset is an individual miracle, so same day or not, it's worth the watching.
I love taking sunset pics...My pine trees are lovely but they totally block out a sunrise and I would need to take a big walk to find a good spot to shoot. Sometimes I'm tempted to pull over on my drive to work and click a pic but I'm usually running late! Yours are lovely but I truly think the plane and the sunset are amazing!
These are all fantastic- I really like the sunset through the sumac tree shots and the last one.
Such beautiful and serene pictures. Thank you for sharing! Gorgeous. :)
Sunrise, sunset..Swiftly flow the days. Beautiful, as always, Cuzzie.
I always think of sunrise and sunset as bookends to the day.
I love those kinds of mornings ... they welcome you warmly. Your spring images are beautiful. Our spring is long gone. All we have now is green and hot, humid temps.
aaahhh, thanks. i needed that.
Love the way you compose the shots, it is as if you enhance the beauty of the subjects in the shots.
Your photos are so positive, the way that they change, sunset and sunrise, cheers Hilary.
What fabulously dazzling shots! I hear you about not always wanting to go out early and take photos, but when the dawn beckons, there's no point in resisting.
Aren' sunrises and sunsets the most gorgeous. I wish I were more of a morning person ... such peach and quiet then, but alas, I'm a night gal, except like you when I can't sleep. On those occasions, I get to see a sunrise! Beautiful images!
Stunning photos Hilary.
I love the close-ups of the twigs with the blurred sunset behind. Just beautiful.
Hope you can sleep better tonight but your walks provided us with some lovely photos.
Stunning shots; great composition and lighting. We don't get sunsets here, a hill to the west cuts it off, but occasionally I'm up early enough to see the sunrise. Nice to discover another interesting Ontario blog.
all great shots of course but I love the ones of the sun and the sumac.
Beautiful pictures! The red-winged blackbird certainly has a great bird's eye view of the whole thing!
All my windows face east, so I don't see the sunsets. Sunrise has been so early and it has been raining so much that I haven't seen one for a long time. So--thank you for the beautiful pictures!!
Thanks for bringing us along. So much easier this way than having to get up early myself to catch a sunrise, or rushing outside with my supper only half eaten and left to grow cold while I gape at a sunset. But those fuzzy sumac pix with the blazing balls of magic behind them are just something else! Wonderful Hilary magic!
Hilary: I believe you had the better angle to view the sunset than the passengers aboard the airplane. All of your photos are striking and give me new ideas. But the first two are stunning! ;)
Lovely skies! I'm always drawn to skies tinted orange.
I very rarely flog my own blog here, Hilary, but as an artist with the lens (and a damn good one, as I've always said) I think you may appreciate the art on display at my blog today. Come on ever and see what you think.
This is a Top 10-er, IMO.
Beauteous, eh. :)
The photos of the sunset peaking through the sumac tree is a beautiful capture.
I like to think of loved ones passed when I see a gorgeous sunrise or sunset-- as if they are giving me a little nudge. It makes me smile.
Happy weekend, xo jj
Beautiful sunrise and sunset pics!
The two best times of the day - one full of promise, the other full of serenity. Such beautiful captures!
The sun goes up. My smile grows to a grin. The sun goes down again through trees and things, and my smile stays a very happy one. Thanks.
Interesting collection.
PS I especially liked your "cast of fishermen." Hee hee
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
Stunning photos. You're right, who cares if the sunrise and sunset are from different days? They're both beautiful. :-)
Greetings from London.
Wonderful images. The sunrise and sunset are gorgeous.
Wowza.
The sumac ones are my personal faves, but they are all quite lovely!

Oh, these are spectacular!
Wondrous, love the way you played with depth of field!
