Furry Friends & Posts of the Week

Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much the larger and better in every way. ~ John Muir

As seems to be the standard for me lately, the following photos are not current. Most date back to late early autumn. I hope you enjoy them.

oona
Beautiful Oona belongs to Frank's sister Lisa. She a Great Bernese Mountain Dog.

darwin
Thanksgiving activities proved to be too much for adorable Darwin who coped by snoozing on the laundry room floor.

chipper pom2
There aren't too many little creatures cuter than a chipmunk. This guy is one of the regular visitors to Frank's back yard. He usually helps himself to sunflower seeds and peanuts but on this day, we had a special treat for him - pomegranate seeds.

chipper and pom
Nom, nom, nom, pom.

chipper peanut face
That chipper isn't much bigger than the peanut.

peanut breath
In the park, this little guy scored a peanut for himself.

peanut breath scamper
It looks like he wasn't going to take any chances that I might want it back.

beaver bites
I wasn't lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the creature who recently felled this tree but there are a number of places along the creek which show signs of a thriving beaver population.

beaver bites2
It's been a while since this nearby log was an upright tree but it looks like a beaver was making a snack of its bark.

That's it for my creature feature. I'll have more photos for you in a few days.

And now, without further delay, here are the Posts of the Week. The icon below is yours for the taking if if your blog post is named as a POTW.

Hilary: These photos are as vivid, as ever. My camera is out of commission. So, I appreciated seeing this set. Congratulations to all of the POTW winners!

Your photos are stellar. Of course, the chipmunk steals the show. We recently saw an episode of America's Funniest Videos that showed a tiny little chipper stuffing a large peanut into one side of his mouth, another into the other side, and then clamping one in his teeth before scampering away. Too funny.

Thanks kindly for the POTW mention. :)

On a trail last summer I rode up on a beaver and he seemed used to the bikes. Thanks for the POTW!!

messymimi said...

We have no chipmunks down here, just the squirrels -- i'm not sure which would be considered cuter or more fun to watch, but i love the novelty of seeing chipmunks in your pics.

DJan said...

I love pomegranates but I would have shared with that cute little guy! :-)

Love the squirrel shot! My in-laws had 2 Bernese mountain dogs. They were the best dogs. They were named Calvin & Hobbs!

I wish we had the chipmunks here. Yours are precious. Boy, the beavers are destructive little devils. Yikes. Congrats to the POTW winners. Some are my friends!

Red said...

Now the dogs pose for you and make it easy but you have to work on the squirrel. The chipmunk partly poses but doesn't sit still. Great fall photos.
there's some really good pickin's from posts of the week. Thanks for doing some searching for this guy.

love your sweet critter photos Hilary... I'm looking forward to our neighborhood beavers and watching them play in their pond near our house. I feel so blessed to live where I do! Wishing you a wonder-filled day:-)

I've strayed far away from the blog world and now that I'm back I realize just how much I've missed my friends and their many talents. You and your photography are right there at the top.

Hilary,

Thank you for the honor of selecting one of my posts as a POTW.

All those photos are lovely, as always. The one of Oona is probably my favorite. She is a beautiful dog!

Roban said...

I enjoyed your critter pictures! I love little chipmunks.... With our two dogs standing guard, I don't see too many of them around here though. Thanks, too, for sharing my post about Roy B as one of your reader's choices. Roy B still has some problems, but he's been thriving at my in-law's.

lime said...

oona is such a pretty girl. and those chipmunks are just too adorable.

Dan said...

A grand selection of POTW, each unique and deserving.

Now your photo's are something else. Chippy's are special. The beaver's activity is amazing. Yes, they're destruction in many peoples eyes. I think they're glorious creatures.

I nominate you for POTW!

Bimbimbie said...

Haha*!* chipmunk in photo number three makes me smile as does the quote, so true.

The Darwin shot is ADORABLE!!

My goodness - so many good blog posts of the week to read! I'll be busy tonight!

I'm always amazed that any creature can gnaw through a tree like that. Especially one as (relatively) small as a beaver. One would expect a lion with its huge jaws to make that kind of a "dent" in a tree.

Chipmunks are really cute - except when they eat my flowers. LOL! The grands love to watch them nibble on acorns. Can't wait to get back into a house once again!

Love the Bernese mountain dog - our neighbour had two of them. Were they every big!!! Friendly, though.

SandyCarlson said...

Hilary,
The beaver work in that last photo seems to be a beaver portrait. I enjoyed all of your photos.

Thanks for mentioning my photo in your post of the week. I'm honored.

These photographs are wonderful, Hilary!
I especially love that little chipmunk. What a cutie!
Thanks so much for sharing these links.
Have a fantastic weekend!

The photos are so beautiful, it is a pleasure to see them and it is fun to see pictures without snow in them. After seeing snow for awhile now here, I like to see things that don't showcase the white stuff. Chipmunks are a personal favorite, so the pics of the little dear made me smile.

Love the chipmunk pictures!
Twice this week I've had suicidal squirrels run out in front of my truck. Fortunately for the squirrels, I managed to stop and allow them to decide where to go!

Reena said...

Love all the critters and awesome shot of the chippie!

Kocham psy i sama mam. Pozdrawiam.
I love dogs and I have the same. I love squirrels for their cleverness and thank you for the beautiful pictures. Beavers do damage, but alive. Very interesting and nice pictures. Thank you that you visited me and willing to stay with you permanently, or if you will be my constant visitor. Yours.

Love them all but sweet doggie in the first one is my fav!

Ahhhh, now I really do feel I've come home! I've missed my visits in here, dearest Hilary, and won't be so lax as to pass up on them anymore. Those Chipmunk captures are simply exquisite, well worthy of a prize in their own right. I need to settle in a little more again before exploring your tempting recommendations - but I will.
