Benny on a Road Trip and Post of the Week

Benny loves going to the cottage. Let me amend that to "Benny loves BEING at the cottage." The trip to and from are another story.

Despite how the pictures below appear, he really doesn't mind being in his crate. He gets inside of it quite readily and is happy just to know that wherever we're headed, he's going with us. It's the long drive which gets him antsy. He's fine when we're zooming along the highway - he'll sleep most of the way, but as soon as he senses that we're getting closer to making a few stops (to get worms, to buy groceries and to acquire our usual goodies from the liquor store), he starts getting restless. He has a full repertoire of sounds which range from soft whimpers, vocal pants and bird-like chirps which change in range before your very ears, from very high-pitched to deep low growly sounds. It's quite the symphony of canine sounds.

Of course, while he's entertaining us with his vocal prowess, he's not just sitting or lying still. He's often facing forward, imploring us with his eyes, to understand that he can not wait a moment longer and must be at the cottage right now lest he implode.

One day, I'll record Benny's symphony of sounds but for now, the following three photos will give you an idea of his sense of urgency.

benny save me
Are we just about there yet?

Benny save me 2
Please! Can't somebody help me?

Benny save me 4
For the love of dog, please stop this car.

And now, without further delay, here are the Posts of the Week. The icon below is yours for the taking if if your blog post is named as a POTW.

I just had the worst weekend with my cat. No kids at home so took her to the lake. Miserable. When she wasn't lost and found way down the road or nixing the litter box, she was whining and crying. Guess an overload of food and water placed in the backyard and all her friends - the possum, squirrels, and the resident skunk -- keep her happier than being with my husband and me. Works for me.

Will check in on your POTW later this week. Still recovering from the weekend.

Congrats POTW!!!

I can almost hear him in those photos! (Oh, wait, that's the Princess doing the vocalizing - she does the exact same thing!)
Adorable pictures!

It's amazing how animals are able to express themselves in different ways.

Here's another dog who happens to have a knack for self-expression.

Whine, Whimper and Song ~ Benny's hymn as he clasps his paws in prayer. :) His prayers are answered when the cottage is reached. Beseeching Benny's photos' are most endearing.

Congrats to POTW - and thanks for sharing them with us.

Hilary, Who would have guessed the vocal range of such a cute little dog. How hard must it be to resist his pleas ;-)

Pets can be nearly human sometimes. Imagine a child in the car getting restless. Our cat Alfie always meows to thank us for opening a door for him to come in or go out. He talks in other ways too - Dave

Poor Benny! Not the type of dog to be cooped up for long. I expect he more than made up for it when he eventually got out..... racing around!

I like the sounds he makes. I put a bed between my seats, but my dog wants to be on my lap.Eventually she finds her bed.

Benny is such a drama queen, isn't he? You can tell he's quite happy but he sure knows how to strike a pose.

We used to travel with our cat cross country in our van and she was affectionate, patient, and content... until it got towards evening and she judged it was time to stop. She'd start pacing howling nonstop if we took too long to find a campground. We may have technically taken the wheel, but she was often the real "driver."

And hey, thanks so much for the link!!

I just love Benny. He's my favorite dog in the world, and he would be my friend in a jiffy, if we ever met in real life. Glad he gets to go with you, even if he does have to suffer a bit!

A gob-smacking surprise for me, Hilary. Thank you, thank you so much.
This morning I thought I was on the way out; such pain...think it was a twisted costal cartilage...so did not log on till, well, now.

Benny is a star.

Lisa said...

What a sweetie and so cute. The photos are adorable Hilary.
Thanks for stopping and your kind words.
Have a lovely week xo

Gail Dixon said...

Your Benny is adorable!! What cute poses. I am a big believer in crates. They offer much comfort for our furry friends. Ours used to go in the crate like it was their den, their quiet place.

Congrats to the POTW-ers! Looks like some interesting ones....hope to get by later this evening.

Our Simon is pretty much the same way...the high speed lull will keep him sleeping but the minute we get off the highway and start making turns and stopping at lights....the ants-in-the-pants begins!

I use to be able to drive forever without getting restless, but that is no longer the case. Now, after about six hours, I resemble Benny.

Thanks very much for the POTW mention.

I lost power for 2 1/2 days from the storm...have it back now...but internet at my home is down so I'm online sporadically as I can find wireless...will come back later to read rest of the POTW's.

Wow, he's a cutie! We had a dog that loved to travel and was such a good traveler and guest! Much better than boarding him...he really let us know how unhappy he was the only time we did it!

He's adorable, and I can feel his sense of urgency. I've felt that myself...are we ever going to get there. Those last miles are the longest.

Barb said...

Oh, Benny - who can resist you? That face, those eyes, that little sausage body. Hopefully, you got lots of treats for your trouble.
