Drive-by Shooting

It's been a while since I posted a series of drive-by shooting - images snapped through the window from the passenger seat of the car. I guess it's time to remedy that right now.

rolling hills
Lovely rolling hills and a glimpse of a barn and silo made for a quick decision to snap a shot.

2cute car
I spotted this powder blue car for sale after we turned a corner, on our drive through a small town on our way to the cottage. Note the license plate "2CUTE4U."

driveby barnAnother barn at a farm, as captured through the car's windshield.

laying sod
Workers were busy laying sod in hopes of having a grassy green hill alongside the highway later this summer.

old barn
Another charming, old red barn and silo.

rollin
This guy is busy transporting round bales of hay.

peking over
I caught this group peering over the railing to take a look at the water below, and probably at the folks fishing it.

red barn
Another pretty sight which caught my eye. A couple of red, barn-like sheds or bunkies on a pretty treed lot with lovely wildflowers.

That's it for now. I'll have more photos for you in a few days.

Nice, I love the first barn and silo photo with the farm foreground.

LOVED that first shot! whew! needs to be in a frame on my wall! so much 'promise' in that one!

Barns are my favorite! I just love them! Lots of beautiful pictures today from your drive by shootings!

Great shots Hilary. I particularly like the first with the barn barely visible behind the rolling green hills.

I'm inspired by the shots you got in the shotgun seat ~ I rarely do this but want to have my camera ready now that I've seen such great possibility, but I have to remember it's always who is behind the camera that creates the great shots. My two favorites are the first one and the people all in hats on the bridge :))

That sod sure didn't look too promising. :)

Thanks for the ride and the sights. My favourite is the first shot. I'm a sucker for endless skies and vast fields with a lone building or tree sticking up in the middle. Maybe because I grew up in an area bordered by mountains and sea.

some really cool shots...nice perspective on the men working the hill...and that powder blue car is really cool...

Simply superb, drive-by-shooting is a great idea. The blue car has to be the winner.

You are right on target with your victims!!

Love the rural theme however it is captured. The old car is very fitting too; rural life is often a throw back to yesteryear.

I'd like to try that drive-by shooting some time, except I'm always the one driving. I loved that top one with the top of the barn and silo and of course the 2cute4u car, but I am a man.

Love these pics! I also love taking photos out of the car, so much fun!

I understand these completely. Except that I am most often the driver, and I still want to take photos!

Drive by shooting are always a treat. I especially love your last photograph, something about red barns that appeals to me :-)

You know me...I like doing that too. From any window.

You oh so casually post these wonderful pictures for your readers to devour. Drive by indeed. If I could find something like them here I would post them. There are hundreds of barns and silos and a guy in our town who lives on the edge of town brings the rolls of hay down our street one roll at a time on his tractor. Very nice photos, so peaceful and I can relate to all of these.

Just love seeing your area of the world. The barn shots are my favorite.

Drive-by shooting is tricky, but you seem to have mastered the trick. That first one with the green field and the barn and silo beyond is very pretty. And I love that you snapped a picture of that car. I'm glad you pointed out the license plate. I would have missed that.

I love these! I have some of my own I need to post. Not as good as yours, though!

When I was growing up we had a nearby barn with the hand painted sign "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" in large yellow letters. Your barn photo brought back that memory.

Dear Hilary, excellent snapshots of moments in time... They all have their own story to tell, if we only use our imagination.;)
The red barn could fit with ease in Sweden which is renowned for its red and white cottages.;))
Have a great Monday dear friend,
xoxo

Any time I see a barn and silo, I feel almost as thought they were calling to me. I think I should have been a farmer (or maybe I was a cow in a previous life and I'm just longing for home.)

Great shots! I love the last one the best. Those little sheds are so cute and I need one in my yard! I also love the blue car...it's not too cute 4 me!

How come all I get when I shoot from a car window is blurred scenery, or a dirty wind bug-spattered windshield? Yours are beautiful! Thanks for taking us on a road trip.

Friko said...

splendidly caught. You either very quick or the driver is very slow.

Linda said...

Beautiful shots, especially from a moving car. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful! You've given me a great idea, too. I am going to have to try and remember to take pictures as I drive away from my current town to my new one - a great way to create a memory book of the move!

DO I ever love that 1st capture! It takes me away....to somewhere lovely:)
All your drive-by's are lovely....and the one on the bridge is priceless:D

Frank Baron said...

So THAT'S what I'm missing when I'm keeping my eyes on the road! ;)

Hilary said...

Thanks so much for the kind comments, everyone.

Yes, it's always best for the driver to keep his/her eyes on the road and let the passenger do the snapping. If you're driving alone, and can't stop, just be happy with the mental snapshot.

The only trick to getting a not too blurry shot, is to photograph subjects at a distance (a nearby barn doesn't work too well) and to set your shutter speed to at least 250, so you need a reasonably bright day or fast lens.

If you're using a point and shoot, try putting it on the action/sports setting.

Thanks again for the kind words, all.

How I've missed these, and you, this summer. I won't be back on track 'til next week, but I'm trying to catch up a bit this week if that's at all possible. Not really, but you know what I mean.

And, after a long absence, my selection for you is Country Comfort, an Elton John tune, but the Clancy Brothers did a wonderful cover of it on the sadly out of print Save The Land. I have a vinyl transfer cd, fortunately. I'll try and get that to you.

Hope all's well and looking forward to more regular visits again.

Love your drive-bys Hilary.
I really love barns but most of the time I can't get a decent photo of them.
Sorry I haven't been by for a while. It seems my brain has needed a vacation and the blogging suffered because of that.
Hope all gets back in gear soon. Sometimes LIFE hangs heavy on my mind.

I really love the rolling hills :)

I'd love to drive that powder blue baby to my farm on the hill and watch that hay being baled. What a beautiful world!

• Thanks very much, Kerri. :)

• Rob, thank you. I'm glad you like it. :)

• Maggie May, they were probably watching folks fishing in the water below. Thanks always for stopping by. :)

• Cricket, I've missed you too, my friend.. in the comments, at your blog and in email but I sure do understand how busy your summers are. I did receive your email but haven't had a chance to listen to the song yet. I'll write back when I do. Thank you. :)

• Sue, thank you. I totally understand you needing a blog break every now and then. No worries there. I hope all is well with you and yours. Thanks for the visit. :)

• Thanks, Di. :)

• Sandy, isn't that a fun car? It's so YOU! Thanks for stopping by. :)
