A bud about to emerge was sitting in a fine ray of sunlight. A water droplet from an earlier rainfall clings to it. If you look closely, you can see a tiny starburst shining from the water, making it a golden drop of sun.
This beautiful old tangle of roots sure look golden in the late-day sunshine.
It's nesting season, and this little cutie had a mouthful of golden bark in her mouth ready to augment her home. Squirrels sure can do a lot of damage to trees stripping them this way.
Before my younger son grew his hair long, he sported a spiky do for a while. This kind of reminds me of those days.
A rather large hole at the base of this tree. Do you suppose something lives in there?
I know it's not this guy. This is Jake, the golden lab and he lives on my street. He's as golden of heart as the name of the breed suggests.
A close up view of a broken branch. It appears to be oozing some sort of golden sap or something. Whatever it is, it caught my eye.
Last year's seeds were still clinging to this twig. They reminded me of golden wings.
I'll have more photos for you in a few days. Thanks always for stopping by.

ha love the squirrel with the mouth full...too cute...that trunk too is pretty cool to look at
Lovely photos, love the warmth of the lighting.
I just love squirrels and labs :)
Beautiful golden moments captured in time!
Happy Easter to you and yours,
Merisi
You have such a lovely view of the world as you find the beauty in everything.
Jake reminds me of my Jake, 'cept of course, our jake has a bit more fur about his ears. The glistening dew-drop is precious, what a wonderful capture. The huddle of roots up there reminds me of a sun-bleached carcass. Ahh Hilary, as I am always saying, you have such an eye for spotting the extraordinary in the ordinary that most of us miss.
I actually popped by to plunder your Post of the Week selections..
I love the golden light of spring.
Solid gold, I have fun catching the colors different light offers
I would have missed the little star burst if you hadn't called attention to it. Very nice. I liked the spiky thing and the clinging seeds, too.
A golden theme that extends widely . Well done. As always some neat ideas for photos. Now you question ,"Does something live in there?" Yes! Micro life. species upon species.ll you need is a high powered microsopic lens and you will see nothing but color.
love sweet jake. but the squirrel takes the prize today. :)
It has been a different spring everywhere! I love those seeds still hanging on.
Have a Happy Easter, Hilary.
Good stuff. I don't think the trees mind donating some bark and leaves for the squirrel's nest construction. They're repaid when the critters distribute the tree's seed and help ensure future generations. It's win-win. :)
You are the photographer I want to be when I grow up. Seriously, your pictures just take my breath away....
I imagine the squirrels actually help the trees by removing old bark and making it possible for birds to get at pesky insects, but I was a poor science student at school.
Your photos are gorgeous! Thank you
Your photos are gorgeous! Thank you
beautiful images Hilary. so hard to pick a favorite.
Lovely photos! You really have a gift. :)
Thanks for sharing these images of gold. Beauty can be seen in the most common things.
The bark in the mouth makes the squirrel appear to be smiling :-)
so pretty
A gold star post!
The picture of the squirrel with the mouth full of bark is one of the best photos I have ever seen. I watch the squirrels here and have not seen them actually work on their nests. I have come across nests of brand new ground squirrels and that was a thrill. Duh, should have thought to get pictures of that.
You're a lovely photographer, who shoots everything, I mean everything. Thanks Hilary.
Beautiful golden moments, every one of them.
so many great shots, but the shot of Jake is so like my Deaky Boy, that I can't help but be in love.
from the first until the last, amazing, amazing
That squirrel is TOO cute!
Now I have that song in my head!! ;o)
What a great capture - the squirrel with nesting material in its mouth.
And wow - the spikey thing - that's cool.
And oh yes - my favorite reminder of childhood "twirly copters!!"
Great shots of the golden sun!!
I especially love your first photo of the bud with its sun star twinkle! Thanks for sharing such gorgeous golden moments...
I like the squirrel picture
Those last leaves remind me of tiny spun-gold hearts. I like your golden spring light in the photos.
I love how that burr's spikes reminded you of your son! Ah, a mother's heart...
HOW do you do it ... and DO it... and DO it???!!!

Awesome collection, the dangling seeds at the end is right up mu alley, beautifully done! We are experiencing the same weather conditions. It was warmer at the end of March and now it is cooling to more normal temperatures. I was trying to get an early start on the garden...oh well.
Good gracious, good golden.
Always such a treat, and golden.
simply exquisite!!
i'm in awe of your photography!!
thanks for brightening my day, dear hilary.
happy weekend!
...and jake is so sweet!
Everytime I visit here, I am reminded of the fact that I have not bought a new camera yet. When the busy-ness of spring break is over, I MUST get to a shop to shop!
I LOVE how you capture so much detail. It's so alive and mesmerizing. (I'm sure I've told you this before.)
Give Jake a hug for me. :)
Love your golden moments.
Great capture of the nesting squirrel! I know they can be pesky, but I just love them. :)
My laptop just made the rounds so everyone could see that squirrel shot!
So much beauty in the everyday things! I love the squirrel shot. Unfortunately, they do a ton of damage to many things besides trees. But they do come in cute packages don't they?
These are unusual but interesting photos Hilary. "Golden" is your theme... - Dave
I like these excellent shots, especially the close up of the spike :)
No one captures water droplets the way you do
so perfect
Jake is a sweetie
I did see the starburst in the first photo...very cool! I've seen many a squirrel scampering up a tree but never with anything in their mouths! That is a priceless shot, Hilary.
So many beautiful images and each has its own special magic. You bring life to everything you capture and I don't think it can get much better than that.
Have yourself a great weekend, mon amie.
Happy Easter!
to You and your family!
Enjoyed this post and the one from Wednesday, too. I especially liked your post from last Sunday - April 1.
Light is everything and you always do such a nice job of capturing it.
Take care.
all are wonderful but i especially love the close up texture of that spiky plant.
a belated thank you for the post of the week nod and wishing you and your family a blessed passover.
big happy sigh
Oh, that first photograph with the liquid gold! Exquisite!
