Seeing Things and A Few Posts of the Week

I tend to see things. Sometimes others see them too. Often, it's only when I point them out. Sometimes they never do. Below are a couple of characters that I saw in unlikely places. Can you see them too?

crone hag witch
In the base of this tree, I immediately saw the face of an old hag, complete with hat, long nose and warty chin.

hag face
Can you see her green face now? What I'm seeing is her profile, facing right. She has a hollow, haunting eye, wart-ridden face, a long chin, nose and nostril and a shelf-like hat.

The other day, I inadvertently knocked the sugar bowl over onto the table. I grabbed a plate and began sweeping the white grains onto it when I stopped suddenly. There before my eyes was the Fruit Loops character, Toucan Sam or perhaps it was a Common Kingfisher.

toucan sugar
It took my son a while to see it but his girlfriend and I were both snapping photos of the spilled sugar.

And now, without further delay, here are the
Posts of the Week. The icon below is yours for the taking if if your blog post is named as a POTW.

Your old hag looked to me like a cartoon frog or a snobbish camel...

Without the third dimension to distract me, I see that sugar as a peaceful mama bird sitting on a nest, angling her tail to one side.

Unknown said...

I see both as you do Hilary; you've always had a wonderful, creative eye.

I see the hag. took me a minute though and you had to tell me which way she was facing. But when I first saw the sugar, before I read what you wrote, I saw a rabbit. An upside down rabbit.

Dianne said...

I didn't see either right away but upon closer inspection I did
I love the way you think

congrats to all the POTWs

i like the sugar toucan!

and thanks for the great picks, again!

I do see some of the images, but my experience with childhhood cereals was limited to raisen brand and corn flakes. Truthfully I look for unusual variations but not identifiable as other things. In fact there is a 100+ year old tall stump I noticed yesterday has lichen or mushroom like growths I need to take a shot of. I loved this old tree and was why we bought the property, but and ice storm and its age necessitated elimination to protect the abode.

So much for my imagination as I cannot see the little old lady. But I do see things like this in trees many times! Thank you for the POTW and all the good reading links.

I saw the toucan immediately but had to really work to see the crone ..

That sugar shot is great,it gave me a good giggle. Yyou have made me more aware of looking deeper at what I am seeing, and I often think of you when I see a pic within a pic.

Liz Mays said...

It took me a minute on that spilled sugar too, but oh my gosh! That's awesome!

Bob Bushell said...

It was a Kingfisher, I am certain, and not lump of the sweetstuff.

Cheryl Kohan said...

I DO see the old hag...spotted her right away. And after you pointed out the Toucan Sam and the kingfisher, I could see them, too. BUT the first thing I saw in the spilled sugar was a chubby rabbit with long skinny ears - ha!

Thank you, Hilary, for the POTW mention, too. It's such an honor, coming from you.

Few are gifted of this ability to "see" things and I love the world from your viewpoint, Hilary :-)

Hilary, you are just too clever. Good eye. That Hag sure has a pointy chin and nose. Love her warts.
The sugar toucan is quite amazing. So glad you captured it.
Now I'm off to read your suggested posts.

Thanks again for choosing my blog for POTW.

I am thinking whoever spoiled the sugar will be asked to do such again. Strange how things like that happen.

Off to read some POTW...

Should i say it? A sweet sugar shape? There, i did, sorry.;)

Rosaria Williams said...

You do have an eagle eye!

Love that sugar shape - looks like a pelican.

I am humbled that you chose my post for POTW. Thank you.

I couldn't see the hag until the close up, but I could see the bird right away. Reminded me of how we used to lie on our backs and find things in the ever-changing clouds on a summer afternoon when we were kids. Fun! You have, obviously, not gotten out of practice. ;)

Pearl said...

I feel the same way about clouds, which sometimes causes me to run into lampposts...

Well, I don't see the hag even if you described what you had seen but I love the bird! Just imagine, one careless move of your hand and there would have been no picture... :-)

Gillian Olson said...

I often see faces in the trees, I like this one you found.
Thanks for the post of the week award, I am honoured.

yaya said...

I saw the hag at once! I called it a witch and frankly it should be on one of my trees in my "Creepy Woods"! The sugar bird....all I can say is "Sweet!"

Maggie May said...

I definitely saw the kingfisher!

These are great, and that's a great bird in the spilled sugar.

Reena said...

You're right! It's Toucan Sam!

Tammie Lee said...

i do see the shelf like hat, but not the rest, some people, like you are so good at finding these things!

Kerry said...

Took me a sec with the first one, but the 2nd one got me immediately. (Love the way the spoon fell to create the mouth and eye!)

Barb said...

I'm seeing things, too - I think there is a name for that! PS I love the Benny photos in your last post.

Kappa no He said...

I saw the hag. In the sugar I saw a bunny! And, wait, did someone say Benny photos? Going to read last post now.

Kerri Farley said...

Oh I can see them!! That is so awesome!

CiCi said...

I saw a warrior in profile above the hag on the opposite side of the tree. A warrior with helmet. Small. On the right at top. Do you see it?

After you described the hag, I could see it. Sounds like you and your son's girlfriend enjoy a similar imaginative eye.

Indrani said...

Old trees do have unique features on them. I have got a couple of such shots.
The sugar one is too good.
